  1. One of these days you need to make a gallery of all the portraits you've done all together. It's amazing to see them all!
  2. I so remember the book theme... (I need a rolling around laughing emoji.)
  3. Aysun was not my first character, but she is the one that has been roleplayed consistently in some universe ever since her creation in 2005. So, twelve years. Not bad. :3 While her stories change based on the universe she is in and the roleplay, her core personality and physical traits (like her eyes) carry over.
  4. Of course, they aren't going to redesign all the game textures so that every localization gets their signs translated as well. I know some oddballs like Blizzard do because they have huge wallets and a strong policy of detail over localization, but that's far from being the rule, and neither in cinema. Also, if we went by the rule "I play in english so everything said literally or ambiguously in english is therefore true to my lore", I don't know then. A few months ago I started a thread to investigate if the "Gem of Shattoto" as referred to in the english version is one and only or refer to a type of jewel where there is many/several. I had to go dig in the french translation (which is always, always more literal even if cheesy), to see that it's the second option. Had I gone with the rule "the english translation is my only compass, the rest is irrelevant", then I would have taken the opposite conclusion that there is only one damn BLM soulstone in the lore. Which sounds a bit like saying there is a mistake or something ambiguous in the english loc, but it's true even if in contradiction with the rest. It would be like saying the various typos and contradictory mistakes in the english lorebook should be ignored. EDIT: if anything, my current take on the matter is similar to the OP. Hingan, Doman, Sea Wolf and whatnot, are all ancient (or less ancient) languages that have faded off progressively to make way to the common tongue. It's a bit like the Galactic Basic in Star Wars to my eyes. And yes, I still believe that Hingan is probably spoken plenly as Hingan in the reclusive islands of Hingashi, out of ijin's ears range though. The one thing about the lorebook is it's not perfect. Also, not everyone has access to it. Everyone playing the game has access to the lore in the game in the language they are able to play it in. Its the localization team's responsibility to at least get the basic idea across. I don't want to nitpick little lore intricacies anymore, I'm tired and I want to have fun. There are several things that are more than just typos in the book. There are things that directly contradict lore established in game - one of those things being this. So I default to the game. A player shouldn't have to scour all the language settings to figure out lore well enough to RP. I'm one little RPer in a sea of RPers all interpreting the lore. Not telling anyone else how to do it, just stating how I do it and why.
  5. The idea of the actual languages existing, Doman and Hingan in particular, is fully supported by the English translation. Therefore, that's what I go with. Because I play the English version, Eorzean seems based in English (see your map, 'no entry' signs, etc - I don't believe those change when you change translation of the game!), and of course, I RP in English. Plus there's things like this: Random fancy squiggles and not evidence of an actual language that is still used? It is definitely different than Eorzean script.
  6. As one of the "old guard" folks who came from 1.0's Besaid community, there really is something else that was not brought up. The mighty "we" I will be using is a general term. I am not speaking for everyone. When 2.0 came out and people started talking about a secondary RP server, I was one of the ones who was vehemently against it. Fracturing the RP community was absolutely incomprehensible to me. The RPers absolutely had to stick together or we'd never make it. Why? Because 1.0's RP community was SO SMALL and that was all I knew. I had no idea that this community would need to be fractured. I could never have imagined a community as large as what we have now. The mindset of a united community being necessary took time to shake off for a lot of us I imagine, not just me. We were also comfortable where we were, and just unconcerned maybe. In that time, Gilgamesh tried and failed, we kept encouraging people to just transfer onto Balmung as the windows of time where character creation was available shrunk and disappeared. We did act too late to encourage new people to begin growing a new community. Absolutely. We're trying to do that now, but somehow sending people to the new chosen servers is not enough support? I don't have time to make an alt and invest myself on another server (though I did make my character on Mateus for visiting) and like many others, I'm not leaving my home on Balmung to help a small community grow, as much as I want to see them succeed. The character lock blindsided everyone. We're trying to do what we can now that SE has forced our hands. There will be people who transfer their mains to the smaller servers. A place to start fresh, to help grow something, but don't come after those of us who can't. It's not like we're not trying to be supportive in other ways. (When the new format comes around for the RPC, I imagine it is going to be very multi-server friendly too and will help grow these smaller communities!)
  7. I want to keep this thread mostly on topic, but wanted to address this point specifically. snip Requiring users to select on of the tags, listing the main servers that are noted for RP as well as an "other" could help. I think with the new boards with filtering actually splitting the boards would be unneeded.
  8. No questions, but how about a progress bar on that lump-sum so we are motivated to donate? Just sayin', it's effective. Also, FINALLY. Thank you.
  9. I'm in agreement, there needs to be a place designated for new RPers to XIV to congregate. We need to be able to recommend somewhere to new players until Balmung's population stabilizes and they are able to open it to new characters again. (And even after, if people do not want to join Balmung due to its size). Once one is decided, there should be a new button in the FC/LS tabs for them. There should be support for them (even a splitting of Event and Seeking Connection forums, etcetera, into Balmung, New NA Server Option, New EU Sever Option, and Other). If we want the RPC to be/remain the "XIV RP community" rather than just "The RP community on Balmung" 's go to website, we need to do this. However, when it comes to choosing that we should take input from various people on other servers, or those who have been to other servers (like Kylin above), and use that rather than posting a poll that anyone can vote on. At the moment I think I will personally recommend Mateus (and Faerie?) until I see more feedback here. Edit: Reading comprehension is hard tonight. Overall: I support OP's approach, but think the RPC management needs to react too.
  10. Seriously. Feel your pain. Why did I choose curls. WHY. @OP, like the rest say, take cues from the RPer. If they say their bright pink hair is natural? I roll with it. Nothing strange!
  11. My personal reasoning for this is just that they're concentrating. Actual lore reason? No idea!
  12. I adore your art! These are wonderful.
  13. Haven't seen it. The few that play that type that I do know/have seen just give up and use a female model... x_x
  14. Aysun has a doppleganger. She was part of a plot a couple years ago, and I've kept her as an alt. She's actually just her (not known) half-sister, so the similarities are explained by that, rather than glamours or anything.
