Sassaroth Origins: Spark of life, part 1 [Closed] - sassaroth - 07-31-2010

A crystal blue sky spread across the horizon. Small storm clouds played sportingly over the sea. A small village upon the shores of Limsa Lominsa rest in simple peace. A boy no older then 14 watched the gentle waves cut small eddies around his feet. His dark blue hair rested in relaxed curls around his shoulders. The boys blue eyes focused upon his fishing pole hoping for the next bite. He was in no hurry and enjoyed the time to sit and watch the contest upon the sea. His tanned skin was yet to show signs of weathering from the simple life of the fisherman, but there was a look on his face that spoke of a budding knowledge of the sea.

Sassaroth sighed deeply and smiled. He watched with some interest as the clouds flashed brightly from internal power and just as suddenly went dark. He was too far away to hear the rumbling, but he imagined great gods sparing on misty war-chocos over the claim of the sky.

An errant bolt shot forth from the cloud and hit the sea. This was not unusual. Sometimes the gods miss. Another bolt flew towards the land and struck a few miles to his left. Though this was unusual, it was still not impossible. He had heard tales of bolts of light traveling great distances to suddenly fall to earth and strike. He imagined a life to those sparks, almost intelligent. Sassaroth shook his head of such day dreams. His pole was tugging in his hands. With a practiced move Sassaroth stood and braced the fighting fish at the end of the line. With a grunt of effort Sassaroth pulled hard on the line giving a small grin. It was a big one, and tonight, dinner might have enough for a second helping. Da and ma will be proud.

The line suddenly snapped tipping Sassaroth backwards into the sand. He stood and frowned. He had forgotten to get his spare hook and would waste time fetching it from the hut. So much for second helpings. He turned away from the sea and begin to walk away. As he took a few steps from the shore a white light surrounded his body, and then darkness. He heard no sound, felt no pain, only dark.

Sassaroth opened his eyes to find himself in bed and barley able to see. Burly people loomed over head speaking in odd vowels. As he concentrated on seeing and hearing the pain of his body flared to life. It was intense like a fire burning inside him. The darkness embraced him and sucked him back into the void. He woke again able to see and hear. The pain had subsided from a over consuming fire to now a dull pain.

“Ma he's came around!” A frantic voice from his side spoke. His da smiled down with concern in his eyes. “Son can you hear me, are you alright.”

Sassaroth tried to sit up only to have the room buckle under him. “Yeah da, but I be a bit dizzy, what happen?”

“Oh deary, you were hit by a bolt of god light. You be lucky to be breathin'” His ma said in her salty sailor speech. She had been a serving wench for many a year before she met and settled with his father, a simple farmer. Her way of talking always brought a smile to da. Sassaroth picked up the speech when he was young but been slowly growing out of it as he spent more time fishing with da. “You be up in bed for three days deary.”

Sassaroth was shocked. Three days he was out? He looked down to see that his once tanned skin was an eerie white. His head was wrapped in cloth but as his ma unwound it small amounts of hair fell out. His ma and da gasped. He grabbed a piece of shined shell and looked at his reflection. His once black hair was now a pale white. He had heard this happens at times with victims that go through a shock in life, he didn't imagine it would be so literal.

His head felt funny and the world seemed out of place. Like everything was subtly changed while he was asleep. Whatever it was, Sassaroth felt a need to know. He needed to know what happen and what would be next. In the next few years, his life would change and never be the same.
