    "I'm not sure. I think that we're a sum of all the events in our life. If I changed something from my past, I'd be changing who I am now."

    "When my brother handed me this necklace before I left."

2.Where and when were you born?


 In a small Hamlet in Gyr Abania, just west of Ala Mhigo, on the 19th Sun of the 5th Astral Moon, 1553.   Going to turn 24 in a few moons.
 
3.Who are/were your parents?


My Ma', *pauses with a reflective smile* Bronwyn, she's a weaver and cook; has been for as long as I can remember.  She's got a beautiful voice s'well, sang songs to me in a tongue I didn't understand when I was young, still does occasionally when I see her. Fair skinned with dark hair, and eyes that always know what I'm feeling, whether I say it or not.  She's a midlander from Gridania, but she fell in love with a highlander, my father Dannic, when she was very young.  My father... *trails off, and turns his gaze to the window* My father died when I was about 3 or so, on account o' what happened at Ala Mhigo.  I still remember him, his greying hair, his smile... He.. He was a good man.  That's what my 'Ma and my Da' say, and that's how I remember him.  What's that?  Oh, my Da'!  *looks back and chuckles to himself*  That must've confused 'ye a bit, my apologies.  My father's best friend, Landon Meyer, took to caring for me an' my Ma' after he died.  He was like an uncle to me when I's a lad, never had a bad word to say about my father, and tried as best he could to honor his memory.  Eventually though, he an my Ma' took to caring for each other more'n they thought.  Can't say I blame them, travelling together as much as we did.  He's been 'round as long as I can remember, raised me to be a good man, and as far as I'm concerned, he's my Da'.  I'd have a private word with anyone who said o'erwise.  


4.Do you have any siblings?  What are/were they like?


No siblings to speak of, although I spent a lot of time with other kids when I was younger, might as well've been brothers n' sisters.


5.Where do you live now, and with whom?  Describe the place and the person/people.


Well, my Ma' and my Da' are both currently in Little Ala Mhigo.  Da's not mending too well, and Ma's doing what she can to take care of him.  I only recently left them to come to Ul'Dah, looking for work.  They simply don't have the means to handle everything, and it's about time I leanrned the way o' the world, such as it is.  I'm shacked up at the Quicksand for the time being, but I don't have intentions o' staying for long.  It's a bit cramped in my opinion, but I've met a lot of fine folk there.

6.What is your occupation?


Not sure I 'ave one as of yet, sir.  I'm just trying to provide fer my folks, and I'll take what jobs some other folks may not.  No work is too little.  Why, did you have something needs doin?  I know I take after my Ma', wasn't blessed with a highlander's stature, but I'm strong for my size and a hard worker.  I've tried my hand at minin' and I've thrown together a bit of jewelry to send home to Ma'.  She deserves to have summin' beautiful to look at, what-with-all she's been through.  Folk's say I c'n handle a blade well enough when it comes to it.  I got convinced by another traveler to sign myself up at the gladiator's guild, foolhardy as that seems.  Still, best offense is a good defense, and with so much going on in the world today, I'll be damned if I can't defend my family.

*looks down at himself, thoughtfully*  I'd say I'm about.. 5 fulms n 10ilms, rought 160 ponz.  I take after my Ma's midlander heritage, so I don't look like my father or my Da', for that matter.  Got my mother's eyes, but she makes jokes about my reddish hair.  Da' smirks n says I must've been the fishmonger's son, but Ma' usually gives him jab and a chuckle.  Let's see, what else... Oh this? *touches the scar his left cheek* Sometimes I forget it's there, happened many moons ago.  Took an arrow when we were traveling through some dangerous ground, and didn't have the time or gil for a proper healer, so I had to let it heal under the grace o' the Twelve.  


8.To which social class do you belong?


I don't suppose any at the moment, sir.  My folks're doin as best they can over'n Little Ala Mhigo, and I've just gotten to the 'Sand..  Don't really know why folks bother so much with labels though, if'n I can speak freely.  I don't mean any disrespect, just don't see the point is all.  Folks're who they are, not who people say they are.  


9.Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?


I tell you, all of the Aether in the air's been know to make me feel a bit ill.  Dunno if I'd go as far to call it an allergy, but I'm definitely sensitive to it.  I hope that's not a problem... some o' the menders I've spoken with said it should pass with time.


10. Are you right- or left-handed?


Depends on what I'm holdin', but I make my marks with my right hand, sir.


11. What does your voice sound like?


Erm... That's a bit odd, isn't it.  I guess it's fairly common, I've been told I've a kind voice.  Bit of an accent, I s'pose.  Guess that doesn't surprise me, all the folk I've been around.


12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?


I say "s'pose" quite a bit, I s'pose.  *blurts out loud laughing* Sorry sir, that was not deliberate!


13. What do you have in your pockets?


*looking concerned* I'm sorry, were we not to bring anything here with us?  My Ma's always callin me Fidgit on account oh the racket I can make when I'm sittin still.  Let's see here... *pulls out a small coin pouch (32 gil), a quaint but well made ring* That's something I made for my Ma', honest... *a few green and purple crystal shards, a map of Eorzea, a small and well worn leather journal, a few scraps of parchment, some appear to be pamphlets that are handed out in the markets, and a quill* I do enjoy writing when I can.  Ma' taught me my marks very early, and I've always been inquisitive about history.


14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?


My Da' warns me about being too friendly, says it can come across as naive.  Warns me about asking too many questions when there's more to learn with your eyes.  That an I'm easily excitable and probably a bit over-sensitive.  Can't stand the thought o' someone being hurt on account o' me, especially if there's naught I can do to fix it.

Generally speaking, I can't complain.  I was loved, I was taught how to take care of myself, how to respect others.  The few people that know my story seem to think that it's an awful lot to go through so young, but I've learned on the road that most folks have a story to tell, and with e'rthing that's been happening of late it won't surprise me if we start hearing tales stranger than mine.

*with a troubled grin, his gaze is drawn away again, as if seeing something that's not there*  My Father's smile, his worried eyes... and smoke..

Not much officially on account of us moving so often.  My Ma' n Da' have done their best to teach me my marks and the way of things.  Can't say I'd mind more if time permits, but tha'ts not where my priorities are at the moment.


18. Did you enjoy school?


You know something?  I know this may sound strange, but I actually did.  Especially history.  Can't move forward if you don't know where you've been, ya know?


19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?


From folks we met while travelling.  I've had to pull a blade now and again to protect us from beasts on the road.  I'm a decent hunter as well.


20. While growing up, did you have any role models?  If so, describe them.


My Father'n my Da'.  The stories that my Da's told me about my Father's bravery were like fantasies when I was younger.  He was a damned fine spearman, one o' the best if ye' ask my Da', a Dragoon to the last... My Da's nothing to scoff at either, truth be told.  I've seen 'im harpoon an aldegoat from 30 yalms.  One day I'd like to follow in their footfalls and pick up a spear, but I don't have time for childhood dreams at the moment.


21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?


Well enough.  I got in as much trouble as any other kid, but I learned from my mistakes, and my family never gave up on me.  I love my family, and I'd do anything for them as they've done for me.  


22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?


Reading historical tomes, anything I could get my hands on.  That and exploring.  I had a friend when I was younger, a Lalafell by the name o' Fynn.  We met when I was spending some time in the Eastern Shroud.  We'd run around looking for ruins, exploring caves, pretending we were adventurers looking for fame and glory *laughing*  There were many nights we were out later than we should'a been and got into trouble more'n once... he was there when I got this *motions back to the scar on his cheek*  He mended me as best he could; Ma said the rot'd probably set in if not for 'im.  Twelve, I haven't thought about Fynn in a long time.  I never write letters as often as I should...

I think I was always a bit inquisitive, ya know?  But I got along well enough with everyone I met.  I'd been known to crack a joke'r two, often at the wrong time.

Can't really have much rapport with people without being established.  Sure I did my best to leave my mark and be well remembered, but with us moving so often, I didn't really have time to make longstanding friends.  I talked about Fynn a bit ago, I think I knew him the longest.  I really should write him a letter, let him know how we're doing..  Sorry sir, where were we?

