Chocobo Lifecycle - Ryvorn - 03-18-2014

Hey everyone!

I've been trying to find information about the life cycle of a chocobo and their training, history stuff for my character. But I can't find anything concrete.

I know Egg>Chick>Adolescent>Adult

But I was wondering time lines and things. Do Chocobos undergo a similar training plan as horses? I used to work at a horse stables, which attracts me to a chocobo raising character as my first steps into RP.

Egg = Embryo
Chick = New born
Adolescent = Colt
Adult = Horse

Baby horses I would say go from New Born to Colt in about a week or two. I would define it as them being adventurous enough to move at least 6 feet from their mums.

Typically a colt would run free and do horse things with horses and learning things with other colts (if possible) for about 3 years before they start to train them to be ridden.

Do you think Chocobos are similar? That they hang out in the fields with other chocobos until their breaking time for their staddles and harness?

Then of course as an adult they undergo combat training in some cases.

I'd like to build a solid understanding of the Chocobo's life cycle and training so I can incorporate it into my character/

Looking into ostrich domestication might give you an idea of how it might apply to chocobos. I don't know anything about the training of ostriches for riding but I do have some information on the life cycle of an ostrich.(I'm not an ostrich farmer... just a fountain of useless information Tongue)

Lifespan: 30-70 years
Maturity: 2-4 years; females reach maturity sooner than males
Incubation period: around 45 days
chicks wander from parents roughly a week after hatching
chicks are independent around 3-4 months of age
chicks are adolescents and almost fully grown around 6 months of age

I think modelling a chocobo off an ostrich if there's nothing official is probably the best way to do this. I was actually doing it already on my chocobo breeder dragoon character. Tongue

I think ostrich would be more accurate, too.

Also, (not to be mean, but trying to help you learn) the child of a horse is called a foal, if it's male, it's a colt, if it's female, it's a filly.  Smile
