1. Hi there, everyone. As us Faerie folks know, we aren't exactly the most popular server for RP stuff; with that in mind, I'm not about to be picky regarding what kinds of RP I can get on there. If it helps, though, the type of RP that I typically prefer is sort of... Adventuring, dungeon diving, sort of "archaeology" or Indiana Jones types. I.E. "Let's go into this dangerous, voidsent filled ruin from the Fifth Astral Era so that we can uncover long hidden Amdaporian secrets!" and stuff like that. That being said, though, I am 100% open to anything else that you might suggest; let's just talk it over, yeah?
2. That sounds pretty... Allagan to me. You aren't planning on taking over the world and oppressing other races using that technology, are you? ...ahem. All jokes aside, such a thing seems perfectly lore-friendly. You might want to consider adding something regarding arcanima to the mix, since that sounds like the sort of thing that an arcanist would do; that is, use aether in unconventional but "scientific" ways.
3. This is a good thread. I like this thread. I doubt that Xau would actually be the boss itself; she'd probably take on more of a role like Edda for the last boss fight of Tam-Tara Hard. Her combat classes are arcanist and scholar, so her boss fight would likely revolve around what she summons, but I don't think it would straight up be carbuncles or faeries, exactly. Let me expound upon my ideas. Xau's general profession, outside of combat, is actually more of an historian, and she specifically specializes in the history of the Fifth Astral Era; that is, the era when Mhach, Amdapor, and Nym were all at their peaks and engaging in the War of the Magi, and when black, white, and arcane magic were all reaching for higher and higher heights in an attempt to outdo one another in the conflict. Miss Dolabnha is also a rather... Curious type, to say the least, the kind of person that can't resist pressing that big red button because she just has to know what it does. So, one day, on an expedition into a ruin of the Fifth Astral Era, she finds some dusty old tomes in Amdapor or Mhach or Nym and, oh dear, what does this say? Research into combining the magics of all three magocracies? And no, no dear adventurer, this is not like red magic, this is not like red magic at all. This is talking about combining voidsent and faeries, voidsent and elementals, faeries and elementals. Any sane person would tuck such a tome away into the depths of a library and never open it again. Xau, though? Too curious. Far too curious. She knows, though, that those close-minded imbeciles around her wouldn't allow such a thing, so she takes residence deep within some Amdaporian, Nymian, or Mhachian ruin, and starts her experiments. After a while, though, the locals would doubtlessly notice some horrific abominations starting to creep out of said ruin, and would request somebody to go in and find out what's happening! And that's where the party of adventurer's come in. Descending into this ruin and fighting off chimerical monsters that combine void and elemental, faerie and void, faerie and elemental. First boss of the dungeon: Triple carbuncle fight - Emerald, Topaz, and Ruby, but all corrupted with void energy. Each would function as they normally do when summoned by an arcanist - Emerald for ranged attacks and knockback; Topaz for melee and stun; Ruby for melee and DoTs. There might be some other mechanics, but the big challenge would just be fighting three at once. I'd say that only Topaz has an aggro table, and the other function as independent enemies that only do AoEs; Emerald's would be telegraphed, but Ruby's wouldn't be. Second boss of the dungeon: A horrific combination of a voidsent and an elemental, gone completely mad from the anathemic joining. The major mechanic of the boss fight is keeping it balanced between void and elemental energy; as long as there's an equal amount of black and white mana flowing through it, it can't use either effectively because the two forces are fighting each other within; if the balance tips too far to either end, though, then it can start using strong black or white magic attacks depending on how it's tipped. Maybe something to do with preventing adds from touching it, or some kind of tethered orbs, or something along those lines. Miniboss: Every dungeon needs a miniboss between the second and third bosses! An opal carbuncle - a carbuncle infused heavily with holy magic; standard enemy, but strong and with a few AoE attacks. Final boss: Xau, with both Eos and Selene forms of her faerie; Eos has been strongly infused with white magic, and Selene has been strongly infused with black magic, turning them into completely different beings than their normal faerie forms. 1. The faeries have no aggro table, and instead roam around the arena on their own as they cast a LOT of AoEs. 2. The arena is divided into black and white sides. Eos can only be harmed when she's on the black side, and Selene can only be harmed when she's on the white side; otherwise, they're invulnerable. There would be some ways to force them to one side or the other, ideally, maybe some interactable objects. 3. Damage needs to be split roughly evenly between them; if one of them is much more damaged than the other, then the other will heal them up. 4. Did I mention lots of AoEs? This post is kind of dumb in retrospect but I spent too long writing it to scrap it all so HERE YOU GO. EDIT: During her personal boss fight, she'd probably be saying a lot of stuff like "YOU'RE INTERRUPTING MY RESEARCH!" and "NARROW-MINDED FOOLS, YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND!", and lots of ~MAD SCIENTIST~ stuff like that.
