  1. My apologies, I suppose I worded my initial post incorrectly due to.. being tired maybe? I'm unsure. My question was more geared towards how one might barter or trade with individuals working under Rowena in order to acquire actual armor from these locations In-Character. As.. I imagine we aren't just finding thousands of tomestones laying around to trade to the artifact collector and her subordinates, since pretty much any means of acquiring them through the same places we get them mechanically would require our characters to.. actually be Warriors of Light. I don't know, I suppose I really shouldn't /have/ to explain how or why my character is wearing Ironworks Magitek gear, or the Lost Allagan stuff. But I would like to, because I kind of imagine they would be a lot more protective than the standard clothing they wear, and they are adventurers, after all. I guess can handwave it, or perhaps find someone IC who claims do be able to craft/forge these things.
  2. Hey there! Think I actually saw you.. either.. Earlier today or last evening, Tae could certainly use some friends, and some lawful good ones at that. He's sort of Lawful neutral himself, and I imagine there would not be much clash in their way of thinking. Can add me in game, character is Tae'jic Xaul or hit me up on discord, if you got it: Snurkshurk#6518
  3. So, was digging around a little, trying to find some answers, but wasn't really getting much of anything in regards to my particular questions, so I thought I'd post them up and see what everyone thought, or what people feel would be acceptable. So, going to cut right to the chase, Tomestone/Raid Trade-in Armors and gear. Just how would someone acquire such things In-Character? Like, a couple of them I feel would make sense and be easy to explain, since they are more or less just different cloth like materials. [though that begs another question of just how strong certain materials are as we level up and progress..] But gear like.. the Ironworks Magitek or the Lost Allagan stuff, or any of the Alexander Raid armors. How does one come across those? Do the Ironworks or Rowena's people just.. craft this stuff? Is that what the Tomestones are for? Crafting methods? How would characters IC acquire tomestones to actually trade in to get such things, if that is the only method thought possible? I suppose one could just handwave and just 'oh yeah I found it', but.. I don't wanna do that. These are things I want to work and develop towards In character. What other methods might people consider allright? I had a thought that maybe scavenging/Salvaging like.. Garlean armor, weapons, gear, metals to trade with Rowena's people, or the Ironworks people to put towards helping forge armor might be an idea? Or would it just be simpler to assume that Gil is the answer to everything?
  4. *Puts away his copy of the Necronomicon ex Forumus.* Hello peoples, I am back! .. Again, imagine people are a little confused as to why I could bring back my old post once more. ... Well, it's because of life circumstances causing problems that made it difficult to maintain playing the game, and sort of lost communication with people. Think like, the only person I've been seeing on my friendlist was someone I ran dungeons with a couple times. I have trouble breaking into public rp, and can't get myself to really.. post or wander around the Quicksand unfortunately. However would love to sit down and chat with people, find a good time to introduce characters, or to even RP on Discord if work schedules are a problem, which they frequently are because I work retail and I have no solid work schedule, other than I almost exclusively work weekdays [thankfully]. Fairly open to ideas, and Tae'jic is a lot more in the open world now, instead of sort of being locked into La Noscea because he worked with the Maelstrom the most. That said, feel free to contact me in game, Tae'jic Xaul or on Discord as: SnerkSherk#6518 Looking forward to chatting and RP with all the peoples, and getting over this block that we call Shyness, or.. anxiety, or whatever. o/
  5. I feel so awful. I've been trying to get a grasp of how to tank, To shake things up seeing as I've mained DPS my entire life in every MMO I've ever played. Wanted to run a Level Roulette to see how far it would take me from 28 in one go. Get Halatali. I IMMEDIATELY let the party I got know, that I am new to tanking, and I am apologizing in advance, I get a 'ur good' and 'kay', so I figured they are okay with it, and just want an easy roulette. Queue shenanigans. I struggled to maintain aggro on just about every pull. I don't know if I just don't have the rotations down, or if it was because I was undergeared or proportionally that much weaker than the rest of them [who were all likely 60+ outside of the dungeon], a WHM, PUG and RDM. Then I suddenly have a fit of unstable internet service, get disconnected after the second boss, and disconnected when the final boss was at 7%. Needless to say, I feel like I was most certainly one of the worst tanks they've seen in a long time, and I want to apologize to them. Though I am unsure if they would ever see this. Ugh.. I didn't think it'd be THIS hard. I knew Tanking was not a cake walk, but.. Fudge. I need to get better.
