The last I remembered, the Wanderer's Palace and Amdapor Keep were the only things that kind of made you farm for mythology and those still had vague values to earn you weekly. 300 per week.

I am pretty sure 3.0 was slightly better comparing to 2.0, but I'll say that crafting is the only thing that was painful for lvl 60 in 3.0 comparing to crafting in 2.0.

Comparisons to 2.0 are a little bit slanted considering how much content was essentially copypasted from 1.0.

Oh yeah. 5 ores for 1 mat is nuts.

A handful of instanced dungeons and three primals, one of whom wouldn't be added until 2.1 or 2.2? There wasn't that much to do in 1.0 either.

I think the comparison to 2.0 makes HW feel flimsy because there was "more" to do. Hitting the cap at 50 presented you a relic quest, two different tomes to grind (because you sort of needed Darklight in order to effectively do primals and dungeons) and a heap of stuff to do all in order. 3.0 gave it to you piecemeal with Esoterics not being added until Alexander was, and there being no succession between content: You had one thing to grind on until a patch added more.

Well just throwing this out there, but I am actually pretty active in a number of mmos, though none as much as FFXIV. That said the issue isn't that FFXIV is the perfect mmo, but looking around it is one of the best. Whether or not its perfect or even good is irreverent if the competition is worse. I think its this quality that makes the devs feel as though they are doing "good enough" and lets them get lazy. What are we as a community going to do about it? ESO, WoW? They know we have few options in the market. The only thing I think that can get things in this game rolling again is if one of the new MMOs coming this year hits it big. Such competition would cause SE to funnel new resources to FFXIV.

As long as they are the sweetest smelling turd on the shit pile, they will not listen and will not change.

P.S. I love this freaking game, most likely due to being a FF nut for life. This amusement park of fan service was made for people like me.

That's precisely how I see it. FFXIV is the only computer game I'm playing at all right now, and for that reason - for whatever its flaws (and yes, I talk about those enough) I consider it the best option for the genre right now, after having burned through so many MMOs in the last ten years.

I fully concur with the competition thing. I take SWTOR as a comparison - they started hinting at and promising housing and guild ships within a few months after release, and 2 years after release... nothing. Then, right as Wildstar goes live and GW2 is draining their player base, gosh, they suddenly had the resources offer BOTH housing AND Guild Ships, timed PERFECTLY to fight the player drain, in a game that was apparently putting 90% of its dev time into PVP-only starfighter combat and cash market items. Perhaps it was coincidence, but the timing was just too convenient to dismiss completely as such.

The market loks to be in quite a lull for MMO development; the latest generation of greatly hyped ones (ArcheAge, Wildstar, Defiance, etc.) tanked fast and hard, which was a double-whammy on the industry after seeing how SWTOR's $5 Mil in development didn't seem to give it what it needed for the long haul. The ones that people had been watching have turned nearly into vaporware (Star Citizen JUST NOW putting out an actual sort-of Alpha, and Everquest Next going radio silent). Though we still have a few curious and upcoming releases (Blade & Soul, Black Desert, etc), these seem comparatively conservative in gameplay features. The market's not in a risk taking mood, and those projects which are trying for innovation are wracked with funding, personnel and technical issues. What that means is that ain't much o' nobody wants to risk money on MMOs, especially when the market seems willing to dump major money into mobile games and the Candy Crush wannabes.

For FFX14 itself, my personal curiosity is the effect that the FF7 remake and FF15 will have on its maintenance. If the new titles take off (and hype looks really promising for SE in these), maybe some of the money will be diverted to maintaining 14 as at least a cross-promotional tool (motorcycle mount, Cindy outfits, trying to help the FF15 Boy Band get out of Eorzea, etc) worth maintaining. Finally, there is and remains the issue of the target market - who's SE going to want to please in 2016?

And so, we play, hope, and wait... at least, until something better comes along to take us away. There just isn't a LOT of "better" on the immediate horizon.

Also Square Enix is making a /shitload/ of money from their mobile division.

