History/Timeline

T’khai was born during the Seventh Sun of the Fourth Astral moon in the year 1557, to T’lahkih the village weaver and seamstress. He was preceded by his elder sister T’mishkha, and followed several years later by his younger twin sisters T’miha and T’maiha. Despite being the middle child, he was still the only boy and at times his mother would spoil him or be more lenient on him. The early years of his childhood were rather uneventful, he spent his time in his mother’s workroom keeping himself out of trouble and assisting her and his sister in whatever he could. He took on the role as protector of younger sisters, by fending off anyone who picked on them or chasing off any creatures that threatened them. Around the same time he began training in combat and hunting, which he took to with great enthusiasm. The next several years were rather uneventful and he spent his time time honing his skills.

At age fourteen he met T’ahtali while hunting moles in the outskirts of the village. He was climbing trees as way “to scout out his prey,” he fell out and landed on the ground breaking his leg. T’ahtali was gathering herbs in the vicinity, when she came to his rescue. She made a makeshift splint and carried him back to the village to her mother, the village healer. After getting his bones set he was sent home, were T’ahtali would come and check in on his progress. The two quickly became very close friends, and remained so even after his recovery. They would make time to see each other as often as possible and were nearly inseparable. While on a hike together, they made a pact to be with each other and protect each other.

A year later the calamity hit shattering his happiness. The moon had descended upon the land, and his home village was consumed in flames within minutes.  He helped his younger sisters and mother escape to safety, while his sister helped the other villagers flee. While helping other survivors he found T’ahtali and her younger sister kneeling over the body of their mother and the smoldering ruins of their former home. He rushed them to safety, wishing that he could have helped sooner. The next day they returned to sort through the aftermath of the calamity and find those who went missing. He discovered the corpse of his elder sister, who refused to leave until everyone else was safe. Nearly half the village was destroyed overnight, and the other half needed extensive repairs.

T’lahkih decided to take in the two girls, since they had lost their home and family. The village did it’s best to repair and salve their wounds, but it was clear that things were going to be the same. In the months following the calamity T'ahtali seemed unusually sullen, withdrawn, and suffered from outbursts and flashbacks of the calamity, at night she was plagued with nightmares and lack of sleep. At first T’khai felt as if he could only stand watch as one of his closest companions slowly fall apart, he could not protect her from the calamity, but he could at least help her recover from the emotional aftermath. She would sneak into his bed seeking comfort, reassurance and someone who listened to her. He stayed by her side, even when her own family and friends had given up on her feeling that she was too damaged to be helped, and offered the solace and support she desperately needed.

Over time they developed feelings for each other, but they refused to tell each other out of fear that it might ruin their relationship. T’khai feared he would scare her away and stress her out, while T’ahtali feared that she would appear too dependent. They carried on the charade for several moons, even though it was quite evident to others how they felt about each other. It eventually reached a point where T’lahkih sat down with her son, questioned his relationship with T’ahtali and lectured him on the consequences they would face of having a child outside of what the tribe deemed acceptable. Flustered he distanced himself from T’ahtali, and she  attempted the same having received a similar lecture. In less than a moon they were brought together once again, when she had a nightmare and no one else was able to console her. After which they decided to not heed the opinions of others, and do what makes them happy.

After his sixteenth naming day, he began to prepare for his coming of age, where he would have to prove his strength and ability as a hunter before he was recognised as an adult. T’khai and T’ahtali were both consumed with training and preparations for the ceremony, and they had little time for each other. Several moons later he made his first “big kill” and he was considered an adult after the ceremony. When it was T’ahtali’s turn to prove herself, she was faced with strong negativity at the hands of her remaining family and friends. T’khai encouraged her and offered her advice, while seeing her off. When she returned she took him aside, thanked him and confessed her feelings for him. He was overjoyed that she reciprocated his feelings, and told her that he felt the same way too. They shared their first kiss then rejoined the celebration.

