1. To organize a Discord would be immensely helpful but unlike a forum, Discord is like one big chatroom with various channels and things scroll by. Pinning stuff like submitted FCs and the like might be a bit much especially since forums have easy to search conditions for what you want exactly and the replying of things. Users also make their own threads to start discussions that isn't overlapping another topic on forums. However the era of Forums seem to be a dying breed because of the social media boom. Discord has advantages but it won't be the same environment or feel as this website designed for gathering of people and searching for stuff that you can come back to after a day for replies. Discord is fast scrolling and most people don't bother scrolling up for anything if they have not peeked in a while thus rendering them to being 'inactive'. Still I would be up for a discord to gather who remains here since it is cheaper to maintain. Hell I'd be on board to act more like an admin role.
2. I know i've not used the site for years but wanting t o share my happiness with the site that got me to enjoy ff14 RP. since then my character has gone through a lot of change good and bad. Married, adopted a kid and more. It is because of everyone i've encountered even from here that the journey was met with plenty of events. Stories were told. Friends died, enemies fell and peace is once again. It sucks we can't keep the wiki up as an archive to not add more things but i'm going through and copying everything i can down to images to preserve what they looked like for my Drive. Thanks to everyone and i hope you all are out on some discords i can check up randomly :3 I'll always be on Balmung to the bitter end and RPing as that Record Keeper helping everyone with her multi-colored family. From the bottom of my heart, thank you. P.S: I WAS A SAGE BEFORE IT WAS SAGE WITH THE FLOATING WEAPON DEVICE! NEVER FORGET!!! :3 - The Quintessence Family. you can follow me on twitter if you wish @ParthMakeo

5. That really is on a case by case basis. I know there are plenty of people who would think one thing is bending or breaking lore when it is perfectly possible. Lore Bending is like taking something established and implementing something not TOO insane but still kind of on the tip (Broadsword Paladin) Lore Breaking is literally as it implies...you are breaking the Lore's rule or flow to make something happen. Like... Voidsent who does not need Aether when the whole point of a Voidsent is that they feed off of aether and cause issues for the world itself. but someone around here might know more about it. What would be the thing you are inquiring about if i might ask about this topic?
6. The other thing about Balmung RP is not even about balmung itself but atm the 'game' is feeling very stagnate to a lot of veterans and other players alike. Lately the focus of content in 14 has been the cash shop, the story for at least what i hear from most friends of mine is meh/uninteresting and their RP narratives make them more engaged in the world or they simply are just not having fun in 14 like before. And i don't blame them....and i know you are going to ask "What does this have to do with Role Playing?" It does affect some people, especially myself who likes to RP in public from time to time or wants to get out...fact of the matter is i struggle to even log in because i know all i'll be doing in the game is mostly sitting and occasional Emoting/looking for parties to interact with or plain AFKing. I don't have interest in the endgame nor gearing and Eureka i finished on Alyx by purely AFKing through it all...No joke. That said the RP if anything got bigger after some people were allowed to transfer onto Balmung. My FC in particular has had a resurgence of recruiting and some of them hailed from mateus (when they first started RP during Stormblood) or other less populated servers. We have had more activity in the last few weeks and months than 4.0-4.1. And this is just a small personal thing. I know the FC members go out and about RPing elsewhere and attending events like Grindstone which is to my knowledge still the best location to meet other RPers you want to connect with even if you are just watching the fights. Balmung RP is not dying. FAR FROM IT! Balmung RP may be stagnating or atm people are just taking breaks from the game cause...let's face it there's nothing much to do in 14 for some people besides Role Playing.
7. As someone who is writing stories myself and learning, it all is dependant on the story you are telling. Are you making a story that has multiple bad guys instead of just one? Try multiple arcs with breaks to breathe in between and let people have time to do other things. Is the story to the point with no side plots or possible extensions? Maybe a month or two. Or shorter if you are one and done. Is this story about one or about all? Sometimes having a story that focuses not on the DM will be better for long term. Give others a chance to shine. And truthfully you just have to ask 'how long' do you want this yourself. I ran a story for a year and a half. It went through three arcs before ending with a side plot to unlock a character's past. I am currently in another, but halfway done and planning to start in January of next year again with the steaks getting higher. Pace yourself, understand some events or stories should be removed if they don't fit or work, write, write and gods sakes WRITE YOUR IDEAS AS BULLET POINTS. you don't want to forget how your story flows. Just have to find the right people. P.s: also prepare alternative paths as well depending on choices made.
