I still need to complete a run as a Malkavian. That's another game that had such brilliance behind it but was hurt in some way by other aspects of the design. I still remember having to download the unofficial patches for it. (02-18-2015, 06:58 PM)Inarah Wrote: Yes! I started playing them rather late, like as in the last four years, and I severely regret not finding the time to do so before. Thank goodness for Gog.com having almost the entire catalog of classics for my buying needs. KoTOR is also love, not sure why I didn't list it on my own list... Hmm... *goes to fix that mistake!* |

I'm pretty much the same way with the Elderscrolls, though I did enjoy Skyrim more than Oblivion - if only because it wasn't Generic Fantasy World #342 anymore, though it suffered from a lot of the same issues. I'd still kill for a Morrowind remake that kept to the spirit of the original. I know people are trying to remake it with Skyrim's art assets, but I'm not sure it'll be the same honestly... ): |

Everything Bethesda and Bioware churned out, plenty of JRPG's, VTMB, Witcher series and a few others.

I am glad so many people like suikoden. I picked up the second game on a whim around the time ff8 came out and suddenly found myself neglecting ff in favor of a decidedly primitive looking 2d game with a silent protagonist. I didn't think an rpg could demand the kind of dedication and respect from me that suikoden did. I've played all of them but 4, which I hear was mediocre, and tactics which is based on 4, as well as the handheld ones which were only nominally suikoden titles. Another series I love is Wild ARMS, for very different reasons, and due to them I always appreciate the very ANIMU practice of playing the opening during the final boss fight...

A hardly comprehensive list in no particular order.
Persona 3/ Persona 4 - high school sim + mystery + fun combat system + funky music and style. These games are awesome. Dark Souls/Dark Souls 2 -Â I've probably sunk something like 1000+ hours between these two. There is something magical and lonely and terrifying about playing them. Tales of the Abyss -Â Most Tales Of games are pretty decent, this one takes the cake. Tales of Graces f -Â The story isn't very mature, but the battle system, characters, and aesthetic is awesome. Tactics Ogre: Let us Cling Together -Â There is no better strategy RPG. The PSP remake of Tactics Ogre unseated Final Fantasy Tactics in my heart forever. This game is awesome. Dragon Quest IV -Â This started the episodic RPG thing. It's simple, it's fun. The Last Story -This game is going to be extremely valuable several years from now once everyone figures out how awesome it is and how hard it is to find. Valkyrie Profile -Â Great battle system, good story, great music. Star Ocean: The Second Story -A lot of fun, the story tends to drag a bit but that battle system and the lovable characters really shine here. Suikoden II - Luca Blight, enough said. Baldur's Gate Trilogy -Â Do I really have to say anything? Jade Empire -Â Bioware's overlooked gem. This game is vastly underrated. Dragon Age: Origins -Â I'm not a big fan of DAII or III, but this game is awesome. I played through it five times. |

I almost forgot about Suikoden. I played the one with Lady Sialeeds in it. I remember it being filled with intrigue!
On that note, since I'm a huge fan of intrigue and difficult decisions in RPG's I'll also add Telltale's The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us and their take on Game of Thrones. Oh, and then there's The Last of Us which is one of my favourite games ever! |

Vagrant story was told in a very different way and had a very intimate, small cast, but also told a good intrigue story. V was an excellent suikoden and probably my second favorite after 2. It draws a lot from the things that made the first two so good. ã€Œè’¼æ°—ç ²ã€ã‚’使ã‚ã–ã‚‹ã‚’å¾—ãªã„!

Wild Arms! With 3 being my favorite chapter!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SvoueEiVyWE One of the characters there, Jet Enduro, is who I named Jet'a Vann after. I love that albino ! (And you can see why I'm so happy to have horses in XIV as well from it)! To be an interesting, intriguing, well-written character, there needs to be something to allow the audience to relate to them. That is what the problem is with who wants their character to be "perfect". Perfect characters will never be strong, and strong characters will never be perfect, because WE (those who read, who watch, who RP) are not perfect.
"What makes a strong character is how they deal with their flaws, their fears, their turmoils, their troubles that get in the way. That's what makes them relatable." -- N.C. |

The lead is a female with no shallow romance defining her, the loner gets a lot of criticism and ridicule for being standoffish, the big guy is a Mage, and the sniper is a pleasant, happily married middle aged man. And everyone had guns. It was brilliant. ã€Œè’¼æ°—ç ²ã€ã‚’使ã‚ã–ã‚‹ã‚’å¾—ãªã„!