*grins sheepishly* I didn't realize we were going to get that personal... Let's see now, what was her name... Juel, Jolee, something like that, little auburn midland girl with speckles all over her face.  We'd stopped someplace in the shroud along the river one summer.  I'd say I was about 12'r 13 at the time.  We spent about 4 or 5 days at a camp with some other folks who were headed west.  She'n I snuck off one night as she had "something important to tell me".  We ran up the river bank and she snuck us under a bush.  I was so excited to learn whatever it was she wanted to tell me that I barely noticed when she kissed me.  Oblivious, is the word.  Anyroad, we parted ways the next day and that was that.

*squints his eyes and smirks*  I uh... *chuckles* is... is that... that information really necessary, sir?

I'm sorry, am I a what?  *laughs uncontrollably* No, no, nothing like that.  I'm pretty much what you see before you, sir.  Probably the strangest thing about me are the dreams I have.

Well sir, I don't quite know how to answer that.  I'd have to say it's between two, and one of them I don't remember so well.  My Father... well, you know that story, or at least as much as I do.  Beyond that, I'd have to say coming to Ul'Dah.  Striking out on my own.  Still don't know how it's going to turn out, but I'm still writing that story *he smiles wryly*

My parents, beyond a doubt.

Well, I've been here a week and I'm not dead yet, so I must be doing something right *laughing*  Honestly I'd still say the Judge is out on that.  I just try to do my best to not shame myself or my family.

Not.. not being strong enough, for my Father.  I know there was nothing I could do, I know that now, but... I... *clears his throat*  Could... could you give me a moment, sir?  *takes a drink of water, exhales slowly, and looks back up with a weak smile*

I once stole my Da's trousers when he was bathing in a spring.  *laughs aloud* He must've chased me for nearly a malm, naked as a babe for the Twelve and all to see.

None that I'm aware of, no sir.  I haven't been here long enough to cause any trouble, and I don't intend to.


35. When was the time you were the most frightened?


Maybe the last time I saw my Father... there was so much panic, so many screams, so much smoke...  The last time I was that scared was when Dalamud fell... Twelve, I've never seen my mother's face that color before... We weren't anywhere near the Flats, but I'll never forget the crimson moon bleeding into the sky...  When the Garlean's started sending scout ships my Ma panic'd and we ran further south, never looking back.


36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?


I still don't see why my sex life is important, sir...  Oh, I uh... *clears throat* What was the question?  Um... pass..? *blushing*

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

My Ma'n Da's wedding in the Twelveswood.  It was a beautiful evening, I've never seen so many pyreflies in my life...

Never had much time for politics, although I've been gathering information since I've arrived *motions to the pamphlets he previously pulled from his pockets*  I don't know where I stand on modern views, but historical policies and alliances intrigue me.

In defense, I think I could, yes.  The way I see it, if it's worth fighting about, chances are both parties are guilty of something.  At least in each other's eyes.

I try not to linger on thoughts like that, sir.  I know what men are capable of, and I pray The Twelve give me strength that one day those men will see me and know fear.


47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?


I don't rightly know... I think I could, possibly, but lives are fleeting and not to be wasted.  I couldn't imagine my parent's not together, and I pray that I have that someday.


48. What do you believe makes a successful life?


Honesty, integrity, willpower.  Willingness to assist your roadfellows without expecting to be compensated.  Good things come to those who work for it, my Da' would say.


49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?


I try to be honest without being blunt.  I couldn't stand the thought o' upsetting someone o'er an opinion, but I will tell the truth when it's there to be told.  We've all got our secrets, but I'm loyal to a fault.

None that don't exist in the commonfolks minds already, I suppose.  I don't have much love for the Empire, to be sure, but I don't know that I'd call that a prejudice.

Kill an innocent, or stand by while someone is taken advantage of.  Granted, that's gotten me in more trouble than I'd like to admit, but there are those out there that can't take care of themselves.  Just the other nite, some merchant and his goons were harassing a young woman about some supposed debt he owed her.  Things looked like they were about to get rough, so I stepped in.  It ended in a fight, but what was I to do?  Just stand there and watch her be beaten, or worse, walk away and try not to think about it?  No one else was stepping in, so why not lead by example?  That's what my Da' would do, that's what my Father would have done...

Family.  Some people distinguish friends from family, but I don't.  Home is more than where you lay your head.  It's where you lay your heart, your soul, sir.  And if there's nothing and no-one to share it with, then I can't see much point in anything.  But that's just my opinion.

You’re not supposed toask a woman her age, but I was born in the Sagoli desert, likely well before you were born.

My mother was K’deiki Nhyt, a skilled huntress in her time, and my father K’jhanhi, one of the Nunh of our tribe and a skilled craftsman. I don’t speak with either of them anymore, if they are even still alive.

One sibling, whofollowed strongly in our mother’s footsteps. We never really got along because of this, and like my mother I haven’t spoken with her in five years.

Limsa Lominsa, on my own. It’s a simple rented room; I don’t have the time or the inclination to keep up with anything more than that.

I manage other people’s assets discretely for a small, independent firm. Usually my assignments involve auditing the account of one of my employer’s clients, though I’ve also managed them in other ways.

Part 784. Describe the routine of a normal day for you.  How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
Wake up, wash and eat, go to work, return home, chores, eat again, and hopefully there is some time left for my little hobby. I suppose I’d feel lost if that were disrupted in some way.

Ah, that’s easy: my attention to detail.

This question is nearly as useless as wishing to change the past.

I suppose some would call me introverted.

Everything has its place.

I am not an adventurer. It’s about as suited to me as a fish in the desert.

93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?
See my work accepted by the arcanist guild.

94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
Hopefully still alive, probably still in Limsa Lominsa, hopefully working my way through the banking system of the arcanist guild.

Calmly and at a moment of my choosing.

96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.
Clean my home, eat a good meal, and read a book.

97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?
It would be nice to have my name on the wall of notable contributors to the advancement of the arcanist guild, but… that’s unlikely. I’ll settle for simply having not made a fool of myself.

I don’t think I’m the best judge of that, but… Careful, reliable, courteous

I’m sure there are plenty of not-so-friendly ways to describe me. Picky, easily distracted, gullible.

Part 1: The BasicsPart 1: The Basics


1.What is your full name?

Hirilonde Turuphant, Captain of... no... no, sorry, just Hirilonde now. Old habits. I tend to go by ‘Havenfinder’ more often than not these days.

2.Where and when were you born?

Limsa Lominsa, though I’m told it was a near thing. My parents were fleeing... well, as I understand it, the plan was to flee Eorzea altogether, but my arrival convinced them to linger, and I guess Limsa agreed with them.

3.Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)

Anardil Turuphant - He was a Dragoon of Ishguard before I was born. Originally low-born, he rose through the ranks through hard work and skill mostly. If half the stories are true, he was three times the knight I ever was. The story didn’t end happily, though. He was disgraced, ended up duelling and killing a nobleman, and was forced to flee Ishguard with my mother. He never really recovered from it, and eventually went mad. A young Ishguardian knight was forced to put him down.

Aowyn Turuphant - My birth mother. When I was young, and my father was alive, she used to tell me stories about him in his glory days... though she left out the part where it went wrong. I guess they were her way of remembering the man she married as he kinda slipped into a dark place. Things were hard for us... I didn’t know any better, but I imagine her life before was a lot easier. When he DID die, she just... broke. She couldn’t go on any more. She died a few years later... no real cause, she just ‘stopped’.

Rihan - Rihan was a longtime friend of my father, and the one who helped him and mother escape Ishguard, and almost certain hanging. She was a miqo’te, and a bit odd even for them, but she was fiercely loyal, even after my father died. She stepped in and took over raising me after mother wasn’t able to, and made sure she was well cared for for the time she had left. It wasn’t until a few years after mother died, but Rihan was the one I called ‘Mom’. She died shortly after Isilme was born. Which was a shame... I think Isilme would have benefitted greatly knowing her.

4.Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?

None that I know of.

5.Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.

Before the Calamity I lived in a nice little house in the Officer’s Ward of Limsa Lominsa. The Officer’s Ward doesn’t really exist now, nor does the house, and as far as my former position and rank, neither do I. So... I live in a tent making my way through the Twelveswood and Thanalan.

6.What is your occupation?

Formerly I was a Captain of the Knights of the Barracuda. Mostly I was responsible for training of new recruits, especially the ones sorely in need of a sense of honor and duty. Near the end I was put on frontline service, and fought at Carteneau.

Now? Well... no one remembers who I was, my home is gone, my wife... *Sigh*

Adventurer. I’m an adventurer now. That’s how I started out, and it looks like it’s how I will end.

I’m not sure anymore. Vagrant, perhaps?

