Wow, that's a lot of content! I really need to do my final push to 50 and probably should start looking for the right FC to better experience it.

Well now, I'm chomping at the bit for these new hair styles. 
I greatly dislike all the short styles for the Miqo'te. I'd love to see my little charrie with long loose hair instead of it being thrown back into a ponytail with loose bangs.

Is the Aesthetician half-Elezen? He has smaller pointed ears with Hyur proportions.

I thought the same thing until I went back and rewatched it. I had thought his face looked strange for a Hyur, but didn't really go much deeper than that.

They show an Elezen with that hairstyle while teasing the system, and the face the NPC has is in fact an Elezen face. He also has incredibly long arms, so I'm going to assume he's just an Elezen. The hairstyle merely threw me off personally, since it was originally Hyur only.

I'm just glad I can finally rearrange my hair style and facial hair now! The snow hair looks pretty cool, probably gonna rock it for the first few months.

Though what really caught my eye is this little gem pictured here with track pad paint skills.

It looks like there's going to be various skills of PvP based on Free Companies and your job. What I want to know is what do the diamonds mean? Are they a point buy style system where you have x amount and each power costs this or is it just how powerful they are against players?

Hmm interesting, the Maelstrom is the highlighted Grand company under "PVP" So perhaps there is a GC-PVP action tie in?

The bar along the bottom of the panel outlines that you can have a max of 10 "pvp" abilities, the scroll bar and 4 non-selected abilities show that there might be quite a few.

The Diamonds are curious, I thought they might be based on your rank, each diamond being one major rank up, but because they're not in order i'm hesitant to place much weight behind the idea..

It doesn't appear to be tied to the ability type, 2 diamond "Glory smash" and 3 Diamond "Skewer" both sound like 'attack' abilities. Maybe some kind of resource PVP related that is consumed upon their usage? like a combo bar filled up in fighting games?

Hrm..

I meant to type Grand Companies of course. Mind thinking one thing you mean another.

The resource thing makes alotta since. I was thinking more it was of a power scale thing my self. I'm just a wee bit scared of the balancing if certain moves are only on certain GCs

You can always change your Grand Company, get the skill, then change back. Assuming it works the same way as gear does now.

If you look though, the maelstrom has a highlight around it unlike the other two, while we don't know for certain i'd think it limits you to one or the others while you PvP... maybe?

Or perhaps you have different selection pages and you just have to unlock each and can pull from the whole pool..

My guess is the GC you're currently aligned with is the one you're fighting for and you buy/upgrade ((if implemented)) your moves at a Wolves Den Adder/Maelstorm/Flames vendor ether with seals or special currency.

FYI, they're going to be doing a full 24 hours of maintenance to set the patch up.  Looks like it's from Midnight PST Dec. 16 to Midnight PST Dec. 17.

I’m happy to announce that the long awaited first major update “A Realm Awoken” will be released on Dec. 17, 2013. 

In addition to the update, we are planning to make major updates to the data centers. Therefore, we have will be conducting a 24 hour maintenance (maximum) starting from Dec. 16, 2013. Since the maintenance period is so long, let me take a moment to breakdown what we are planning to do. 

- Dispersing the Server Load and Making the World Selection Screen More User-Friendly

Currently, we are operating with data centers (which consists of numerous servers) set up for Japan, North America/Europe. 
As of now, players will need to access either one of these data centers before they obtain the World list. However, due to the large number of players that access the data centers, a lot of stress is put on the “lobby servers” which causes the error “Unable to obtain the World list” to appear frequently. 

Considering the additional Worlds that we are planning to implement with the release of the game on Steam and PlayStation 4, we would like to address this matter as soon as possible. In order to decrease the frequency of the “Unable to obtain the World list” error as much as possible, we will be splitting the Worlds in to smaller groups for each data center and making each of the data centers more independent. This whole process should result in a smoother login process and also make it easier for us to quickly enhance the servers when necessary. 

- Changing the Number of Instances Assigned to Content with Patch 2.1

As I mentioned previously in the Letter from the Producer LIVE events and Topics, a large number of content will be added in patch 2.1. 
Party/Alliance content in FFXIV is structured in a way that several hundred instances can be running at the same time. As you may know, we have been continuously making adjustments to the maximum number of concurrent instances. However, with the large variety of content that will be added in patch 2.1, we will be drastically changing the number of instances assigned to each content (this includes assigning additional instances to the Binding Coil of Bahamut). 

Other than that, we will be making various adjustments such as tweaking how the players are matched via Duty Finder and replacing server equipment in order to improve the user-friendliness of the game. 

Please note that while we stated that the maintenance will take a maximum of 24 hours, we will be working around the clock so that we can release the patch 2.1 to the public as soon as possible. 

Due to the vast amount of tasks that we will be performing, the maintenance period will be much longer than usual. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

Please refer to the information below for details on the maintenance period.

Maintenance Period

At the following time, we will be performing maintenance on all Worlds. Maintenance will consist of various tasks such as splitting the Worlds in to smaller groups for the Japanese and North American/European data centers and replacing server equipment. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn will be unavailable.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your understanding.

* The World transfer service will be suspended 15 minutes before maintenance begins, and will be unavailable until maintenance has ended.
