Hullo there! - Pip - 02-15-2014

I am brand new to FFXIV and still trying to gauge whether it's the right place for me. So far, I'm enjoying the gameplay aspect quite a bit. Now I need to figure out what the RP side of life looks like.

My MMO resume goes from WoW to City of Heroes (still my favorite) to Aion to Champions Online to The Secret World. I'm still varying degrees of active in TSW and CO. I got started RPing in CoH and have kept at it since. I like a medium to heavy experience - balanced between enjoying the game as a game and as a world - and have learned to absolutely love consequences in RP. My  favorite experiences also usually involve blending in-game with forum-based stuff. Literacy for the win and all that rot.

I found this place by googling "ffxiv rp". It's been very useful so far just for reading up on lore and the community. I'm currently mulling over a potential character, though he's still somewhat hazy while I get my bearings in a VERY different setting than I'm used to. He's a Duskwight (which based on what I've read suffers from something of a lore vacuum) who left the Shroud for <reasons> and discovered (or merely began feeding) a passion for learning and the arcane arts. Knowledge for knowledge's sake. Neverending quest to know all the things. Strong enough to overcome his general disinterest in speaking to sentient beings.

I think that covers most of the suggested data. I'm eager to see what all is out there!

Greetings Pip! And welcome to the RPC and Eorzea at large.

Good to hear you're already immersed in the game to some extent and have some experience under your belt. Having a good idea of what you're looking for in a community and in the game itself I think helps prevent that general milling about [that while can present its own opportunities, can also leave people feeling.. "bland" for lack of a better term.]

I've got a few links i'd like to share with you, a Welcome post to the whole of the RPC, a RP handbook and two communities that are fairly "steady" among the RPC. As a note neither of them are IC or roleplay based, that being such a personal thing I don't really think it appropriate to nudge one ahead of the other but anyways~

This is the mentioned welcome post that covers a few of the primary resources here at the RPC, including the wiki, lantern, forums and the like. You did how ever mention a lore vacuum so a few links for that might be helpful [though there are a great deal of forum posts on varying things and the discussions are very fruitful, I like to cross reference with some of the following sources.]

[A particularly interesting story being: http://gamerescape.com/2013/08/21/the-rise-and-fall-of-the-white-raven/ ]

But onwards! It sounds like you have quite a bit of RP experiance so you might just want to skim this next link, maybe pick up some Eorzea specific situations that you might like to know how other people work into their narrative.

Evas RP handbook really is quite something, make sure to use the index at the top if you'd like to skip over some of the more general notes.

Now the communities...

"Intermission" is a great open grouping of roleplayers from across Balmung who are interested in many different types and styles of roleplay, but in this LS you can also just end up talking about.. well pretty much anything..

Or maybe you'd like to get some dungeons done, another great way to forge some bonds with people, farm so gear or just get some tomes for trading in.

"Balmungs Finest" prioritizes grouping on Balmung before resorting to the Duty or Party finder and is comprised [like intermission] of all sorts of players.

I hope that helps give you an idea of whats out there waiting for you, as always feel free to ask any questions, voice any concerns, maybe hop into the forums and nose around the ongoing discussions.

Twelve knows there's plenty to do out there, hope to see you in Eorzea, always nice to see another Duskwight Cactuar

You caught my eye because my best friend growing up was named Pip. Welcome to Balmung. If you wish to, your character sounds as though he would mesh well with mine as a friend, as Erik is rather cool tempered and well educated. I would find it delicious if my IC Erik had a friend named Pip. Wanna give it a go, and be friends?

RE: Hullo there! - Pip - 02-18-2014

That is, by far, the single best reason I have ever heard for two characters to be friends. Naturally, I'd be delighted to give it a go. Sounds like the perfect impetus to actually sit down and figure out what Pip's like in a conversation.

And also what people wear to RP. I've been spoiled by aesthetically irrelevant gear, modern settings, and superhero games with billion-possibility costume creators.

Welcome to the game, Pip!

Keee...that IS a fun name to say, though.  XD

Anyway. glad to hear (read) that the game appeals as a game.  Here's hoping you have fun on the RP side of things.  If you ever want to talk to a tree-like femRoe, feel free to give me a poke!  :3

Thanks! I am only minorly embarrassed at how long it took me to decipher 'femRoe'. Still unsure about 'keee'...

Your name is Pip, you instantly get like a hundred win points or something! Such a simple but great name.