9.Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?

Severe allergy to swords between my ribs. Other than that, I like to think I’m in pretty good shape for a man in his forties... alright late forties...

Turuphants have always been blessed with slow aging. Used to annoy M’ahayi that... nevermind.

10. Are you right- or left-handed?

Right handed.

11. What does your voice sound like?

The thunder of a true hero!

… Alright, alright. I’ve got a touch of an accent. (In OOC terms, he has a slight irish lilt)

12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?

I don’t know that I have a catch phrase. Hmmm... maybe I should fix that. Never too late, right?

13. What do you have in your pockets?

A cloak to wear over my armor when passing through dusty areas like Thanalan, a few gil, a compass, map, old crust of bread, a crystal pendant and... a picture of my wife, M’ahayi.



14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?

I tend to be pretty laid back, now moreso than in my younger days, but I DID always enjoy a good bar fight. There’s an art to it, of course. Can’t just stand up and start decking people, that’s not my style. I NEVER throw the first punch. You gotta know when things are getting tense, and pick the right moment to be a gobshite and try and be calm and reasonable. One of ‘em will lay you out, and then the fun starts.

Part 2: Growing UpPart 2: Growing Up

15. How would you describe your childhood in general?

Not as bad as it could have been. I guess... I insulated myself against the badness in this cloak of naive idealism. It was alright Dad died, I’d avenge him. It was alright Mom was crazy, I’d bring honor back to the name and make her proud enough she’d speak to me again.

It wore thin later on, of course. I was an angry kid, under it all. I wouldn’t let myself take it out on anyone else, so I made the world take it out on me. Like maybe if the world was too busy beating the shite out of me physically, it wouldn’t have time to take anymore from me. I got in a lot of fights... in Limsa Lominsa, that was damned easy, all I had to do was be a self-righteous little prat.

Got tired of that too, about the time I met Dyterium and company.

16. What is your earliest memory?

Being carried on my father’s shoulders, as we watched the ships come in, with mother beside us. That’s when he told me what Turuphant means.

“Big Wooden Whale”

Not exactly glamous, but literal translations rarely are. Apparently this language lacked a decent word for ship.

17. How much schooling have you had?

Not much as a kid. Couldn’t afford it, especially not after mother took ill. Mama Rihan made sure I knew how to read and write, and basic math and such.

When I joined the Cudas, I took advantage of their libraries to start educating myself better. I’m no scholar, but I’m no dullard either. And knowledge is more useful than a sword and shield sometimes.

18. Did you enjoy school?

What there was of it is kind of a blur. I just remember it being a place I didn’t really wanna be, filled with other kids who didn’t really wanna be there.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?

Rihan taught me a little basic bladework to start me out, but most of my learning came from an old paladin, a retired sultansworn from Ul’Dah by the name of Balasiel. I think... he saw how angry I was, and that I needed a positive way to channel it, to find a way to let it go and find purpose beyond hating the world.

The rest, bits and pieces I’ve learned from comrades, travelers... whoever had something to teach and was willing to teach it, I was willing to learn. To this day I’m learning new things.

20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.

My father, in a way... The role model I had wasn’t him... wasn’t remotely close. It was this mental image of him I built up in his absence. Kind of... how I wanted my father to be. More bits and pieces, taken from stories, and how I saw other kids interact with their fathers.

21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?

Father was rarely home... he was always out finding some new battle to spend his rage on, but his rage just kept on mounting, until... I guess he didn’t feel safe to be with us anymore. Mother... mother was... detached is the best word I can come up with. I was always close to Mama Rihan, though. She’d shake her head at my foibles, but she always seemed to know that right balance of support, and letting me work through my own issues.

22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?

A Free Paladin. Beholden to no lord or land by my own conscience. Feh... now that I’ve got it, I’d rather go back to the steady paycheck and three squares a day. I’m pretty sure I did more good corrupting the minds of young pirates with thoughts of honor and fair play then I ever did out on my own.

23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?

I enjoyed being competitive. I liked feeling superior, I guess, even if just for a few moments. Balasiel tried to steer me towards cooperative activities, teach me a foundation of working well with others.

24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?

Stubbornness, and a lot of buried anger that would pop out when I was stressed too far.

25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?

I wasn’t popular, but I wasn’t an outcast either. I had the usual circle of friends, belived the usual nonsense about no one ‘getting’ us and whatnot, and was a pretty average little turd. Maybe a bit turdier than most when I lost my temper. I did fancy myself a romantic, though.

26. When and with whom was your first kiss?

Ah... this lovely young flower of an elezen girl. Dark eyes, dark hair, pale skin, full, pouty lips... I was fourteen, same as her, and we had snuck off to avoid some of the adults conscripting us into some boring, menial task, and were hiding at the docks in between pallets of freight.

I’m afraid time and age has stolen her name from me. But I will never forget those eyes.

27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?

*He chuckles and shakes his head* A married man with a daughter? I suppose you could assume I had adopted her, and had taken some vow of celibacy or... No, no, not a virgin.

My first time was... remarkably less memorable than my first kiss. I think, probably because it kind of trampled over all of my romantic ideas on how such things should go. One of my friends had nicked some rum from his father, and we all got drunk and kind of paired off. The girl’s name was Karen... highlander lass. Pretty enough. I don’t think I really meant anything to her, we hadn’t talked much before or since. I was more... a way of losing something she was eager to be rid of, I suppose. An act of rebellion against her father and his ideas of suitors for her I guess. It was clumsy and confused and awkward, and I remember thinking of the elezen girl during it.

Cassie. That was her name, Cassie. The elezen lass I mean. I don’t think I spoke with Cassie after that either. I was too ashamed.

28. If you are a supernatural being (i.e. mage, werewolf, vampire), tell the story of how you became what you are or first learned of your own abilities. If you are just a normal human, describe any influences in your past that led you to do the things you do today.

I’m certainly not supernatural. But... I have seen how much in this world is supernatural. There are dark things in this world that would tear it down around them. Maybe these forces are more obvious now, but they were always there. My time with the original Crystalline showed me how important it is for people to stand up to them.

Part 3: Past InfluencePart 3: Past Influences

29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?

I would say probably getting roasted by a pissed off dragon-primal, except not?

The day I met M’ahayi?

The day my daughter was born?

… No, not even that.

It was the day I met Dyterium Zelorius, John Spiegel, Dweia, Zalfaeyr... the day I joined Crystalline. Everything else came from that. Everything.

30. Who has had the most influence on you?

Probably Isilme, though she doesn’t know yet I’m still alive...

… What? Don’t look at me like that! If she’s like everyone else, I doubt she can even remember me! The Calamity spared our lives, but at the cost of our legacy! How am I supposed to... to approach her like this?

*He sighs and slumps a bit* Even if she does remember, she has mourned, and moved on. Until I know WHY we were spared... and what I’m supposed to do... maybe it’s best if she didn’t have to go through it all again.

31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?

*He smiles a bit* Isilme Turuphant, of course.

32. What is your greatest regret?

You want me to pick just one? No... no it’s impossible. There’s too many I’ve lost, too many I’ve failed. You can’t live a life like mine without accumulating a mountain of regrets.

33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?

*He leans forward and folds his hands together, sighing*

It was early in my relationship with M’ahayi. Loving her was... not easy. She was a criminal, stubborn, and sometimes I wondered if her repentance was more for my sake than any true guilt she felt for her crimes.

Then I met Luya. Luya was... Luya was EASY to love. She was beautiful, and she fed my ego. She made me feel powerful, and manly, and in control.

She convinced me of all the dark things I thought of M’ahayi... no... she helped me convince myself. And I confronted M’ahayi, and I left her pleas fall on deaf ears, and I callously ripped away the redemption I had offered her. And it nearly destroyed her. And at Luya’s urging, I tried to close my heart, to let it.

Finally, I showed M’ahayi the barest hint of compassion... And Luya turned on me. And I saw how little I had seen of her. I knew M’ahayi’s dark side, all her sins and evil were laid bare to me, and I loved her in spite of it. But Luya, I had not seen. I had blinded myself and...

She was cheating on me, of course. But worse, she had twisted a good friend to the point of suicide, and another to challenge me for her heart. She had spread lies about me, mixed with hurtful secrets to those I cared for, and in the space of a few days, she laid waste to my life.

Through all of it, M’ahayi never hated me. She forgave me, and begged forgiveness from me... for what, by that point I didn’t know. She didn’t ask for me to love her... just to know that she loved me.