8. This is a huge issue for me, as well. I'm basically a DM in this game, since I've been a DM in tabletop games since I was 16 it just feels more comfortable for me to run things. I like when people join (Even outside of FC but I do tend to keep it contained to FC for obvious reasons) but I get "I had to be there for the beginning so I don't wanna" or "I'm not sure I can see it to the end so I don't wanna" a lot. It's not something I've really been able to solve, but I do what you do, self contained events with an over arching narrative so if they just go to one or two they won't be lost in anyway and if they feel like joining the big picture they can. I don't know, maybe people are scared? It's hard for me to get into the player mindset. It's a few things and honestly I've been in a player mindset as well. One of the complaints i had during my time running the event is that i was 'ignoring' someone while the event was taking place when they made no effort to step up and speak their character's mind or reaction well. Even when I directly addressed them or gave them a moment to shine. I was told this by a friend of mine since apparently they were too scared to tell me directly or something. Another issue i had is the 'self-insert' arc where someone literally came into my RP sessions and 'self inserted' their arc into mine as if trying to make his character look more important or foreshadowing an event he may or may not be doing...when he never even ASKED or made me aware he wanted to do this till after. I did confront him after the third time and explained politely that if he wanted to intersect his own character's story or plot with mine, he should take it with me or stop. Since that event he showed up to one more before never being seen again. Probably because i either scared him off or he felt bad which i didn't yell at him. Just politely told him how rude it was before asking me if he wanted to add things or not. (Which i was open to) So for many they want a 'reason' to join. Like 'will my character be important?' or 'will they do the final blow?' but it was rare to find those bad apples on Balmung. Other times it's people who even compliment me for the event and encouraged me to keep going. There are many factors to people not joining but most need to assure their character fits right. You can't have some Edgelord Dark Knight who broods 24/7 while blasting Void Ark music helping a cheery and happy Cait Sith Doll look for a golden popoto with comedy and wacky situations. :3 It was why i do mini-events with close friends to give them slightly more importance or share information their characters can hold or not. So they have some significance or an action that will influence the story... but i'm rambling about it. Currently i'm comfortable and i'm derailing my own thread.
9. I'll be frank, running an event publicly back during late ARR/Early HW was both fun but frustrating. I was trying my best to include people in these story lines and various encounters (It worked in the end cause i met certain people) but part of the frustration is that NO ONE shows up. I advertised days in advance in chat channels and linkshells before and when time came, exact location and all i see maybe 1-2 interested. I even picked non-Saturdays due to grindstone...and still not many showed. Part of the problem too is the mentality of "I have to be there from the start to be engaged/immersed" mentality of storyline RP events...even though i did self contain the events enough to be one offs without much worry and made them more call to arms. In the end 99% of them were with friends i already established with Social RP at bars or the grindstone. And even their friends join as well. I'm ALL for making another event. Another one time (After i finish this one arc) but that day is not really looking like it will happen with grindstone taking the only day i have to make/run events. Maybe i'll take the shot and give people the enjoyment of being detectives or a comical adventure where Geppetto will look for the Golden Popoto and somehow puts a crayon drawing on the board... But for now...self contained Events with my FC until I find time.
10. to clarify from active wow player: the Cross server issue as of this expansion was "MOSTLY" fixed with phasing different versions of a quest. Some people just can't see things like the dead whelps but you can still see your friend doing that quest. But FF14's MSQ is a giant 'attunement quest' compared to most MMO's. But yes for 90% of the Phasing, wow's CRZ issue is more problematic with RP communities and even the PVP-RP servers (who you also can get PVP players from other servers) A system like what wow did for ff14 is not going to work and will effectively kill ALL community in the coming years. While yes Battle.net lets you cross faction chat, invite people to their server (yes that's a thing for RPers who advertise in group finder) for the general audience? It's just hell and out of your control less you are with a friend who invited you to join them on Moonguard in a group...even then CRZ does not work for Major capitals on RP servers last i check purely because of RP reasons. anyways back on topic again. Just wanted to clarify the CRZ thing- -----
11. i have no problem with RP. I just am wondering about others. Its kind of why i am not posting actively on the fourms because of some people im rping with lately as a group
12. DISCLAIMER! I am by no means trying to start a war of servers or anything to ignite a feud. This is a topic i've been asking myself and friends and felt like getting off my chest. KEEP THIS CIVIL! Stormblood has been out for nearly six months or so and in that time i've seen people on Balmung and met move to other servers in the first few days (who now are regretting their choice for some reason) and overtime the effect of a server effectively contained with no way to transfer back on nor make a new character brought a slowly growing issue.... No new blood. "WELL NO SHIT PARTH! OF COURSE NO NEW BLOOD WOULD COME TO THE SERVER!" But this is a problem in of itself. Without new blood we might face an incoming drought of RP contacts and friends. Now i am sure majority of Balmung won't care and personally i don't mind RPing with my pals on the server since i came. My problem is when people get either tired of a character but cannot really RP on the server if they have no alt characters, or people who want to make a fresh start for some reason but find that people will most likely know who they are. New RPers are all heading to Mateus and good on them, but i feel as if without any chance to 'return' to Balmung for anyone who left or want to try the server, there's no real growth that can come from Balmung less we all suddenly hit the reset button on our RP characters and start fresh. While of course we all are caring and loving of our characters, the fact that Balmung does not seem to be opening it's gate will wane. I was lucky to get six characters on Balmung before the lockdown. I have six potential characters to RP as with varying levels of personality. Though some have exclusive items or are much more tended to. For others? Not so much... People i have talked to on my discord who transferred their characters to mateus are kicking themselves in the ass for not keeping at least one person on Balmung for sake of talking with pals or casual RP. So i ask you all...What are your thoughts as a balmung player about the Lockdown? Do you feel like at some point you might just drop RP activity until they open the gates? Do you think Square should just update their server capacity already to accommodate more than 50k characters? (tbh i'm just joshing on the number ) I'd like to hear your concerns.
