  2. I am also a part of the "old guard" that came from Besaid. I made friends there, they came to Balmung when the servers merged, and I continue to stay there because my friends are still there. Go, rally the troops to create a new RP server. You have my support 100%. But don't be angry at us for not wanting to abandon our homes. If you really want people to move, encourage SE to name an RP server and give us the opportunity to move as a group and keep all of the things we worked hard to earn on Balmung. If that doesn't happen, I hate to say it, but chances of us moving are slim.

  6. Oooh! *posts banner* *watches you walk past* Oh. Well then. Yeah. Whatever.
  7. I think if I had to create a character all over again, I'd probably follow lore more closely. When I created Alothia, there wasn't really any lore to speak of for Miqo'te, so I just went with the flow. WHen 2.0 rolled out, I didn't feel like retconning her entire story, so I ended up molding her backstory to fit what I had created. So she's not lore breaking, but she's not a stereotype either.
  8. As a mod, I'm reluctant to delete this thread, because I think a lot of the advice here is sound advice. Trust me, I feel your pain. I was a really active RPer back in 1.0. I was fairly well known, and people still know of me, but getting RP nowadays is tough. A lot of it is due to my own schedule and shortcomings, but I understand your frustrations. Sometimes you just need to sit down and work out what isn't working out with your characters. Sometimes you need to find the right event to meet people at. And sometimes, you just need to find the right person. Don't give up faith and hope that it'll happen. And don't blame everyone else. Doing stuff like that will sour people toward your character, unfortunately. You'll find your stride eventually.
  9. Just had to pop back in this thread and thank everyone for giving awesome advice, and being super cool about everything. Sometimes threads like these become a breeding ground for comments that are...a little less welcome. So reading this thread and the advice given herein makes my heart happy. Carry on!
  10. You know, I think that there are a lot of people who might shirk at it, but that's if it's done in a way that is...how do I put this...fetishizing it. If it's something that your character is struggling with, and is a critical part of your character, I think that you're less likely to get people turning up their nose at you. But if you're giving your character this "quirk" because it's something that gets you off, and doesn't really have a stroy driven reason, then that's when you'll get people avoiding you. How do you convey that? I'm not really sure. I think it would make for interesting story, but I also think something like this is a tough line to straddle. Be thoughful in your portrayal of it, and I think that fewer people will take issue with it OOCly.
  11. It has been so long. I'd been trying to keep in touch via letters, but sending them became a chore, and it was just easier to stay in bed. The country life is pleasant, but it lacks the excitement of the city. I miss it. Is it wrong to say that? When everything here is so perfect, when I can forget the woes that followed me for so long. At what point is it okay to say that you want something different? It has nothing to do with Khale. Things between us have never been better. Mid-morning, when I rise, he is the first thing I see, his shocking white hair illuminated against the bright sunlight. When I turn in for the night, he holds me in his embrace, and I know that everything is fine. But I miss the sounds of the city. I miss the cries from the vendors in their stalls. Hells, I even miss the loud chatter in the Adventurer's guild. There was always something comforting about listening to people turn each other down. I know Khale doesn't miss it at all. I feel bad having asked if he would even want to come with me for a visit. But I think he does miss his brother. And I miss my sister. I'd like to catch up. Perhaps I can make time for a visit soon. Perhaps they'll even remember me there. Perhaps.
  12. Alothia wishes for things she can't have. For faces that she's long forgotten to return, for her company to be bustling and full of life like it once was. For the five years she was gone to magically come back. But she also wishes for the future. For a child someday. For a peaceful life with Khale. For the ends of the conflicts that have been plaguing Eorzea. She could also use a new pair of boots.
  13. INCREDIBLY COMPLETE CHARACTER PLANNING SHEET Alothia Starkwood (Because I haven't played her in forever and I need to get back to who she is. Working on this periodically when I have time. Still incomplete as of now. Just wanted to save it and come back to it later.
  14. Alothia was one of those characters who had a crummy time when she was younger. Got involved in some low level crime. Ended up getting some people hurt, and left that lifestyle. So she became an adventurer to pay the bills in a way that was legitimate, and helped people at the same time. She kinda went into it willy-nilly, hoping to get herself killed in the process because she was so distraught. Eventually she focused on healing and used that to help others...and went through a lot of other changes. But that's the basics of her story.
  15. Alothia tugs at the hems of her clothing when she's deep in thought or is in an uncomfortable situation. When she's reading, she will twirl her hair around her finger, which usually causes an almost permanent wave in her hair on one side of her face. Those are really her only physical tells, other than ear and tail twitches, which really depend on the situation.