4. Xau would likely talk endlessly on any of a number of given subjects to anybody unfortunate enough to have been snatched up by her. Possible subjects, in no particular order: 1. A military history of the various wars and invasions conducted by ancient Allag. "You'd think that'd be the end of ol' Emperor Xande's plans on Mera... Meracydia, wouldn'cha? Well, you'd be wrong! You wanna know why you'd be wrong! Well, I'll tell ya why you'd be wrong! Y'see, Allag was like, 'Oooh, nooo, our civilization is declining', and so..." 2. An impromptu, oral love letter to the genius of the classical Nymians and their aetheric techniques. "Jus' thin' 'bout it! They too' the arcane geometries, and they... Are ya listenin'?! This is the impor'an' par', so listen good! They too' the arcane geometries and... And ya know wha' they di'? Well, I'll tell ya wha' they di'! They..." 3. An offhand polemic against conjury, the Hearers, and the Seedseers. "Is sooo dumb, though! They don' eve' un'erstan' how their magi' works! Can ya... Can ya... *hic!* Imagi'e usin' magi' when ya don' know how ya magi' works? *hic!* YEAH I'M TALKIN' ABOU' YOU, YA DUMB TREE-HUGGIN' IDIOT! LET ME GO! THEY WANNA GO, I'LL GO!" ...and so on and so forth. This, of course, would just be her usual drunk personality, but she'd easily have different drunken moods depending on what her previous sober mood was like.
5. Gambling. Whenever she's in Ul'dah to study texts at the Ossuary, she probably finds her way into the Platinum Mirage on her way back to the Quicksand, where she quickly loses a sum equivalent to the monthly wage of a manual laborer in only a single night. She normally holds her stoic rationality and inability to be swayed by emotion in high regard, so she's quite ashamed of the pleasure and rush she gets from engaging in games of sheer chance and luck that operate entirely off of gut feeling and intuition.
6. Hello, everyone. My character, Xau Dolabnha, is a Keeper of the Moon. I originally designed her long before I had any concern or knowledge of FFXIV lore, and so I had given her dark brown skin, black and white heterochromia'd eyes, and black and white two-tone hair. Over time, as I developed her character more and began to integrate my vision of her into the FFXIV world, I fantasia'd her eyes into two normal, brown ones, and I dyed her hair to a more dirty blonde-ish color. While I've made her significantly more lore-friendly than she was at first, there are still parts of her that I don't really want to change - for example, I really like how she looks with dark brown skin, and I'd like to keep that, even though, lore-wise, most Keepers have grey-scale skin of various shades. The question I have for the community, then, is what would you consider a valid, lore-friendly reason as to why a certain character of a certain clan of a certain race has an unconventional skin color compared to other characters of the same clan and race?
7. I. Basic Info Characters: Xau Dolabnha Primary character: Xau Dolabnha Linkshells: None, at present. Primary RP linkshell: None, at present. II. RP Style Amount of RP (light, medium, heavy): Light to medium. I'm not quite comfortable with serious, in-depth, long-term RPs in an MMO format quite yet, but I should be fine with other types of RP. Views on RP combat and injuries: I would prefer to use a mechanical system (Such as Fate14) with verbose, hand written combat descriptions; I am averse to long-term/permanent RP injuries, though. Views on IC romance: As a player, I'm not averse to IC romance, but my character herself, Xau, is not the type of person to become seriously committed to romance in any form, though she'd probably sleep with someone if she fancied them and the opportunity came up. Views on non-romantic RP (family ties, etc): Ideally, this is what a significant amount of cooperative RP with Xau would involve; platonic relationships involving adventuring and dungeon delving to uncover the secrets of Eorzea and Hydaelyn, etc. etc. Views on lore: As Xau's primary profession is "Historian", any cooperative RP I do would, by necessity, be heavily lore-accurate. I'm more flexible when it comes to stuff like character Jobs, though - multiple White or Black Mages may be problematic, but multiple Scholars or Summoners seems fine. Views on chat functions (/say, /linkshell, etc): /party for IC chat in public areas, /say for IC chat in private areas, and /linkshell for semi-IC chat. III. Other Info Country: United States Timezone: Pacific Standard Time Contact info: Xau Dolabnha on Faerie [glow=blue]~Special announcements can be found in the posts below~[/glow]
8. Hello, everyone! I'm Xau Dolabnha, from the Faerie server, though I typically use "MissBrainProblems" as an OOC handle. As the title says, I've been doing formalized RP for a while now (Fall 2011, if memory servers correctly) but I've never done MMO-based RP before; this is, partially, due to the fact that FFXIV is the first MMO in several years that I've ever actually found myself committed to! The basic concept I have for my character - Xau - is that she's an adventuring historian that traverses Eorzea (And now the rest of Hydaelyn, too!) in search of knowledge regarding long past Eras; she uses her training as an Arcanist and the skills of the Nymian Scholars that she's picked up whenever spelunking down into dangerous ruins. I also have an extensive idea of her background and life history, but I think that can probably wait until later. Glad to be here, and thanks for having me! EDIT: I found the RPC whilst looking up details on Miqo'te population numbers.