Games like All the Bravest and Record Keeper make incredible profits with low costs. I think they're questioning whether it is worth it to pour more money in FFXIV when the returns aren't that great comparatively.

RE: Patch 3.2 News and Previews - Estimated Drop Date Feb 2016 - Kellach Woods - 01-02-2016

MMOs as they were will go the way of the dodo. The technological marvel that is everyone playing at the same time just isn't the same as, say, 15 years ago, and paying for the privilege is starting to grate on people's nerves enough that they expect much more than a simple connection to a server with peoples.

My personal gripe has more to do with their implementation of shit than their general design.

Anyway I hope the Diadem revamps are what it was cracked up to be in the first place. I get a Hunt vibe from that place. As in, the first implementation was so bad people were complaining incessantly about it, and that forced them to declare oopsie and try to salvage something livable out of it.

MAYBE THEY'LL DO THE SAME FOR THE 4 SPECIALIZATIONS THAT AREN'T NECESSARY FOR RELIC?!?!?!?!?

(Also, we should be reminded that SE is also maintaining Dragon Quest X as far as MMOs are concerned.)

Every specialization is necessary for the relic.

Four of them produce materials, four use those materials to produce the items. And honestly the former got the better deal out of it.

I was mistaken because it's not immediately apparent which is specialist and which isn't if it's in a discipline you specialize in.

AKA GSM/LTW specialists gonna price gouge me.

New Kirimu Coat, Boarskin Skirt and Boots of Divine Light.... NOT CLASS RESTRICTED!
Zhexos Wrote:Greetings,

Looks like design and character teams were secretly working on adding gear that players wanted to use for glamour.
Takeo_Suzuki Wrote:Takeo Suzuki here, the lead designer of FFXIV.

Over the years, we've received requests from players regarding specific pieces of gear they would like to use for glamour while on other classes and jobs.

Here we see the skirt portion separated from the Boarskin Skirt. We separated skirt from the base design so players can coordinate this with many other outfits.

We've heard players liked the boots from Boots of the Divine Light and wanted to coordinate with outfits from other classes and jobs, so we made this possible.

The same goes for the Kirimu Coat. We've heard players liked this design and wanted to coordinate with more outfits from other classes and jobs, so we made this possible as well.

I'm pleased to let you know that we're going to add crafting recipes for these pieces in Patch 3.2! Please look forward to it!
And, while we're on the subject of cosplay, I know many players would like to see additional emotes they can use while taking amazing screenshots in their outfits, so recently, I discussed new emotes with the Motion team and they let slip that there just may be something in Patch 3.2! I wonder what kind of emotes they'll be....

HILDIBRAND RETURNS!

Mogwands and other 1.0 1-Handed Wands are coming out!

As mentioned previously, such as in PLL 24 and in this RPC thread, they are making 2-handed versions of these old assets. News is out that after their introduction, 1-handed versions will no longer be dropped in the content they were once rewards.

Zhexos Wrote:Thank you for the continued feedback regarding the ability to glamour one-handed conjurer and thaumaturge's weapons over two-handed ones. As we've mentioned in the past, the dev. team continues to look into this.

Before that, however, I wanted to let you all know that we're planning to introduce two-handed versions of popular conjurer and thaumaturge's weapons for content which currently reward one-handed versions. Their new designs will be based on their one-handed versions.

Please note that when this is introduced the one-handed versions will no longer appear as a reward from the actual content; however, players will be able to exchange their weapons for the opposite version.

The dev. team is currently working on this and aiming for release in Patch 3.2. After you give these new two-handed versions a swing, let us know how you feel about them!

It will be possible to queue for Duty Roulette as a party for the following roulettes:
Duty Roulette: Expert
Duty Roulette: Level 60 Dungeons
Duty Roulette: Level 50 Dungeons
Duty Roulette: Leveling
Duty Roulette: Trials
Duty Roulette: Main Scenario
Duty Roulette: Guildhest

And more! Any more 3.2 news (Dungeon Previews etc) will be posted when updated!!