13. Alyx Quintessence 1: Future Love. If it means to keep my mother from being an insane monster and have a proper childhood. Love is a simple sacrifice if it means changing the past. 2: Ah, the old 'can only save one' trick question...Sadly your question may say who i save but you didn't restrict me. In this case I would merely save them both using the magical wards and teleportation scrolls on hand. 3: Well as much as i love these what if scenarios, we must also discuss a few things. One, how can the alliance tell i am a Garlean Spy exactly if I have uncovered information that could remove Garlean men in an entire region? Two, if for some reason they would consider me a spy from the information i have, which frankly would be plausible, what is stopping me from just doing the deed on my own or hells, even inviting like minded individuals to do it under the cover of the authority and letting them take all the credit? See, the question you offered has holes and at first glance seems logical to just tell them and be labeled a spy for the greater good...IF it was the only method. You could plant documents and other clues without the presence being known. Thus THEY cannot even remotely link it to your own hands and take said information and do what they will. Whether they throw it away or not is left up to them and their choice. If they choose to follow it, they will win. If not, then they will miss their chance. Or...in layman terms. Third option: Hand them this information without being identified and see if they trust it or not. Thus eliminating any chance of being accused of being a Garlean spy. ----- 1: Immortality with normal lifespan or Vulnerability with no lifespan? And do explain your reason for taking it. 2: Do you believe that there are alternate timelines coexisting alongside ours? And what do you think your alternate self is doing? 3: Simple... Cats or Dogs?
14. (Alyx Quintessence) 1. Tonberries. I never trust a moogle 2. I would change my death...so I can experience a proper childhood. 3. Why that is easy...my Archive room. Silent, many books and my sisters are there. ---- 1. What do you consider power besides physical strength and spells? 2. How far would you go to save a loved one? 3. Would you wish for anything you want even if it results in the misery or even death of another living being?
15. I do hope we don't get too far on this topic because I know someone will start one hate bashing comment and it will escalate from there. We should make a forum rule in the future to not have server bashing (not saying this is either. It's not) Balmung is still the same if not a tad better since more people left because of impatient mentality to wait a moth or so for servers to stabilize (regular server shutdowns helped) And mateus is still growing despite their housing issue (which I say look it up instead of talk about it). Maybe in 4.1 transfers will come back but for now I advise people with at least one character on balmung to NOT transfer them off unless you REALLY want to or it's needed because you don't make alts.
16. I'm sure there is at least some people who do that but...from what i see almost 95% of the RPers (At least those i've interacted) do not go that route because of the Mary Sue/Gary Stu way the Main Story Quest paints the Warrior of Light. Most of us just want to be more creative than simply the chosen one or the jesus led by god. But keep looking. I'm sure there is an FC like that somewhere. Just be careful about it. A good idea though is to start roleplaying in public areas and events casually and don't bring it up until you have met people who may share the same RP ideas later on.
