((Just some OOC clarification, Revan, the man you saw earlier, did not go the same way that the old man had taken you. He doesn't even know of the hidden passages just yet. Most of the escaped prisoners had caused a riot and were moving through the halls below, while Revan moved to the watchtower stairs to ascend to the top. The Old man, was informed by Daishi's character that there was a secret way out of this prison, and so the old man and Nikkita should technically be alone, just the two of them. Anyway, thought you might wanted the clarification as to what is just going on at the moment, I know forum RP can be hard to follow at times!))

The old man looked back at the young woman behind him and had shaken his head slowly. "...No, I go this way only in faith, child. But fate has offered us a chance at freedom, and so I intend to take this path, as there are no others to take... Following that... horde of barbarians below would surely lead to death..."

The old man continued further, as they descended further down the tightly enclosed stairs, the steps became steeper, almost turning this path into a ladder. The air became cooler and thicker as they came closer and closer to the bottom.

She repressed a smirk on the "on faith comment".

"So we have nothing but a guard's word to go on?"

"Well I'll hope the guard genuiely wanted this old man to escape...and hold off on judgement..." she thought in irritation as the stairs became steep.

"We seem to be getting deeper..." she shivered slightly at the dampness. She hated the wet.

As they reached the bottom, the walls no longer looked like built foundation, but instead, natural cave patterns. They must've been beneath the fortress. It was dimly lit, which meant there must be some sort of light source beyond the narrow passage they were now in. The old man inched forward, slowly, hardly able to see in the darkness of the caves. "...This... this must be the way out..." the old man said with a reluctant voice.

Nikkita frowned peering toward the dim light ahead around the old man. She wasn't exactly thrilled with going underground since the idea of a secret passage leading to an exit didn't seem exactly logical to her. Unarmed with nothing other than her wits, she had nothing to focus magic with or even a simple club, she was at somewhat of a disadvantage if there was something other than an exit ahead.

As they came closer to the great open lit cavern, a huge opening could be seen. It was a cove that lead to the coast, however the ground level was flooded with water that rose and fell with the waves and tide. The old man peered downward at the very narrow path that wound down the cave wall below (roughly 100-150 feet) The man grimaced as he glanced down, even if he could make it to the bottom, he wasn't a capable swimmer, but he edged forward anyway, not wanting to lose all hope just yet. "...this, is the exit?" It was likely an old way to transport prisoners gathered from outside lands into the prison. Likely, this was the very same place Revan was brought through three years ago when he first arrived to this prison, though he likely was blindfolded when they did bring him through.

Revan's eyes remain coldly fixed upon "Kane" glancing behind him very quickly at the Ballista once more intently. He remains in a defensive stance, waiting for Kane to respond or make a move against him.

The bellowing roar that burst from the lungs of the large brute known as Guytrain the Guillotine reverberated through the halls of the prison, even over the sound of battle, as he spied the conspicuous route that prisoners had obviously used to filter out of the walls of the citadel.

"SOMEONE gave this location away, and now we have PRISONERS ON THE RUN," he belted, his voice shaking the steel of the men about him as he shoved his massive frame into the narrow passage, the brick overhead cracking as his steeled head and shoulders burst against them, his body pushing against the roof as he attempted to force his way in. Unable to, he pulled out, grunting in frustration. "Jagrath!" he shouted, turning aside. It was his lieutenant, one of the few that he put true confidence in. The smaller framed soldier was nevertheless still an intimidating mass of muscle, simply less so than Guytrain. At his hands were two leashes, the ends of which held back two vicious looking Raptors.

"Jagrath, take some men into the tunnel." His eyes went upwards, to the roof. "I think we have a traitor in our midst."

Jagrath nodded, looking aside to several of the guards, armored and weapons ready. "You three, with me. Let's get these prisoners."

A round of affirmatives met the order as Jagrath took the lead, racing down the tunnel, his grip on the Raptors loosening as he readied to set them free entirely. They'd track down their quarry, oh yes. Meanwhile, in the room behind, Guytrain began to lumber out into one of the greater halls, his mammoth Great Sword in hand. A few straggling prisoners were caught in his wrath, and received a single, well placed cut that tore through several of them. Guytrain growled as he began to work his way to the stairs, his pace increasing, a rear guard of a dozen men keeping pace as he began to work the long rout up to the highest chambers of the citadel.

