Personality

Behaviors:
He tends to lock himself away for weeks on end and work out information pertaining to his spells. He is also know to do extensive studies on the way that magic affects the local monsters. He has also been looking into the more ancient aspects of the Arcanum and some of the naturally magical creatures such as fairies.

When in the company of other people he is likely to remain quiet and simply watch the others until he has something worth saying. He rarely shows his emotions and will be more likely to completely ignore someone that has angered him than to respond with what most would consider typical responses (though he will respond with violence if he sees no other alternative.)

Money:

Rogier makes his money following in his mothers footsteps making essetial oils. He remembers how calm she used to be while crafting the oils for supplements to her magic, and it has become a way for him to relax from his research as well.He will be crafting: Crab Oil, Shark Oil,Clove Oil, Lavender Oil, Lindseed Oil, and Olive Oil.(the ones in bold are what can be crafted currently)

Morals:
He could be listed as Lawful Neutral, but he is known to bend the rules of one set of laws in favor of another set that suits his needs. An example of this would be how he explains that his father was not a criminal, Since the laws of the pirate community state that theft of Limsa's goods was legal he is not a criminal (even though it is clearly illegal in Limsa's laws). He sees the Pirates as another set of standards unto themselves and therefore no more held to the laws of Limsa than the Garlean empire is held to those laws.

Mind:
Generally quite smart, aspiring to be a grand tactician. He seeks to regain the renown once held by arcanist for their use of magic to help even the most mundane sailors fend off grand naval fleets.

Quirks:
(having trouble thinking of a few good quirks without a character model to look at.)

History

Childhood- Rogier had a relatively normal childhood, for the son of a pirate at least, until his eleventh birthday when his father gave him a present that would change his life. This present was a grimoire Talmont found during one of his raids. Rogier always enjoyed the presents his father brought back from a raid, but this one gave him hours of enjoyment trying to figure out the odd runes and language written in the tome. It would take Rogier almost an entire year of deciphering the first spell in the grimoire, the spell to summon Carbuncle. Though he worked out the spell he still needed to acquire the gem necessary for the magic. Rogier followed his father to the pirates den one day without being noticed, and tried to rummage around their treasure rooms to see if they had some such gem. He made several such trips to the pirates den but never managed to find the gem he needed.

Carbuncle- The gem was finally located in the possession of an Ul’Dahn merchant that was passing through Limsa. Rogier told his father about this rich bounty, and what ship it would be leaving port on. Talmont was given great praise among the pirates for the information on this great bounty, and was asked to help lead the raid. Rogier had not told his father what he wanted from the bounty, or that he was interested in anything more than seeing his family get more gil. Rogier’s lack of speaking would end in him not getting the gem, but instead it being sold on the black market and latter returned to its owner, the purchaser of the stolen goods being locked away for theft and piracy. Rogier devised a scheme to get his hands on the gem that involved him stealing from the carriage the merchant was scheduled to take back to Ul’Dah.  Rogier used gyshal greens to tempt the Chocobos into a trap that would cause the hitch to be broken between the carriage and the birds. His plan worked and aside from the description of a hooded elzen child being released with a hefty warrant for his capture, Rogier got his gem.

Carbuncle would be summoned first in a cave not far from Rogier’s home where he could avoid detection with his new pursuits into summoning. However, Rogier’s mother being a mage herself had already noticed the signs of magic being used by her son, and while originally she dismissed this as simple toying with the tome Talmont had given him, El could see the difference when Rogier returned that night from summoning Carbuncle the first time.

Rogier’s training- El did not tell Talmont about their sons venture into the Arcane, but she did start talking with and supervising Rogier when he wanted to summon Carbuncle. El would treat his use of carbuncle the same way that the conjuror’s guild had handled teaching her to respect magic. At first Rogier could only maintain Carbuncle for a few minutes before his magic ran out, but through the style of training that the conjurors guild provides he focused on learning to feel the power that came from carbuncle instead of just trying to see the power in himself. The extra attention he gave to Carbuncle would teach him how to understand the exact pattern of carbuncles Arcanum, and thusly allow Rogier to understand carbuncle as though they were speaking the same language.

Carbuncle began telling Rogier the more intricate aspects of controlling the Arcanum, and would quickly replace El as Rogier’s mentor in the arcane arts. This relationship would continue until the present.

The Calamity and the beginning of the Rogier’s five years away from Eorzea.

The calamity saw El called up from her post in Limsa to aid in the battle of Carteneau, where she would die trying to save as many soldiers as possible, and Rogier would not learn of her demise until his return.