I left Luya, left her ring and her lies and her games, and begged M’ahayi for forgiveness. And in the years since, no matter what others said, it was the right choice. To think I nearly destroyed something so callously...

That’s how I knew I had the potential for great evil in me. Great selfishness. I always had it, and I have it to this day.

34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?

No

35. When was the time you were the most frightened?

Shortly after Isilme was born, she started running a fever. This was when we learned that she was ill. She nearly died from it, and nothing we did helped. The best medicines the Alchemist’s Guild in Ul’Dah could produce... nothing. I have never felt so... helpless in all my life.

36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?

Ah, yes, THIS story! Something cheerful for a change! Yes, yes, I encourage you to laugh at my pain. I certainly do, it’s hilarious.

I was new to Crystalline, still a lad. So green behind the ears you’d mistake me for a baby goobbue. At any rate, there was this girl... her name was Raenef. Elezen wildwood, long silver hair. Former pirate... or perhaps just on hiatus, I’m not sure, but she was a vision. She shared with me a smile and a kind word, and like any foolish young man full of hormones and confidence, I imagined this equalled true romance. At the encouragement of a mischievous little lalafel named Casiala, I sought Raenef out, and dramatically poured my heart out to her.

… Whereupon I learned she was with another, but she thought my confession was absolutely adorable.

I had never been more shamed. But at the same time, it was an important deflation of ego for me, and a lesson. I was rejected and survived, and I am indeed able to look back on it and laugh.

37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?

Nothing. “The Ends do not justify the means. They are the sum of the means, as the road travelled determines the destination.” Like anyone, I sometimes wonder how things might have been different had I taken a different path, but in the end, if I cannot own my decision, and their consequences, what honor do I have?

38. What is your best memory?

For all of the hardships we later faced, the birth of my daughter, Isilme. She was... she IS a miracle. There hasn’t been a day she hasn’t made me proud.

39. What is your worst memory?

… You won’t believe me if I told you. No one would. Dalamud isn’t the first threat that’s arisen to end the Astral era, it was just the first successful one. It wasn’t just one event, forces have been building to bring about the Seventh Umbral for a long time, and the fight against it has gone on longer than I’ve been around.

My friends and I, in our heyday... we fought that fight. We won, too. One battle, anyway, among dozens, but it was an important one. A demon named Pandorica.... the Bringer of Evil to Man, he was called.

No, you don’t know him. No one does, that was part of the point, he was supposed to be forgotten/ so he’d lose his power.

… Yes, I know telling you about him is therefore counterproductive, but it’s moot. You won’t believe any of it once you leave here, and quickly forget. It’s part of the geas.

Anyway... we fought this demon. Won, too. Which why you won’t believe any of this in about ten minutes. But before he died, he turned his power on us. Pandorica’s Curse. The evils of man. Arrogance. Lust. Apathy. Hopelessness. Directionlessness. Loneliness.

We didn’t feel the effects at first... we laughed them off, but over time, we felt them. Some of us weren’t affected directly. For me, it attacked Isilme. For Dyterium, it turned those he loved away from him. For Johnson, it isolated him.

That moment of realization... of what was happening, of what might come... that was the worst memory I have. That sick, sinking feeling.

Part 4: Beliefs And OpinionsPart 4: Beliefs And Opinions

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?

Why be pessimistic? If you’re right, things are terrible, and if you’re wrong, the nice things that DO happen are marred with you being proven wrong, and never quite being able to trust them.

41. What is your greatest fear?

My greatest fear... came to pass. The only thing I fear is dying before I made the most of this borrowed time I’ve been given.

42. What are your religious views?

I’m not exactly pious. I know that’s the image of the Holy Knight and all, but, honestly... I’ve seen enough of gods and demons to know that I have to make my own way, the price of their aid tends to be too dear. Oschon guides me, but I prefer to think of him as a travelling companion. When my time finally comes to join my ancestors, I hope I have a few stories to tell him as payment of passage.

43. What are your political views?

Politicians are simple to understand. They’re just people, with a very specialized job. Their job is to stay in power, be they Prince or Prime Minister, and they do that by keeping the people happy, healthy and the nation well and strong.

Some of them are better at it than others, some slack off on the job, some are utterly misguided, and some are crooked, but it’s just like any other job. And they’re not any more enlightened than I am.

So I make my decisions on a case-by-case basis, like I feel everyone should.

… Though I have to admit to a weakness to a lady in uniform. And there is no more regal a lady in Limsa than the good Admiral.

44. What are your views on sex?

Heh...  we live in a world where people are more scandalized by a couple making love in a dark alley than a murder in the same. We are still very much at the wrong cardinal of THAT moral compass. Live and let live, love and let love.

45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?

*His expression darkens* Killing is wrong. As much as we like to justify, and pray to the elementals, and no matter the benefit, it is a wrong done to another soul. The smallest dormouse, the smallest flea, even... a wrong. An evil that our world requires of us to survive, to maintain balance.

To kill a man is a tremendous evil, a tremendous burden on one’s soul. It must always be for an equivalent good. And there is so much killing that isn’t...

*He takes a deep breath* I suppose that doesn’t make sense, does it? Let’s just say... I never take a life lightly. No matter how stained and worthless it might seem.

46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?

Seek to strip another man of his free will, and his right to choose.

47. Do you believe in the existence of soul mates and/or true love?

Yes. *He smiles* Yes, of course. I also believe that soul mates aren’t something predetermined by fate, destined forever. To hear another’s soul, to reflect it in your own... that is special and rare, and all too difficult to achieve, much less sustain.

48. What do you believe makes a successful life?

To follow your beliefs to the end, no matter what. The man who has sold his heart and loyalty to gil or blind loyalty is a sad, empty creature.

49. How honest are you about your thoughts and feelings (i.e. do you hide your true self from others, and in what way)?

I’m not a complex man. Maybe a bit moreso than I was thirty years ago... everyone has secrets after all, and after this long, they pile up... But no, I’m not really the type to hide my feelings from someone. Most tend to know how I feel about them or what they’re doing rather quickly.

Still, was never quite the firecracker Isilme is.

50. Do you have any biases or prejudices?

The aforementioned weakness for a lady in uniform?

Or any pretty face, truly. Especially one in need of aid.

51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?

I will not betray a trust. My word is... in the past figuratively, but now quite literally... all I have.

52. Who or what, if anything, would you die for (or otherwise go to extremes for)?

I’ve been willing to die for more people and causes than I can count. There are no shortage of things worth dying for in this world. Not the least of which is the world itself, though personally I think that one has come up far too often as of late.

A better question would be... what will keep you alive, when it’s easier to die? What will keep you on your feet when you want nothing more than to sink to your knees?

I used to have a very good answer for that question. Now?... I’m searching.

Part 5: Relationships With OthersPart 5: Relationships With Others

53. In general, how do you treat others (politely, rudely, by keeping them at a distance, etc.)? Does your treatment of them change depending on how well you know them, and if so, how?

One lesson I was never able to impart to Isilme is civility. She’s too headstrong to be good at it, but... Even when facing your worst enemy, there’s no gain in discarding civility.

Besides, you’d be surprised what you can learn if you keep someone talking long enough. They’re less likely to do that if you’re lunging for their throat right off the bat.

As for less grim circumstances... everyone you meet has their own story. That surly waitress has a reason to be surly. That rude man who pushes past you in the street has a reason for his haste. No matter how petty they might seem, their reasons are important to them. If you can keep a civil tongue and manner, you might just remind them of theirs.

And who knows? You might find out their story is more interesting than you think.

54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?

Isilme. I literally have no one left, after all.

55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?

Dyterium.

It’s painful to know that he passed without us ever quite seeing eye-to-eye. He disapproved of M’ahayi. Strongly. But... he was one of the most noble and knightly men I ever met. He deserved a better end than he got.

56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.

My friends are all dead now. I have a few acquaintances, but none of them remember me. I’m alone.

57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.

… You already know that story.

58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.

Many times... You know more than enough of that story as well I think.

59. What do you look for in a potential lover?

I’ll know it when I see it. But... I think perhaps it might be awhile before I’m coaxed back into that game. If at all.

60. How close are you to your family?

… Not as close as I like. Not as close as I should have been.

61. Have you started your own family? If so, describe them. If not, do you want to? Why or why not?

I married M’ahayi, and had one daughter. More... were not an option.