Their relationship blossomed and the two became emotionally and physically closer, despite the responsibilities of adulthood that were placed upon them. Several moons later, T’ahtali asked him to become a nunh, since she desired children, none of eligible men of the tribe appealed to her, and considering the nature of their relationship, it seemed to be obvious choice. T’khai agreed, knowing it was one of the only ways to make their relationship legitimate in the eyes of the tribe. It would be a long and arduous journey, before he could even challenge one of the nunh of the tribe he needed to defeat all the tia of the village, or he could seek out new hunting grounds. Either way, he needed to prove his strength and worth to the women of the tribe.

He began to train, and scout out the surrounding areas for new hunting grounds. After months of training and scouting, he decided to raid a small Amalj’aa encampment and seize the surrounding land for his village. With a party of the tribes best hunters, he lead the raid onto the encampment. They were successful in flushing out the beast tribe and conquering the new lands. After he would need to establish a camp and successfully maintain the territory for a year before the tribe elders would confer the status of nunh.

The hunters who helped claim the land stayed to settle the area. Several months later T’ahtali moved to the encampment, offering her services as a healer. In less than a year the encampment grew from a handful of tents, into a proper outpost for the new hunting grounds.

T’khai had successfully maintained the new territory, and the tribe’s elders conferred the role of a nunh. He took his new role in the tribe seriously, making sure that he was always there for the women of the outpost when they needed him. Several moons later T’ahtali told him that she was expecting their first child. For the first time in years the pair seemed truly happy, and they were finally putting the events of calamity behind them. They had finally found their place in society, and it seemed as though nothing could stop them.

After many moons of anticipation, she gave birth to their daughter who was stillborn, leaving them both heartbroken. Once again T’khai could only stand back and watch as the woman he loved suffered at the hands of fate. He offered her comfort and attempted to ease her pain, while blaming himself for what happened. Showing weakness would not only worry the his mates but could also be an invitation for the tia of the tribe to challenge him. In order to numb the pain and ease the stress he began to drink in private. It was a quick temporary escape from his problems. Despite his attempts to hide his vice, T’ahtali has caught him while gathering medicinal herbs. He returned home and attempted to avoid her, knowing that she was upset with him. She confronted him and expressed her disappointment and sadness; he was always there for her and yet when he needed help he turned away from her. Realising what he had done, not only hurt T’ahtali but also put his position in danger, he swore to no longer drink. The guilt of his actions drove him to improve. He slowly began recover from his grief and readjust. It took some time but his life soon returned to normalcy.

Buy this new found peace was soon broken. Early in the evening a the small outpost was visited by Ru’janh Nunh who begun his own tribe thus becoming the breeding male. The defenses of the camp were thin, as many were out on the hunt. He dragged along a troupe of huntresses, who seemed to both fear and adore him. Upon arriving, he demanded to see the nunh and everyone who lived in the outpost. T’khai arrived, confused as to why he was needed so urgently. Ru’janh came with a simple proposition, he could choose several women to join his tribe or he would take the camp and surrounding hunting grounds by force. T’khai immediately refused, and took up arms, as both choices put his tribe in danger. Ru’jahn then launched an attack on the village. Those who could fight stayed, while T’ahtali gathered the children and ran off to safety. T’khai and the rest of huntresses fought and drove off the invaders. After they fled he sent a messenger to seek T’ahtali and the children. She and most of the children were nowhere to be found, a single girl was found having fallen asleep from exhaustion. When she awoke she said that the rest of the group was abducted in the confusion and that she had barely managed to escape.

T’khai did not take the new of her abduction well, he scoured the surrounding territory for any signs of her or the children some of which were his. After a week of unsuccessful searching he fled the small encampment to seek them out. Eventually he found himself in Ul’dah, where he continues his search. Shortly after arriving in Ul'Dah he began to train under the Sultansworn in order to become a free paladin.