Meanwhile, far above, Kain sniffed the air a moment, smiling underneath his mask. He let the steel head of his weapon fall, slinging across his calf and close to the floor. He took a weak step, shoulders shrugged, then suddenly burst forward. His footsteps crossed the difference between himself and Revan in a matter of moments, his Great Axe skying upwards with tremendous force. The agile Revan stretched backwards, the blade of the weapon skimming an inch from his chest, then was forced to take a giant leap back as Kain continued the arc of his swing, the axe moving 360 degrees and this time nearly taking Revan across the belly.

Revan had lept backwards in time, his rear foot bracing against the back wall before pushing forward, thrusting at Kain, its sharpened tip edging in towards his jaw. Kain turned his face aside, Revan taking a half arc with his weapon that streaked towards Kain's ribs. Kain turned aside, bringing his axe close to his body as he was forced to the floor in order to avoid the deadly strike. He rolled away just as Revan began taking two steps, flying forward, the blade bearing directly upon Kain. The masked man brought his Great Axe upwards, using the handle to block the blade and then turning it aside with an upward thrust. He reared his legs back to his chest and thrust upward, pushing Revan back with a forceful kick before quickly moving onto his own feet. Revan cross distance again, feigning a high strike before slicing low. The strike cut close to Kain's knee, who only barely lifted his leg in time, pushing down with a stomp of his foot that put the edge of the blade to the stone floor.

In the open moment Kain pushed forward with the grip of his axe, turning the blunt end upwards in a thrust meant to bludgeon Revan's jaw. The quick warrior contorted his body, turning in a low arc even as he brought the cutting edge of the blade upwards. It led from the floor in an angled cut upwards that Kain felt graze into his side, the experienced warrior grunting as he felt it cut at his side. The volume of the robes had helped take some of the bite out, but as Revan pulled away, Kain couldn't help but take a look at the white robes that formed beneath the brown outer one. A stain of red was forming, though he felt it wasn't too serious. He'd seen enough and been hurt enough to know that.

He lowered his weapon a moment, hand raising to his mask and lifting it just slightly, so that the black layer rose upwards, just over his nose. He exposed his brown skin, his mouth and strong jaw, a slightly pained grin forming on his face.

"Better than I thought. If we were enemies, this would be some fight." His teeth grit a moment as he leaned wrongly, a sudden spark shooting through his side as his eyes moved again to the wound, then to the man. "I wouldn't be surprised if we do this dance again one day, though." He'd been hearing a progressive escalation in noise, and was now resigned to whatever happened in the next few minutes. "Your move."

Revan's eyes narrowed as he had raised the blade to strike down Kain in his moment of respite. It would have been a fatal strike, one to end this once and for all, but the man's words caught Revan off guard. The man's voice brought an uncanny familiarity to Revan's ears and when he resigned aggression, it was clear that Revan's character was being tested. He had to think it over atleast three times in his head before lowering the sword to his side. "...Who are you?" Revan asked with a demanding expression upon his face, his eyes beginning to widen. "...your voice. I know you..." He squints his eyes remembering the nightmare he woke up from. "...you were the man speaking in my dream..." Aggression finally ceased completely in his features. "...the aetheryte... you were the one who freed me." Revan began to piece things together slowly. "...why did you help me?"

As soon as the question was asked voices echoed from the spiraling stairway below, as did the sound of marching soldiers. Revan did not wait for a reply, instead grabbing the rope at his feet and making a noose of sorts, wrapping his hands inside the noose. "...we can die by their swords, or we can take our chances." He stands to the wall, gesturing for the wounded man to come close, as Revan rested a foot on the wall the Balista was hanging out over.