62. Who would you turn to if you were in desperate need of help?

I doubt I have anyone left. I wouldn’t seek to burden Isilme with it... she seems to have beaten her sword into a ploughshare, and I will not rob that from her.

Maybe in time I will find others I can lean on.

63. Do you trust anyone to protect you? Who, and why?

Protection was always MY job. I am the one others trusted to be protected by.

64. If you died or went missing, who would miss you?

I’ve already been mourned. Got a nice little gravesite up on the hill overlooking the sea, next to my wife. Just procrastinating about lying down in it.

M’ahayi will understand. I was often late coming home when there was work to do.

65. Who is the person you despise the most, and why?

I don’t despise anyone that much anymore, I think. Hate is very... tiring.

I hate actions, I hate situations, but people? I haven’t met anyone truly worth that kind of effort in a long time. Maybe that will change, but I’d be perfectly content if it didn’t.

66. Do you tend to argue with people, or avoid conflict?

Arguments imply you’re unsure of your position. I don’t feel the need to bludgeon my viewpoint into someone else’s skull, with words or fists. I’ll share it, and it’s theirs to take or leave.

… I don’t mind making it clear that I won’t tolerate them trying to bludgeon anything into MY skull, however. Actually, it can be a lot of fun. Good way to unwind.

67. Do you tend to take on leadership roles in social situations?

I lead if needed. I follow if needed. I do what’s needed.

68. Do you like interacting with large groups of people? Why or why not?

I prefer smaller groups. Large groups tend to drown things out with noise and confusion.

69. Do you care what others think of you?

Perhaps. I certainly don’t mind earning a smile from the pretty young desk clerk, or making a group of children laugh with a joke or a trick. I guess... it’s less what they think of me, and more I want to know I at least made them smile.

… Oh, and fishing. Best thing in the world, fishing!

71. What is your most treasured possession?

A small pendant, a crystal in the shape of a heart. It was the product of a friend of mine trying to create an artificial linkpearl... don’t ask me why, linkpearls certainly aren’t scarce. Best I can tell from all of the babble, she was doing it to see if she could. It’s actually one half of a larger stone. It used to glow, to let me know the person who held the other half was safe. It would change color to give me an idea of how they were feeling.

It doesn’t glow anymore... obviously.

These little flour tortilla concoctions called tacos. Specifically this recipe from this place called Tav... Taz... some island nation. Tasty, filling, and portable... and nice break from sandwiches.

I like a good dramatic story.

I have a book in my pack... a clever little book by a historian who combed through the memoirs of an Ala Mihgan soldier, and a Gridanian Bard during the border war in the Twelveswood a century or so ago. He managed to find one from each side who were recounting the same events... even referenced each other, and stitched them together into a compelling read.

Hope it lasts me a bit, it’s the only book I’ll likely have for a while.

75. What is your idea of good entertainment (consider music, movies, art, etc.)?

I like just about anything with compelling music. The right bard and right song can make ANY tale special.

I tried out a pipe once. Hoped it’d make me look sophisticated. Nearly threw up... how was I supposed to know you don’t actually inhale the smoke? At any rate, I won’t turn down a good tankard of mead or beer.

77. How do you spend a typical Saturday night?

Usually I’ll find a good tavern to settle down in. Never was one for getting falling down drunk, but sometimes it’s just nice to absorb the atmosphere. Sometimes I’ll sit and drink, sometimes I’ll find someone to chat with, trade tall tales with. Sometimes I’ll find someone all too eager to beat their ideas into my skull, and I’ll explain to them, and their mates, why this isn’t acceptable.

That last one gets expensive, though. Barkeeps usually want you to pay for any tables, chairs, or walls you’ve broken. Trying to cut down given my currently limited means.

78. What makes you laugh?

Many things. Usually, happiness. Even the small joys are worth a chuckle or two.

I’ve seen far too much to be honestly shocked by anything anymore.

Offended? Something practically every day. Humanity is forever resourceful and obscene in finding ways to make itself suffer.

Find a pier, or a cliff... or hell a puddle if that’s all there is, toss a line in, and fish for a while.

Fishing, mostly. If I can find a sympathetic ear, I’ll bend it with my tale. Or listen to theirs, either will help.

I prefer to think I’m good at coming up with plans spontaneously.

84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?

Normal routine, huh? Things used to be very nicely routine. Wake up well before any sane person should be up... get dragged back to bed by the wife... eventually manage to tear myself away, usually still early enough to get the recruits grumbling as they dragged their sorry arses out of their cots. Take them out for a run, a good ten or fifteen malms, or if they were new, until about half of them were puking their guts out. Then into drills and the routine of military training.

Now? I still get up early, though not for the same reasons. Usually a nightmare now. I get up and find some poor training dummy, dead stump, or whatever and beat the hell out of it until I calm down. Then I break down my camp and decide what direction to head in, and leave the rest up to the winds.

A stubborn refusal to die?

… no, I’m not going to call that a strength. I’m not sure.

Heh... A stubborn refusal to die.

I’m not sure there is much. I earned my grey hairs and scars honestly.

And I’m bad at not living in the past. I’m trying to be better, but... I’m bad at it right now.

Publically? For truth, justice, and the paladinny way, or something like that.

Privately? I don’t know anything else. It was this and soldiering. That’s it. I could have easily done other things with my life, but... I have... a compulsion, I guess. I have to be doing something to make a difference. I’m an impatient, immature man, and I need to make change happen.

I suppose a fisherman can make the world a better place just as well, putting food on the table of more than his own, but... that’s not enough. I know I can’t force the world to change, to be better, to be kinder and safer and happier. But I can’t stop trying.

Living, mostly. Until it’s time to stop.

Nako'li ChalahkoPart 1: The Basics
1.What is your full name?
Nako'li Chalahko

2.Where and when were you born?
a large cave in northern Thanalan

3.Who are/were your parents?  (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)
My mother was Nako Chalahko, She is a forager, and is always smiling. She regularly uses the plants and items she gathers to make poultices for the families in the cave.


My father was Jiku'to Undeka. He was a wise one, and aparently I get affinity for the Aetheric through him. He was always serious, but was a good teacher.

4.Do you have any siblings?  What are/were they like?
I have two brothers, of which I am the youngest, Nako'a, and Nako'to. Nako'a died in a hunting accident a couple of years ago, but he was always full of life, treating myself and Nako'to whenever he could. Nako'to himself took after my father a lot, but without the magic. He makes his way as a hunter, but as he is away from civilisation a lot, he regularly sends me his pay.


I then have my sisters, as I said its a fairly large cave, it has to with all of them living in it. We have my older sisters Feni, Kima and Lotu, as well as my twin, Peta and my youngest, Etti. They are all laugh a lot, and take after my mother tremendously. Peta and Lotu also aquired my fathers talent for weaving Aetheric currents, though I seem to have struck a balance, Peta favours the Black, whilst Lotu is strong in the White.

5.Where do you live now, and with whom?  Describe the place and the person/people.
How do you describe Ul'dah? it is a wondrous city where you can find whatever you want, or need, provided you have the Gil. I reside in the Sandstorm currently, and it is a fine establishment indeed.

6.What is your occupation?
I am an adventuring scholar, and a student of the Aetheric.

7. I stand at 6' high, and am of a wiry build. I have white fur ending in black tips, as evidenced by my ears. I am typically found wearing a short, loose robe, perfect for wandering in the blistering Ul'dahn sun. Do not let my robes deceive you however, my wirey frame bellies a strength that comes from practicing every day with weapons, for to keep ones mind sharp, one must also strengthen the body. My tail is long and slender, ending in a tuft of fur.


I have dark purple markings across my cheeks, as well as a birthmark in the center of my forehead. One of my eyes is the typical gold of my family, whilst my left is the same shade as my markings. My Father believes it to be due to being of a pair of twins who can both manipulate the Aether. My twins right eye is purple. I have two crossed scars over my nose where my brother cut me twice for making mistakes whilst dueling. Needless to say, I have never made that mistake again.

I am well off enough to get by.

9.Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?
None currently, though I am still young.

I am right dominant.

11. What does your voice sound like?
Deep, and mirthful.

None, I tend not to speak enough to use words frequently, although given the nature of my studies, I guess Aether, and any derivatives.

Some different strings and twines, some leaves, feathers, beads, different colored paper, a couple of eggs and sometimes beetle or two.

