Basic Info

Appearance:Isobeau Mauvaix is a Duskwight Elezen, standing short for her kind, with dark grey skin and black hair cosmetically accented with white, normally worn braided and tied to the back.  She is lithe and long-limbed despite her height, and has more of a dancer's physique and grace that diminishes, for her, the pair-shaped awkward appearance some attribute to elezen women.  Isobeau's most striking feature, however, is the half-masque of a flawless alabaster-like material she wears that covers the entire left side of her face, featureless save for a stylized tear-shaped diamond placed near the inner corner of the left-eye socket,  The socket of the masque itself is dark, and the eye not visible within.  Her observable almond-shaped amber eye and expressive thick-lipped mouth on the exposed right side work in stark contrast to the solemn guise of the left.  The right eye is also accentuated with white markings that coil out above and below the socket (the purpose or significance of the mark to her, if any, is currently unknown.).

History

Though most of her history still remains unexposed, there may be some who have lived in the same region as Isobeau that know her to be a native of Eorzea.  They may also say that she spent almost all of her youth underground, following her father and the rest of the family clan as they explored ever deeper in pursuit of ore and other subterranean treasures.  In addition to marketing raw materials to the various Guilds and merchants, Clan Mauvaix also produced manufactured wares; bracelets, baubles and bangles, rings for nose and ears, necklaces of some fine quality, etc...mostly created by her Grand-pere, to whom she was apprenticed, but sometimes those sold were crafted by Isobeau herself.

Barely into her mid-teens at the time events played out upon Carteneau Flats (and thus having taken no part in them), the Calamity did not fail to reach her as well.  Nymeia wove a fickle fate for Isobeau that night as Bahamut rained fire and destruction over the surface of Eorzea, as it is said she lost all that she was and gained all that she is in one fell swoop.

Personality and Mannerisms

Were one to stand and eavesdrop on Isobeau's conversation, they would find her not without humor, though it can be taken as dry, sarcastic, and snarky on occasion.  In fact, Isobeau appears to be surprisingly light and airy for the normally dour Duskwights, though can be seen to slip into periods of extended silence. Some may have difficulty with reading the deeper meaning of Isobeau's commentary, due to her facial cues being partially obscured by the masque, and this can have the tendency to cause conflict where there was no ill-will initially intended. In comfortable moments, the uncovered portion of her visage exhibits a surprising range of expression and activity, but normally in public, she holds her face as the mirror to the emotionless and motionless masque.

She doesn't appear to often refer or address others with their given names, even when she knows the name and/or the person, seeming to prefer to use a nickname or some other moniker when relating to them.

Isobeau displays a certain amount of visible tension torward her Wildwood brethren (indeed, the mere mention of them), most likely due to the racial prejudice and scorn her kind continue to suffer at the hands of that race. Though there is a bitter history between the Elezen and Hyur, she does not appear to have any issues with Midlander or Highlander folk, and appreciates the strength of the Roegadyn. In regard to the Lalafell, she was once overheard stating "I don't really hate lalas...I just hate the situations they put you in." It also appears that there was an event in Isobeau's past for which she owes a particular Dunefolk goldsmith a small debt.

She often voices simple appreciation for efficiency over sentimentalism. Her talk is sprinkled with reverential references to the goddess Nymeia, and it appears that Isobeau holds a strong philosophy regarding The Weaver's threads of fate, as they pertain to her life's personal tapestry.

In the field, Isobeau wields a pole-arm, and has been seen to also carry a set of pugilist's knuckles. Though it seems she can handle herself well enough within the realm of martial skills, it doesn't appear she enjoys the accouterments that go with it. She tends to slip out of her armor at the earliest available moment, as if it gives her a certain amount of physical discomfort (or perhaps mental displeasure) to wear, and will disassemble her sectional-spear just as readily.

Isobeau has been seen to be an enthusiastic and adept dancer, that being the other occasion where she'll put her spear to good effect; using it as prop or pole as the rhythm sees fit.

The Rumor Mill

Common:

"I don't think anyone's ever seen her out and about without that creepy mask and face paint...but then again, how could you be sure?"  - market-stall muscle

Uncommon:

"Yea, I know that one...my inventory always seems to be a little lighter when she leaves.  Can't never prove anything, though."  -grumpy old goldsmith

"Seems she lost almost all her family the night Bahamut did a number on this world.  She didn't grow up on the streets afterwards that I saw, so someone must have brought her up."  - long-time local

Rare:

"Yep!  Little Miss 'I'm too cool to let my face be shown' was chased down the street, flailing and flapping, by a BEE!  Almost spit my soy-milk double-latte all over my grinding wheel."  - gloating Wildwood

"Did ye see her get a bit o' the wobbly boot on the upper Limsa spans? Wench looked to be a bit unstable, dinna seem ta wanna get near the edge...dunno if it were the heights, or water, or what." -sodden pirate

Affiliations

Isobeau holds no current affiliations, but has been seen participating in activities conducted by the Blue Skies Adventuring Company. She has also been seen contemplating a flyer posted by the Vylbrand Academy of Mystics, Tactics, and Trade, seeking a reliable guide/contact within the city-state of Ul'dah.

Teardrop's Creator Notes

This is absolutely a work in progress.  I am a firm believer in character exposition through roleplay, so will be updating this wiki with information when certain aspects of Isobeau's background history and current undertakings become more common knowledge through contact with the general community.