"The force of the bolt might be enough for us to clear the gap.... though I suspect this will likely have painful repercussions." He said looking out to the sea below. "...but I either fall with faith, or I accept death." He said glancing to the stairs. Revan and Kain were both capable fighters, but against trained soldiers, when at incredile odds, defeat was certain. Their only chance was to escape, and there was no going back the way they came. Revan gestured for Kain to wrap his hands in the noose as well.

There was little time, the soldiers would emmerge into the tower any second now.

Nikkita surveyed the water distastefully. It appeared that the only way out would be to dive down and find the place where the tide was coming in at. Thankfully she could swim, though she didn't like to, this was where she had to decide if the old man would be of any use. If not he might be a useful distraction if they found him drowning. It was too bad she had no time, poisons or weapons to make it a properly painful death when the time came though judging by the look of fear on his face perhaps it at least will be terrifying for him.

"Old man, do you know the lay out of the outside? Like where their boats would be kept?"

The old man shook his head as he hurried down the pathway to the water down below. He knew very little, as his years in this prison had been far longer than most who were kept there. Echoing up the path from which they came was the sound of shouting soldiers and guards, likely they were soon to come into view. The man hurries down, and slips down the path falling and hitting his head on the stone earth below him. Blood flows from his head, as he tries to push himself back to his feet.

Jagrath's hands barely held back the tethered Raptors who, snarling and howling, snapped their teeth anticipation of their prey. The armored soldier grinned underneath his steel helmet, the men at his back barely keeping pace as they descended, the stone walls giving way to smooth stone. They were nearing the old port, the ancient method that had been used to bring prisoners into the citadel. Though it had been some time since it had been put to use, it was not so ancient that Jagrath was unfamiliar with it and its layout. Ahead of them, tunnel turned, widening. They were drawing near, and the men at his back were unleashing their blades, the ringing of it echoing outwards into the watery cove.

Far above, Guytrain Bilmari, captain of the guard at the citadel, was closing in on his prey, just a flight or two more above. Though he had no information on who it was, he had his suspicions, and though he had no way to truly know the location of this prey, his instinct for tracking down his prey had always been impeccable.The escort of a dozen men could not be hidden, their boots shaking the stone pathways upward, the halls echoing with the sound of their footsteps. It rose upwards to the watch tower, where Kain and Revan now stood, at an impasse.

Kain's grin had not faded, and he secured the Great Axe to his back. "I've always had a talent with air magic that may provide something of a cushion for this fall," he said, unstrapping the rope at his right glove, a short wooden staff falling forward and into his palm. He secured his hands within the noose while maintaining a firm grip around the rough wood of the staff. "It is either a good day to die, or a good day to survive."

Nikkita heard the guards coming and cursed under her breath. There was no time to properly insure that the old man wouldn't talk so it was a windfall when he fell. Perhaps he wouldn't say anything if he still believed her to be a frightened young woman running away.

Gracefully she hurried down the steps, only slightly slipping twice as ash approached the old man at the bottom.

"You can't swim now and they might be able to help you," she said touching his shoulder as she ran by leaving hime with a sad and pained look over her shoulder. "Stay alive old man.." she said approaching the area where it was easiest to enter the water. The cold of the water nearly took her breath from her lungs, her flimsy prison grab giving her hardly any protection, but she swam out toward the far wall that the tide seemed to be coming from. Her hand on the wall she dove down hoping to find the opening on the first try. Trying to hide in the water in the cave with the guards there would be more difficult.

(Hel pme here I have no idea how deep or if there really is an exit under there she can find.)

((I'll reply tomorrow, as I got work tomorrow so can't spend to much time on this. However, beneath the water about twenty feet below the surface is a submerged dock. The entrance is a giant cave wall gap that ships could pass through. However, the tide has continuously risen over the past couple of years and so it had probably not been used for the past four or five years. (damn you, global warming! xD) You'd likely find the top of it by the light shining through the water, only five feet below the cave wall... and may also explain why the water had a nice emerald glow to it. Within the cave floor could be seen submerged ship parts, and a submerged dock. Some wood planks float on the surface. But yes, the water is crystal clear, and even kind of pretty looking with the sunbeams glowing and reflecting against the bottom of the cave.))