I tend not to speak unless I have something important to say, otherwise communicating through body language and gestures.

My childhood was simplistic. The hunters hunted, the gatherers gathered, and I did my best to support them in their endeavours. I was not as great a hunter as my brother Nako'a, nor could I spot all the food that my sisters could. But I was passable. we played, we worked, we told stories. It was a childhood.

16. What is your earliest memory?
Waking up to the cold light of dawn with a rising feeling in my gut, I felt that I was going to be ill, but instead I set fire to a small ring of dry grass at my feet. My first taste of wild, uncontrolled magic.

17. How much schooling have you had?
I have had my fair share, probably more so, given it continues to this day. I have studied primarily Aetheric matters, but also the more mundane, for instance, architecture, mathematics, geography, engineering, history, warfare. A broad range of subjects.

Oh most definately, otherwise I would most likely have left before now.

19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?
Hunting and fighting I learned with my brothers and sisters in the tribe, and I was taught the basics of Aetheric control by my father, but that has been furthered by the Guild of Thaumaturgy. Most other things I have learned by doing, be that dancing, singing, painting etc.

My brother, Nako'a. He was the greatest hunter I knew, and he always encouraged my more academic leanings, it was he that told me that I should leave for the city to continue my studies.

"Once again, I was a bully when I was younger," he explains, "I was beaten up a few times by the bigger races..." he shifts slightly and looks to the side as if he hates admitting it. "Eventually I was left alone with my books." A smile returns as if recalling a funny memory, "I met Yshra when I was older though; about fifteen or sixteen. We became good friends."

The lalafell shifts uncomfortably in the chair, growing nervous and embarrassed, "Never, and with no one," he mutters quietly.

"My family and Yshra. Yshra is probably my best and only friend," he says. He looks off to the side again, "I'd like to say that she is my friend as well, but I can hardly speak to her...so I doubt she feels the same."

"Everything."

"Festivals are always fun; though, they tend to make me drink, which I enjoy at the time, but dislike sometime after."

A confident smirk crosses the lalafell's face as he speaks, "The Garleans and the Primals are threatening the life of every Eorzean, and my ability to work with the aether isn't something I should just let go to waste. I plan on leaving for Ul'Dah within the week to seek the aid of the Thaumaturge's Guild. Right now, my abilities are unfocused, even if they are potent. Plus, if I could learn about Black Magic, then I could protect the ones I love. Mainly her, and I might finally gain the confidence to tell her how I truly feel. And that is the main reason I will be taking up arms against these threats. Hydaelyn has blessed us all, and we can't let those who wish to destroy that, succeed in doing so."

I do odd jobs.

I don't know if I always had the gift of aetherial manipulation. Since I lost my memory during the Calamity, I can't be completely sure if it was inborn talent or dedicated training and hard work. But it feels intuitive and natural, so I would guess that I was born with an extensive aetheric capacity.

Saving Arie and her patrol's life in the desert. It was the event that started my new life.

My mother's name is W'miya Iitoh. She is of course with father, and she is very nice. I think she worries about me alot though. Father probably worried about me too, even though I tell them they don't have to. My mom likes to make clothes and cook for everyone. So, I guess you could call her a weaver and a culinarian.

I don't think I have any siblings. I guess there are alot of people who are part of the tribe but, I wouldn't call them my siblings.

I treat people the way I want to be treated, with kindness. I think I've been called motherly for doing that though.

The most important PEOPLE in my life are my parents. The reason why is because, if it weren't for them I wouldn't even be here. Nor would I have tried to adjust and follow my dreams.

I like to walk through the forests of Gridania, I like to interact with people, I also like to read and sometimes I write.

I like to read naughty books if I can find them. They're even better when they're action oriented and filled with magical fights! And has a good amount of steamy scenes in them too.

I think music is good entertainment, because you get to imagine all kinds of scenes that could work with it.

No, I don't do any of those things. I heard it makes you sick.

On a Saturday night, I'm usually with my tribe having fun. We hold festivals and everything! Our festivals are kind of late in the day though. Sometimes, I go out and walk around the forest, communing with nature. I also go find a place to get books or gather herbs and cook and other fun things.

What makes me laugh? A lot of things can make me laugh if they're funny.

Hmm, well... I guess public displays of affection that just go too far.

Insomina means you can't get to sleep, correct? *Taps her chin thinking* I would, go somewhere someone can't hear me and sing something. Or I would go swimming.

I usually go out and take a walk.

I don't think I'm spontaneous persay, but I don't really have a plan either. Unless it's some kind of important event.

84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you.  How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?
On a normal day, I'm usualy walking around Gridania, enjoying the sun. Then I go into the forest and practice my conjury either by myself or with a group. After that I climb a tree and relax, maybe take a nap or read a good book. Finally I go home and spend time with my family.
If my routine was disrupted, I don't think I would mind it all that much. As long as it's something different from what I've been doing that day.

85. What is your greatest strength as a person?
I believe that my greatest strength as a person is, being able to overcome my greatest weakness and continue on with my life as if nothing ever happened.

My greatest weakness I believe is my blindness.

Any one thing? *She tilts her head and smiles* I would love to be able to see again. Not just outlines, to see everything like everyone else does.

I think I'm pretty extroverted, depending on the circumstances.

My reasons for being an adventurer are to explore and help people. I want to get out there and see the world if you will. Maybe make a name for myself one day.

Hmm the goal I most want to accomplish in my lifetime is to see the world.

Part 1: The Basics


1.What is your full name?


Mnarhi Nahkruru of the Onai. But... please, just call me Manari.


2.Where and when were you born?


The village of the Onai tribe. It was our only village, it didn't really need it's own name. Oh, but it was in the eastern reaches of the Twelveswood. It's not... there anymore.


3.Who are/were your parents? (Know their names, occupations, personalities, etc.)


My mother, her name was Yrala and she was so beautiful... She was not only a skilled huntress, but the best songweaver in the tribe. I don't think she passed the songweaving skill down to me. She was always kind and gentle at home. She was just graceful in everything she did. It wasn't until I was older when I saw her on the hunt and stood next to her against the Shlaivan. She could be so fierce if she had to be.


Father was named Lehmen, he was a woodworker and a leatherworker. Father was always busy, but he was still always around. I had to share him though. He wasn't just my father, after all. He had many mates, and even more daughters. I think you'd have called them my half-sisters, but back then, we didn't think of it like that. Father was always kind, and he loved all of his children. I couldn't tell if he loved all of his mates, but I know he loved mother.


4.Do you have any siblings? What are/were they like?


I only had one sibling, a sister of course. Her name was Reilah, and I miss her most of all. She was very important to me, and I'd rather not talk about it.


5.Where do you live now, and with whom? Describe the place and the person/people.


I live in Gridania with my mate, Nahue. It's a small house, the most we could afford with what gil Nahue had. He's turned the back room into his workshop, and spends most of his time there.

6.What is your occupation?


I... I don't have time for an occupation. The things I need to do don't earn me gil.

I stand at four fulms and eight ilms. I don't really know what I weigh anymore, somewhere around 103 ponz. I am a female Miqo'te Keeper of the Moon. I have long platimum blonde hair, green eyes and very pale white skin. I don't have any tattoos, but I was born with two small white markings under my eyes. I have... small scars in various places, but they fade quickly. Just minor wounds, nothing major. I only have one major scar that just won't fade. My right shoulder... it was a deep axe wound.


8.To which social class do you belong?


I'm not sure I understand the question... Social class? If that's the case... I don't really know. We own a small home in Gridania, but it was all from gil that Nahue had. I'm pretty sure we are considered poor.



9.Do you have any allergies, diseases, or other physical weaknesses?


Does being horribly sea sick count? I don't think I have anything else right now.



10. Are you right- or left-handed?


I write with my right hand. I can hold my bow with either hand. I switch off which hand leads and which hand supports when I hold my axe depending on the situation.



11. What does your voice sound like?


To me, it simply sounds like my voice. I've heard others say it sounds small, or cute. I don't think it sounds very cute these suns.



12. What words and/or phrases do you use very frequently?


Probably... “I'm sorry.” I think I say that too much. I tend to start many sentences with “Well...” I'm not really sure what else.



13. What do you have in your pockets?


A small whetstone, some flint, a carving knife, and a spare bowstring.



14. Do you have any quirks, strange mannerisms, annoying habits, or other defining characteristics?


Well... I know I tend to fidget and fuss with my hair when I'm nervous. Not to mention I think I, um... stammer a bit sometimes. I don't really notice though.