17. I welcome our new RP pals on mateus. It sucks Balmung is on lockdown but hey! More chances to expand! P.s: before you type you should think how people would react. Going around saying something like 'Hitler did nothing wrong!' And expecting people to ignore that will not fly. Especially on the internet where it can stay archived for a record of history. Thankfully you posted here but if this was 4chan you would be given nonstop abuse. Just a heads up for any future posts you might put up. Always be weary what and how you type :3
18. Or maybe make people try and condense their posts? One complaint i hear more than the 3-0 knockout for people is the length and time it takes to post. The spam is already going to be intense with so many people and while I also experienced this when I did fight before, lengthy posts are fine for smaller group of people like the original in a sense but now it's far too chaotic to keep up and try to see every fight. I know people love typing paragraphs but those same people take the most time to execute an action that could of been condensed into something simpler or get rid of fluff. " turns around, swinging his blade with the utmost speed and power around the head at a ninety degree angle at from his stance on the ground from her previous blow. His blade shining and gleaming in the sun of Thanalan to give him the strength to win-" This already lost my interest for a big event. Smaller and more personal fights i understand...but maybe cut it down to something like " swings his sword horizontally at in an attempt to disarm his opponent and ensure a victory." Again this is all personal opinions and changing things now IS far too big. But the general feedback from my friends who use to attend and even watch the Grindstone say their opponents take way to long to post. Someone can take 1 min to type, others might take 6-7 mins and that is where a lot of the time stretch comes from. Because they ALL want to be fantastical and show off... but as warren stated too
19. It's already too late to give servers their own type of flag considering none of them have the typical "PVP/PVE" label to note what is encourage. And with Balmung being on Aether, what about the other servers? If we were to allow Balmung to have an RP tag then what would be the RP realm of each server? I ask because 1: Gilgamesh and Balmung are already server locked. Hence why we're trying to find alternatives and judging from the population chart...it's REALLY BAD. and 2: even with an RP tag it won't stop non-rpers at all. Balmung has so many people that pve and raiding still thrives because most RPers (shock of all shock) actually do Savage content. Lables don't mean anything in MMO games as much as you think. An RP server flag is merely saying "By the way this server might have people toggling walk and not typing in broken English" to other players. P.S: truth be told, Final Fantasy 14 would benefit better by just merging smaller servers but that is another topic for another thread.
20. Allag are like the super genius ancient race in the universe that can rival or be better than the Garlean empire...and they have dabbled in Cloning technology if you have done the Crystal Tower. They clearly have advanced means of technology, some of which being actual computers, test tubes, ect. If anything, you can think of them like...Protoss from Starcraft except not that alien and just technology bound. Hell if you go into Binding Coils you will see a lot of Allag stuff from the moon. I'd talk more but some of it is MSQ spoiler territory. Point is: Voidsent are not exactly demons and can be hard to play right but Allag are kind of like super scientists. Azys Lla is drenched with the architecture and remains of Allag technology. So a Parasite made on accident or failed experiment is going to be [AT LEAST IN THIS CASE OF LORE BREAKING] more believable.
21. Well...Where do I begin? First off: You said this character will not be lore friendly. Now as much as I want to say play what you want... if it's so non-lore friendly that it wouldn't even make sense in this universe, NO ONE will RP with you...and trust me I've played with lore breaking RPers before. Next: "Inspiration for this character comes from the anime/manga Parasyte, where she's a creature who owes her existence to leeching off of something else, and tries to find purpose in a world that is inherently hostile to her by its very nature." I'm glad more people are finding out about this series but truthfully if someone was a parasite like that, you would bet that character would die the MOMENT a mage came in the picture. There's enough Magic BS out there that literally in lore PEOPLE ARE BROUGHT BACK TO LIFE. So even if it wasn't lore friendly....your character would be killed ASAP before anyone can even find out. Just being brutal with you. Ok so next is- "Moth sought refuge in Hydaelyn when she realized she was able to take over the bodies of the people that lived there and hide amongst them. It was a gruesome process: it involved decapitating the victim, whereby Moth would then attach herself to the spot where the head was, taking over the body. This had to be done within seconds after the victim's head left the body, while the heart was still beating, since Moth cannot animate corpses. The host body is still very much alive...just minus their original head." Unless you are strictly doing this with NPC characters, no one will allow this and again referring to the above, you would be KILLED ON SIGHT even in non Lore friendly ways. No one will take a risk of such a horrible creature in a sane sense. The rest i don't need to comment on. If you wanted to make this character for a Roleplay session, you might as well just make your own universe instead of using the Final Fantasy brand. The one thing most people sometimes forget is the fun of Roleplaying in an established world is