I mean, I get what you're saying. It makes sense, too, since the Japanese do require fewer characters, as you said. But that begs the question, why make the character limit even smaller than it was in FFXI? The one in XI didn't have any complaints I can think of, so it's almost like trying to "fix" something that wasn't broken to begin with?
Tack on the fact you must type a full name out, and it becomes even more frustrating. Yeah, nicknames are possible to save some characters, but only for people who are your friends. And the name thing goes for everyone, including the Japanese, language differences aside.