Part 2: Growing Up


15. How would you describe your childhood in general?


Growing up was wonderful. I treasure all of my memories of Mother and Reilah, and the times when I could be with Father. I still use everything I learned as a child. The hunting, the tracking, how to live in the woods... The memories of Ithki and... and her... are bittersweet to say the least. I miss the suns in the tribe even still.



16. What is your earliest memory?


Well... Let me think. I remember Mother singing to me to help me sleep. I remember Reilah crying a lot, she was just an infant.



17. How much schooling have you had?


Schooling? I never went to a school. Mother and sometimes even Father would teach me all the things I needed to know, like writing and reading. They always stressed that it was important to know. I remember Reilah would always ask so many questions that I'm fairly certain Mother didn't have the answers for... those days were so simple. I miss them.



18. Did you enjoy school?


I didn't always enjoy having to sit and learn the things Mother would teach. Sometimes I just wanted to play. I wanted to practice my archery, I wanted to hunt. But I did enjoy those times, even if I didn't realize it back then.



19. Where did you learn most of your skills and other abilities?


It was... her... Well, not everything. Mother taught me to string a bow, to notch an arrow, to aim and where to put the arrow to drop the beast with one shot. She taught me to sing and to play her instruments. But it was... it was her.. Nakko... who really worked me into shape. I can't believe I owe my skills to her. She was the one who taught me how to fight. Not just hunt...



20. While growing up, did you have any role models? If so, describe them.


Why do all of these questions keep making me talk about her? Yes, she was my mentor and my role model. I looked up to Nakko so much... I wanted her strength, her skill, her beauty even. The way I remember her isn't like the way I've seen her recently. She was strong, tall, and confident... She was strict and firm, giving you no mercy when she knew you didn't need it. She bordered on cruel at times, but she was never heartless or uncaring. She knew what it took to be truly strong, and I couldn't possibly have respected her any more than I did. I don't know what changed her, or if it wasn't a change, but just an act... but... nevermind. Next question, please.



21. While growing up, how did you get along with the other members of your family?


We all got along very well. Reilah and I were as close as sisters could be. The two of us always gave Mother a headache after her hunts, but we never gave her too many problems. It was always a treat to get an evening with Father, and sometimes Reilah and I would fight over his attention. Just another day for a male, I suppose.



22. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?


The best huntress in the tribe. The most desirable mate for the males... The same things all the little girls wanted.



23. As a child, what were your favorite activities?


Attending the Lover's Blessing festivals in the village, going to the markets with mother, and playing with Ithki.


24. As a child, what kinds of personality traits did you display?


As a little girl I was really quiet and shy. I suppose not that much has changed. I know I was a bit jealous when it came to Ithki and the other girls, but I always tried to keep that to myself.



25. As a child, were you popular? Who were your friends, and what were they like?


Popular? Not at all. The small shy girl doesn't usually get noticed much. It wasn't until I was around 13 or 14 cycles that I began to earn some respect from the other girls. But popularity? No, I never had that. My best friends were my sister and Ithki. I don't think I can count Nakko, nor would I want to.



26. When and with whom was your first kiss?


My first kiss was a long time ago, in the village one night with Ithki. It... it wasn't really out of love, though. I think Ithki was just seeing how my kiss compared to the other girls who would one day be his mates.



27. Are you a virgin? If not, when and with whom did you lose your virginity?


I have to answer this? No, I'm not a virgin... It was the first man I fell for after losing my tribe. He was strong and influential, powerful and commanding. He was the biggest jerk I've ever met, and I was completely in love with him. His name was Oskar Helvig.

I'm not sure I understand the question. I'm just a normal Miqo'te girl. I've listed the people that have shaped me into who I am today. My training under Nakko, losing my tribe, my time in Everwatch, and the things Nakko has done since... all make me do the things I do now.


Part 3: Past Influences


29. What do you consider the most important event of your life so far?


Important? I suppose the attack on the Onai tribe village. If that hadn't happened, I'd still be there. I'd be one of Ithki's mates, I'd be leading the hunts, and I may have had three or four children by now.



30. Who has had the most influence on you?


My mother, for sure.



31. What do you consider your greatest achievement?


That depends... Can murder be considered great? I suppose the fruits of my training, the skills I've been perfecting... It's an achievement that I've become someone who can possibly make a difference.



32. What is your greatest regret?


I regret being a poor judge of character. It's the cause of nearly all of my problems on some level. My single greatest regret is probably my rash and impetuous decision to bring an innocent child into this world at the worst of times.



33. What is the most evil thing you have ever done?


Murder... not for self defense, not for the greater good of the Twelveswood... just cold blooded murder.


34. Do you have a criminal record of any kind?


No.



35. When was the time you were the most frightened?


The night when I lost my tribe.


36. What is the most embarrassing thing ever to happen to you?


I'm... not really sure. I think Oskar's treatment of me after I betrayed his trust was very humiliating.



37. If you could change one thing from your past, what would it be, and why?


This isn't easy to answer. If I changed one thing, so much would be different now.  I think I regret the method and the point in time I choose to have Ithki.



38. What is your best memory?


Any of the nights when Mother, Father, Reilah and myself were all home together.  They didn't happen often enough.



39. What is your worst memory?


Watching my tribe burn all around me.  This memory was only made more painful with the knowledge that I was intentionally spared.

40. Are you basically optimistic or pessimistic?


Outwardly, I always try to be happy.  I always try to smile.  Outwardly I think I am as positive as I can be.

That those I love will forget about me someday.

I follow Menphina the Lover, as my tribe did before me.  Lately it's been difficult to keep any kind of religious faith alive.



43. What are your political views?


The policies and practices of those outside of the Twelveswood don't concern me in the slightest.  Here, the Elementals are the leaders.  Yet...  I don't even follow their wishes anymore.  



44. What are your views on sex?


It's natural.  It's normal to want it and to have it.  



45. Are you able to kill? Under what circumstances do you find killing to be acceptable or unacceptable?


...yes.  This world is harsh and cruel, the Twelveswood is wounded and suffering.  I don't like hurting people.  I don't enjoy committing murder.  But if my hand is forced, I'm through hesitating.  I used to want to preserve all life but...  but mercy has never gotten me anywhere with my enemies.



46. In your opinion, what is the most evil thing any human being could do?


Slaughter someone's entire family, rip their infant son from their life, lead them around by the nose chasing rumors, and then forcing that person to take lives or risk losing everything they care about forever.

No.  I don't think the world has room for such things.  Hearts and feelings are fickle and fleeting.  Love can change like the wind.

True happiness.  Contentment.  That is achieved in different ways for different people.  But it's all I want in life.

Is anyone completely honest about their feelings?  No, I'm not honest with my feelings at all.  It's even worse now than it used to be.  I'm holding so much inside, I fear I might burst, and let it all out at the wrong time.  I always try to look happy, I try to smile and pretend everything is fine.  I used to be good at it.  So good that I believed it myself.  But no longer.

No, I don't think I do...  I suppose I'm more comfortable around my own kind.  Yet it's my own kind I hate the most right now.  The more traditional of the Wildwood Elezen still make by tail bristle with frustration.  But that's something my grandmother felt more than I do.



51. Is there anything you absolutely refuse to do under any circumstances? Why do you refuse to do it?


No.  I'm far past the point of no return.  If it means finding what was taken from me, I would do anything.  What ever it takes...

My son.  My mate has sacrificed so much for me, I would do the same for him as well.

I try and treat everyone I talk to politely.  Strangers have always made me a bit nervous, and the more I know someone the more open and friendly I can be.  I've found my temper has gotten shorter, my patience is a little more thin...  I don't want that to be the case, but it is.  I don't shy away from confrontation any more, either.



54. Who is the most important person in your life, and why?


Ithki, my son, is the most important person in my life.  My moments alone are filled with only thoughts of him and his well being.



55. Who is the person you respect the most, and why?


I have always respected Lady Eva.  Her wisdom and insight are what I've wished I had for the last three cycles.  Lady Eva has wisdom, grace, beauty and a kind heart.  I used to think I could be like her, some sun.  I've gone so far off that path, she would be disgusted if... or when... she finds out.