living and going by majority of the rules. I'm sure there may be 1-3 other people interested in this idea somewhere but.... Right now, as harsh as this will sound... You will not get decent Role Playing with this character. Infact, I wouldn't be shocked if you suddenly tried to meta game out of your character dying. Like all possible scenarios I can think of for this character end in a BAD END and short lived RP event. It's better left in the refuse bin or taken to an Original RP world. Look, I'm sorry. *Sips coffee* I didn't mean to be that harsh...I just don't want someone playing a type of character they know is lore breaking and wants to Roleplay with others yet most likely despite whatever their emotion is, they will surely meet with tier maker faster than Firefly ended. WITH THAT SAID! You should instead remove the Voidsent thing and go with the idea of a meteor fragment carrying your pal. That way you DON'T need the void or Aether drinking and cut a significant chunk of what is mostly fictional. Call her an unknown entity as well and give mystery to it. Perhaps she even came from another 'realm' Get creative with the idea of a 'parasite' not a 'Voidsent' if you get what i mean... OR HELL MAKE HER AN ALLAG EXPERIMENT GONE WRONG! >:3
22. just a reminder the ring only lasts till level 30 so the last 20 levels will only benefit from the earrings

25. In Forta's spare time, she had been helping around a music shop in Ul'dah, hidden in the back alleys and ran by an old Hyur man of Midlander origin. short white hair and sporting a full beard enough to look like a pillow. In secret, Forta would arrive to help the man clean, prepare and even run the counter while he worked on repairs in the back. It had it's old charm and charisma and the man's repair skills were beyond anyone's comprehension. But one day, Forta was cleaning the back room when she stumbled upon a strange looking case. A black case that looked quite bulky. Her curiosity soon peaked as she took a look inside. Unhinging the locks, she pulled it back and after a slight puff of dust...she eyed a musical device she's never seen before. "W-what in the seven hells is this thing?" Forta examined the instrument. One side had ivory like piano keys, the other had a myriad of buttons and the whole thing was connected by a billow that stretched and compressed with ease. Holding it up, her fingers couldn't quite get a good idea of how to hold it. "It's heavy..." The old shop keeper in the meantime was finishing up a polish work on a violin when Forta came into the room with a question. "Sir? What's this weird piano?" Forta asked. The old Hyur shifts his classes and smiled warmly. He replied "Oh that's not a Piano, Forta. That's an Accordion." and he gently took the device to properly hold it. His right hand upon the keys and the left on the buttons as he soon demonstrated the instrument in action. His skinny fingers pressed on a few keys and buttons, each one a different cord in sequence as he either pulled or pushed very gently. As it worked like a billow, the sounds it made were varied. Yet each note and chord vibrated like a Harmonica, yet had more complexity than most instruments. Hearing the simplest notes from low to high, Forta was for once astounded by the distinct and unquestionable sounds. "Haha! I still got it...but the old girl could use some new reeds..." The music owner mentioned just as Forta asked "Sir! C-can I have that instrument?" really taken by the instrument. He chuckled. "Of course you can...but promise you will take good care of her. It's hard enough to make them without the right parts." ---- Over the next few weeks, Forta would take lessons from the man in-between her job. She wanted to learn this instrument and how it worked. Out of all the instruments she's seen and heard, nothing seemed as unique as the Accordion. It felt right up her alley. And yet as she continued to do this, Forta knew people would make fun of her for using such a strange instrument...If she would have to play it, then it would be somewhere remote... So the day was set. Forta took her very bulky case and went to Costa Del Sol. The mountain beyond was easy enough for her to climb up even with the added weight but she couldn't be seen....not yet. As she hopped from indent to indent with the help of her internal Wind, she soon reached a flat and grassy plateau with a few flowers and some rocks. "...This should be good..." Forta would take her seat and prepare the Accordion as needed. First, she started with the row of keys, hearing the tones. Going from low to high and doing it several times before she had a good idea of what she wanted to play. Forta took a soft breath...and with her hands and motions, proceeded to play a soothing but quite happy melody that the shopkeeper gave to her. Her fingers fiddled rapidly upon the keys and buttons as the accordion shrunk and expanded to bring air through it. The reeds making different kinds of sounds and all in one package sounds like more than one instrument. Yet her melody wouldn't go unheard...soon a small little bird joined her, curious as to the sound she was playing...and then another. A few little birds soon perched to hear this weird sound yet also how someone like Forta made it up here. Forta smiled gently, not wanting to disturb her tiny audience members as she just continued to play the shopkeep's melody in secret. Enjoying the time she had in her personal solitude in the wild... And it is said that at times, the melody carries down from the mountain and across La Nocea and even managing to reach Limsa. Her wind Aether carrying the sound across so much that many have considered this a strange phenomenon... Some have called it 'Garuda's lost melody' while others deemed it to be the 'Siren's sister'...but regardless the name, it's just Forta Quintessence enjoying her secret passion with nothing but the wind and birds.