In the chaos that followed Talmont had left on several raids, and failed to return from the last one, without any sign of his life or death.

Rogier set out to find his father… (to be continued in Character Journal)

Relationships

Family

Mother: Eleanor Du Anjou (aka EL or Anj)

            Born: Gridania 1510

  Occupation: healer in Limsa

          Death: Battle of Carteneau

Familial Traits: Dark blue hair, short in hight.

Eleanor.png

Background: Is from a clan that live in the Black shroud and live only on what they can forage. Though they are regarded as poachers by the WWs of Gridania they generally don't do anything else against the surface dwellers. El's father accidentally brought back a surface disease (not that he could have known)that infected the entire family. El's father and mother were able to recover, but El was only seven years old and her immune system couldn't handle it. They tried everything to cure her but none of their potions would work, and they lacked anyone in the clan with healing powers. To save El they decided to place her outside of a conjurors house in the middle of the night. Not knowing whether she would live or die, they knew they would be unable to see her returned to the clan either way, as it would expose their location the the wildwoods of Gridania.

El grew up in Gridania under the supervision of the Conjurors guild. She spent 25 years training in the healing arts until she was asked to go to Limsa as an Aide to the yellow jackets. She would be stationed near the docks to help with ships returning from pirate attacks.  She met Rogier's father while healing a group of people rescued from a pirate attack. She later learned that he was one of the pirates when the yellow jackets told her that there was one more survivor than was on the ships manifest. They were looking for the extra man under the assumption that he was either a stowaway or a pirate. The yellow jackets never did find him, but El would bump into him again in the markets a few weeks later. Their romance started with her trying to correct his roguish behaviors, and while he did start going on fewer raids she never completely broke him of wanting the excitement of boarding another ship to lute and plunder. The romance lasted nearly five years, consiting of seeming random meetings( some more than others). When they were finally wed it had to be kept secret from the yellow jackets for fear that they would try and bring Talmont in.

Father: Talmont LeCard

            Born: Limsa Lominsa 1507

  Occupation: Pirate

          Death: ????????

Familial Traits: Short almost Hyur ears, Short in hight

Talmont.png

Background: is from a clan that moved around, while starting in caves in the Black Shroud, they followed the popular trading routes and would take the food and supplies they needed from the merchants that passed by. When word about them being on one route would make that road unused his clan would move to a new set of caves near the first operating merchants highway they found. This would lead them to move to just outside La Nocea shortly before  Talmont was born. Talmont, seeing some very well off pirates in the Limsa area, decided to join them in robing the surface dwellers. Durring the romance between himself and El he arranged for them to "cross paths" on several occasions.

During a raid the day of the battle of Carteneau he was lost at sea and has neither been found alive or dead.

Things others might know IC

If you lived/worked in Limsa before the Calamity

tales of an eccentric Elezen that worked outside the city doing all sorts or odd experiments. The Elezen had no real face in the rumors just a simple description of being young and questions about never sleeping. Also, mentions of strange lights from the window of his work shop.

If you were a pirate/associated with the Pirates of Limsa

A young child born to Talmont Le'Card, he was said to be poor pirate material for his lack of bodily strength and therefore rarely seen around the pirates.

If you work with/in the city of Limsa or associated with the yellowjackets.

A young Elezen boy called Rogier Du Anjou, the Child of the healer to the Yellowjackets out of Gridania. Rumored to have taken his mothers name because they didn't know who the father was. Also, rumored to be the son of some nefarious Dusky and that the reason for taking his mother's name. Though the child was rarely seen, he was know to have much lighter skin than his mother and his ears were significantly shorter.

RL Gender: Male

Schedule:

RP style (light, casual, moderate, or heavy)?

Moderate/Heavy preferred. I'm not 'always' IC when you run into me, though. It's usually quite obvious, because I tend to speak in [brackets] if I'm not IC.
I still want to progress in-game, so feel free to send me an OOC tell asking me to party, NM hunt, do leves, or whatever. However, do note that I enjoy doing these things IC too!

What kind of RP relationships are you seeking? (family ties, etc)

Friendships, Enemies, Employers/Commissioners, Recruiters, Seething hatred, Family-ties, People to explore with... Give me some drama, casual, raids, whatever! I honestly just want to RP. It doesn't have to be complicated, long-term; even interactions in passing just add so much life to the game!

How far from the actual lore are you willing to stray?

I like the lore, and I would like to stay as close to the lore as possible, however I'm not perfect and we are still learning about it, so I understand character development/changes as we learn more. I believe that what makes a great RPer is someone who can work within the bounds of the universe we are playing in, rather than push it to the breaking point.