56. Who are your friends? Do you have a best friend? Describe these people.


My friends...  My friends are Nel and Isilme Turuphant, and it had only been them for so many cycles.  Miya as well, is a newer friend. I thought I had lost everyone else.  I've found old friends again and made a few new ones.  Keisuna and Shiro, well, I hope I can call Shiro a friend.  Lady Eva and Aysun, too.  Selene was an old friend of mine, but I haven't seen her since the day I left Eorzea.  i consider all my allies from Everwatch my friends.  My best friend?  Kailee...  I hope you're out there somewhere.  I miss you.



57. Do you have a spouse or significant other? If so, describe this person.


Yes, I have Nahue.  He’s my mate.  He’s a Seeker of the Sun that I met on Menphina’s Breath.  We have grown close, close enough to endure some pretty hard times.  He’s really kind and has always been loving and supportive.  He’s lost a great deal thanks to me, and he’s still with me.



58. Have you ever been in love? If so, describe what happened.


I want to say yes, but I’m not really so sure.  I thought I was in love when I was young and still in the tribe.  I wasn’t.  I thought I was in love with Oskar, and I’ve been trying to tell myself I wasn’t ever since.  And now I believe I’m in love with Nahue, but I obviously don’t know what love really is, so now I’m hesitant.



59. What do you look for in a potential lover?


I don’t really have any criteria I check for.  I just let the Lover guide me see where she takes me.  It hasn’t always been to the best places, but...  maybe it’s all a trial I need to face.



60. How close are you to your family?


Every sun feels like I’m one step closer to joining them in eternal rest.  It’s not a question I can answer in the present tense.  I have a sworn sister in Nel, but we aren’t related by blood.

I did.  I tried to anyway.  It was just myself, little Ithki, and Nahue.  I started a family because my sworn sister had done so, and it really made me want a little one of my own.

I /am/ desperate.  I do need help.  And I have no idea who to turn to.  I don’t want anyone else I care about to get dragged into this.  No one else must get hurt because of me.

Protect me?  The Lover, maybe...  No, that isn’t even true.  I can only trust skills and my steel.  I have a few loved ones who would protect me, but I just can’t bring them into my problems.  I know Nel, and especially Isilme would protect me if I let them.

For a while, no one would know.  This is my own fault for always being out in the Twelveswood.  Nahue would morne, I know he would miss me.  Other than him...  likely just Nel and Isilme, and Miya as well. I don’t see anyone else missing me very much.

Nakko...  She’s taken everything important from me.  Her life will be the last one I ever take.  I swear it.

I used to, yes.  I used to only care about being friends with everyone.  I wanted nothing more than for everyone to like me.  Not anymore...  I haven’t the time to fuss over such things, and I don’t have the patience for people that want to argue.

Absolutely not.  I have some experience with leadership, but not in any kind of purely social situation.

Again, no.  Not at all.  I prefer the quiet evenings of the Twelveswood with a few close friends than a large group of people with a lot of social interacting.  I hate crowds.

No, I’ve tried to drink several times, and I just don’t enjoy any aspect of it.  It tastes awful, it makes me feel awful, and it dulls my senses.  I just don’t see the interest...  the complete obession...  with drinking.  I don’t really know much about drug use.  Oskar offered me something once, but I turned it down.

The individual suns of the week don’t really matter to me.  I’d be doing the same thing as any other eve.

Someone with a great deal of wit.  Children playing.  Nel somehow not knowing how awful her cooking is.

Anyone loudly stating a blatant disregard for the Twelvewood.  People who think there is no difference between the Seekers and the Keepers.  People who insult traditional Keeper culture.

Mostly by letting it quietly build up inside until it bursts out all at once and all at the wrong time.  It’s not something I’m good at handling yet.



82. Are you spontaneous, or do you always need to have a plan?


I /like/ having a plan...  I try to have a plan...  But there are many times when I just don’t have time for a plan.



83. What are your pet peeves?


People who assume I'm weak just because of my appearance.  People who are rude or unfriendly with no apparent reason.  Limsa Lominsa accents.    



Part 7: Self Images And Etc.



84. Describe the routine of a normal day for you. How do you feel when this routine is disrupted?


I usually awaken in the early evening, sometimes the late afternoon if I have things I need to do in the city.  I'll get myself ready.  I do the usual things like bathe, brush and braid my hair, get dressed and have something to eat.  If I have any pressing matters in Gridania, this is when I'll do them.  If not, I'll try and spend time with Nahue, if he isn't busy in his workshop.  When night falls, I'll normally head for the Twelveswood, change my clothes, and make my rounds.  I watch the woods when the Wailer shifts are at their lightest.  Unless I have a lead.  If I have something to go on, or if I find a group of them... of poachers, then my routine is altered.  Sometimes I'm excited and hopeful, but most times it's fear and anger that weigh on me when this routine is disrupted.




85. What is your greatest strength as a person?


I would say my greatest strength is having the determination to do whatever needs to be done to protect my home and loved ones.



86. What is your greatest weakness?


Always running from my past, and pretending like it never happened.



87. If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be?


I want to be a great judge of character.  I want to be less naive.  I think changing that would have prevented a lot of my greatest mistakes from happening.



88. Are you generally introverted or extroverted?


Most of the time I'm quiet and keep to myself.  I don't like to bother people and that habit has caused people to think I dislike or don't care, and that's not the case at all.



89. Are you generally organized or messy?


I wouldn't call myself organized at all... So I suppose I'd fall into the messy category.  I'm not /that/ messy though.



90. Name three things you consider yourself to be very good at, and three things you consider yourself to be very bad at.


I'm good at archery.  I'm getting very good at tracking, stalking, moving silently...  And I'm good at mur....  I'm good at hunting.  Hunting more than just beasts...


I'm bad at magicks...  all kinds.  I'm bad at making those who care about me happy.  I'm also terrible at virtually every aspect sailing.  Even simply being a passenger on a ship.



91. Do you like yourself?


Somedays I can fake it.  I like certain things about myself...  Certain frivolous, useless things...  But generally, no.  Not right now, I don't.



92. What are your reasons for being an adventurer (or doing the strange and heroic things that RPG characters do)? Are your real reasons for doing this different than the ones you tell people in public? (If so, detail both sets of reasons…)


I am not an adventurer at least, not right now, and I am certainly not a hero.  A hero could have saved the ones closest to them.  I do the things I do because I feel I have no choice.  And of course I wouldn’t tell people all the details of my situation.  No one wants things like this dumped in their lap, whether its from a friend or not.   When I have to talk about my time in the Twelveswood, I say that it’s for the good of the forest.  It’s not a lie, the woods are wounded and I am removing threats.



93. What goal do you most want to accomplish in your lifetime?


I have a noble, selfless goal that I tell people I’m trying to reach.  That goal is to heal the wounds the Twelveswood received when the red moon fell.  My personal, selfish goal, is to find my little boy, and take my revenge from Nakko.



94. Where do you see yourself in 5 years?


I /want/ to see myself at home with Ithki and maybe even Nahue, just being a family together.  I see myself training Ithki to string a bow, to fire a bow, to skin his hunted game... I just want to be with him and see him grow...



95. If you could choose, how would you want to die?


I want to die as a wise old woman after watching my grandchildren take up the hunt in my place.



96. If you knew you were going to die in 24 hours, name three things you would do in the time you had left.


I would make sure Nahue knew how much I loved and appreciated everything he’s done for me.  I would pray to Menphina to guide my last hours.  And finally I would seek out any member of the Shlaivan tribe and beg them to take me to Nakko.  I’d beg her and offer my life for just one chance to see Ithki again before I die.  If that doesn’t work, I would take as many of the damned beast slaughterers with me as possible.



97. What is the one thing for which you would most like to be remembered after your death?


If I’m remembered at all, I’d be content with that.  I’d like to be remembered as someone who did all they could to protect their kin and their home.



98. What three words best describe your personality?


Shy, Polite, Determined.



99. What three words would others probably use to describe you?


Naive...  treehugger...  and...  obsessed?  Maybe?



100. If you could, what advice would you, the player, give to your character? (You might even want to speak as if he or she were sitting right here in front of you, and use proper tone so he or she might heed your advice…)


Manari, you’ve been put through some difficult times thanks to the five year gap.  I think it’s important that you never give up hope, never fall into despair, never let these events ruin the rest of your life, and never completely shut out those who care about you.  Remember to trust in yourself and your friends.  You have the ability to see this through, maybe not alone, but with those who care.  I know your mind is in a dark place right now, but please don’t let it over take who you are, the Manari that everyone knows.