  6. So. Totally not just.. necroposting, it's not necroposting if I'm bumping my old topic, right? ... Right? But! Long story short, much like the plenty of others returning to the game for the expansion, I'm spending more time trying to play, and more specifically, Roleplaying! Posting in my topic because public rp is still scary. I should get a handle on that sometime. Character is still Tae'jic, though he's looking to take a break away from the Maelstrom, do less things for the military, and do things more for himself. See more of Eorzea, even travel across the sea [maybe? will have to figure out how to explain the time skip, or.. skipping the time skip..] Also looking for an excuse for him to learn to be a Samurai [because I'm a huge weeb, sorry.] So, if perhaps there is someone who is willing to teach, or even train alongside. They could be rivals! Friendly rivals. Maybe. Tae'jic is quite friendly, and easy to get along with, he's pretty easy going, but still enjoy a good scrap every now and then.
  7. Just.. poking my nose back in here, giving a little bump, putting it out that I'm still lookin' for some friends to ease into roleplaying again!
  8. Hey! So.. instead of starting a new topic, just going to go ahead and revive one of my old posts. Hopefully not breaking any sort of necroposting if it's with my own topic? Currently just looking for some people to act as friends, or contacts for Tae'jic. Maybe even a rival~. A Miqo'te that happens to be a Storm Corporal, as previously mentioned. Not much progress appears to have been made in rank, woops. He can easily most often be found doing patrols through Limsan areas, or just guarding Aetherytes in any Limsa location. He's a friendly guy, out going and enjoys a good adventure or a fight, helping others just comes natural to him. Either a Neutral Good or Lawful Good type. Just.. shy, surprisingly for a militant man, huh? As for myself, I have a very sporadic work schedule. Some days I open, some days I close, so I'm all over the place. Also in CST myself. My absences from game were never due to a lack of interest in the game, just more.. financial. Now that I've secured a full time position, I don't see myself dropping away from the game so long as I can keep myself involved with a community. Anyway, welcome to drop a line here, or shoot me a PM. Look forward to getting to meet people.
  9. By force, more than likely! So. I've had the idea for a Dunesfolk Lalafell character that would be a very scholarly type, always a nose in their books, studying, trying to understand Aether and such better. I know, super original. Haven't quite got a solid idea yet, was hoping to maybe get an interest check of some sort! Someone, or multiple someones whose characters, perhaps a nice lalafell or two, are willing to drag the poor Lala out to see the world. Even if they have to drag him kicking and screaming. Finalizing the character idea for the moment, however. Stuck on a name, which is really the only hang up, and potentially a Class and Job, prolly Conjurer to start, and go from there, because books! But yeah, would love to try and play out this character, so hope to make some contacts for the little nerd. - Edit: Woops! I.. may have messed up a bit. I forgot about the Server Character Creation Restrictions. For some reason I was under the Impression that once you had a character on the Server, you could make more. Or if you have one there, you can transfer one in. I was horribly mistaken! However, still would like to make some connections, maybe chat here or through a chat program to finalize ideas and such.
  10. So. I've been playing FFXIV off and on for a while now, took a bit of a several month long break, and decided to come back and give the game another shot. I really do enjoy this game, it's beautiful, it's fun, and I've had over all decent experiences with it. However, the fun only lasts for so long when playing by myself, without friends and such. I was in an RP Free Company before, and I actually got along with everyone on an OOC level, however I was constantly overwhelmed by just how many people were around and IC at any given time, it was intimidating and I ended up mostly just being a wall flower at most events. I would like to change that, take small steps, work my way up to larger group rps and such. I tend to be almost annoyingly shy, but I think that attempting to post here is the first step towards improving myself. As for my character? I have a Maelstrom Storm Corporal Miqo'te, goes by Tae'jic Xaul, so I do welcome sudden Whispers/tells. However I'm presently trying to revamp him, so that he's not just a copy/paste of my other characters from different MMOs. So would love some tips and pointers on that, as well. So, that's all I got for now, look forward to chatting and making friends, maybe engaging in some RP!
  11. Well, seeing as I finally got around to doing as much character designing as I can for my character, it's about time I actually sat down and.. got myself to RP. Been Role-playing for years, but getting myself established on a new MMO has always been my bane, just so.. shy, or nervous, I guess! Storm Corporal Technic Foxtale, at least that's what he prefers to go by, good luck getting his real name out of him, is a dedicated member of the Maelstrom Grand Company. While I did want to make him a full-time member, it doesn't seem like there are very many people who play such, usually ignoring the GC or not making it a big focus of the character. There was actually a very interesting topic about it, but I didn't want to necropost in it. Either way, enough rambling, I suppose I am looking for the possibility of having him encounter others who are part of the Maelstrom for assignments or working together. As well as just making friends. Though if not part of the GC, welcome to approach him for assistance with something, Tech is a friendly Miqo'te who is eager to meet others and help any way he can. [wish I could say the same about myself again, nervous-type. XP] I'm not super great at setting up scenarios/situations, but am up for discussion either here or directly in game through /tells for setting something up! Welcome to leave a post here, send me a PM, or just a /Tell. Anywaaay.. uh, hope to bump into y'all in game, sometime, and such. : D [Yes.. uh, this seems a lot like a really goofy 'introduction' post, but honest it's a poorly done making connections post, honest!]
  12. Thank you all so much for answering. Admittedly I had thought about it being a codename or nickname, Just helps when people agree on it, I suppose so thank you! Now to figure out what his real name would be. Figure he's fond of his nick/code name and would use it favorably over his own. And how he got the nickname. While I figure having some technical know-how or enjoys tinkering/repairing things would work. Is it commonly accepted for characters in RP to have an understanding of the Magitek? ..Though I suppose since we do get the magitek mounts it would be quite possible. Pardon all the ah.. doubting questions, I'm just curious and have a passive fear as coming up as too Marty-stu with this character if he knows/does certain things. I'm just a weirdo about such details, I suppose. Otherwise I can just go with the Gunsmith related ideas. Or something. Thank you for your input, and welcome to toss other ideas as well, thank you for the help, really.
  13. So, while I sort of have an idea in mind, typically I just use the same character blueprint as I do with any RP I do in MMOs, my major hangup is that I'm not really sure what to do for a back story with my Miqo'te, Technic. Which right off the bat you will noticed he does not follow any of the naming conventions that are in place, and part of me really doesn't feel like throwing down 10 bucks for the change. From my understanding, that would leave being an orphan or adopted as to would allow for such a bizarre name? Even then, 'Technic' seems far fetched for any races name. It's just the name I use for just about everything, maybe I should stop clinging to it so desperately. I s'pose I'm asking what would be an acceptable reasoning for such an odd name, a reason that won't make everyone just roll their eyes and go 'Ugh, here we go again with another of these'. At the very least, while I have his personality set, I would like him tied to the Maelstrom Grand Company somehow, like in Character he is among the ranks. Other than that I'm having a little trouble with ideas for back-story. So yeah, asking for a little help with that? Not sure if here or Making Connections would've been the right board to post in.
  14. Hello, hello. Been playing for a couple days now, wanting to get a class to level 20 for my personal 'RP-able Threshold' comfort zone. Dunno why I do it, just makes me feel comfortable again. Now I'm eager to try and get myself into the RP Community for FFXIV, obviously, otherwise I wouldn't be here! But I have a couple of hangups still. I think I'm having a lot of trouble picking up on Lore for this game, the usual stuff really, like race mannerisms, common terms used in conversation, that sort of stuff. I've already read up that chilling in the Quicksand is a good way to get a feel for things, just I suppose I should just sit back and find a well written wiki on everything, huh? My other big hangup really, is that while I can chat for hours on end OOC, when I try to slip In Character I lock up in 'meeting new people' situations. Which for this game would include just about everyone. So kind of curious how anyone else who might have that problem sort of.. deals with it? I'm not sure how to word it, how to get around just nervousnessly locking up and just not being able to get involved. Other than that, I do hope to make some friends and get myself involved in this Community, see you all around in game. ... Oh right, my Main is a Miqo'te named Technic Foxtale, which I'm pretty sure doesn't follow any of the normal naming mechanics so I hope no one jumps down my throat about that.
