I could be wrong, so don't quote me on this, but I've heard that the GMs are taking that kind of thing seriously now, and you can get banned for it.

As someone who considered doing the same thing in the past, I'd say it really depends. Most of the other posters made a good point, the same reason I decided against RPing as a Viera at this point in time: The FFXIV lore is very different from that of FFXII or Tactics. IF we get Viera, then there is a very good chance that the lore will be something we didn't even dream of, and your character would suddenly be in a bind, having to explain why their culture and mannerisms are different from that of their brethren. ...sistren? ... Their people. The option is always there to play a viera who has memory loss, as Tregarde suggested, however (for me at least) that somewhat defeats the purpose. If it were a playable race and you really just liked the body but not the culture, that's one thing, but you can't have the body, nor the culture, so at that point you'd just be playing a fairly vanilla character with ears from the gold saucer (if you go that route). If your friend is of the type that is okay with maybe hiding her character's race (hooded cloaks, hats, etc) to all but close RP friends who have been screened ahead of time as being okay with it and with whatever retcons she will likely have to do at some point, then I strongly suggest going for it, because what are we doing as RPers if we're not trying to be creative and have fun? If, however, she's the type that would rather not risk getting into lore arguments with people, it's probably not a good idea, as it would cause undue stress. As for me, I'm trying to leave my character an out so that when/if we do get Viera down the line, I can race change with very little problems or retconning. Fingers crossed! That being said, if you were on Mateus, I'd be happy to try RPing with your friend's Viera Good luck!

Hi all, Like the title says, my husband and I are coming back to FFXIV after a long break. I haven't decided exactly what I want to do yet as far as my character goes (though I have a few ideas I'm playing with,) but I do know that I'd love to have some friends to talk to/hang out with to make the transition easier, and I'm in the market for LSes, and an RP FC, preferably a smaller or even a newer one. I'm currently on the Mateus server, name: Cirina Qalli. Anyway, looking forward to a new start, and to hopefully getting to know some new people! :thumbsup:

Hello! So, I'm going to say straight away, up until now I was bit really badly by the 'can't decide on a character and constantly buying fantasias' bug. But that's all over now, I'm supremely happy with the character I have and have absolutely no desire or plans to ever change again. That being said, I'm really hoping to meet some new people to RP with on a regular basis. Here's some tidbits about my character that might help: She's a full-blood Xaela, but she's albino, hence the paleness. She's very sensitive to sunlight, and has to keep herself covered in a lotion that protects her skin, that smells very strongly of cinnamon and wildflowers. Her eyesight during the day is also very poor, but she manages well enough, and tries to hide it when she can. She used to be a member of a small-ish to medium-ish Dotharl tribe offshoot, but she's seen too much death now, and her tribe is believed to be all dead, so she's moved on. She is now a pacifist when it comes to the spoken races, and while she'll defend herself and her loved ones if absolutely necessary, she prefers to not hurt anyone if she can help it. She also is studying any/all types of healing she can get her hands on, focusing mostly at the moment on Alchemy, and the Scholar-ly arts. If we happen to get dancer as a healer come 4.0 then I'll probably be focusing on that instead of Scholar, but for now Scholar it is. Her main healing focus is the study of diseases, and curing diseases, but she also has a fairly strong focus on death that she tends to keep to herself. She is fairly skilled in animal husbandry, as well as survival skills and tracking skills in the wild, though she is still learning the flora and fauna native to Eorzea, being somewhat new to the area. She's skilled at repairing things, and upkeeping armor and weapons, but she's trying to learn how to make things from scratch as well. She also enjoys cooking and baking, and will happily make food for anyone that stops by the FC house, which doubles as a cafe. She is in a steady relationship, so I am NOT looking for romantic RP connections, just friendly or professional, or even unfriendly/rival ones. I do have a wiki up for her, though I'm still working on adding pictures and things to it, but it has the basic information. There's a link in my signature. Sadly I have to admit that the majority of that I have been actively trying (though it's admittedly been burning me out lately, hence my not being on as much the past few days.) I've tried tumblr in the past with little success, I've gone to a few events, with a friend, actively RPing and looking for people to draw in who look alone whenever we see them. I have tried to talk in Ex's Linkshell often enough, and I always offer to help run things whenever I can (I happen to love running dungeons, especially leveling dungeons) but I am a little shy (I have my good days and my bad days) so sometimes I get drowned out and just stop trying for a little while. I guess the point of what I'm trying to say is back to my original topic, where it's frustrating sometimes being a veteran roleplayer who knows all the usual tricks, but 'has' to be on an overly populated server with established communities that are much harder to break into than the norm (at least in my experience). There's still a part of me that wants to try to establish a community on another server, but I'm not sure if there are enough other RPers like me who have difficulty on Balmung and would be willing to try, and I'd miss the few people I do happen to know and have fun with on Balmung. Though I guess that's what alts are for (I have this fascination with lalafell alts that I can't quite explain.) Anyway I've gone a little off topic, but I'm still interested in communities on other servers, even if it's just for an alt. If anyone reading this happens to know of one that I can be invited to please let me know.

We try to post event announcements to the Levelers LS if we're attending and anyone is welcome to come along. It may be a bit tough though for intimate RP since the chat scroll is real. (Kind of like any over-crowded party where you can't hear the guy standing next to you yelling in your ear. ) We also have a Wednesday evening drop-in RP thing at the Bramble Lodge, but attendance has been low due to the summer lull / people taking a break til 3.4. If it's something you may like, just mention it on the LS or to me through pm and I'll run over! You guys are both awesome and I'd love to hang out. <3 That sounds fun! And btw your LS is probably the biggest/only real bright spot we've really found on Balmung. I'd love to get a chance to get to know some of the people in the LS better.

My husband and I have tried going to a couple of events or places like the Quicksand, but they seem to be very... 'chat spammy' so it's very difficult to meet new people. On top of that, most of the LSes we've found or joined seem to have established cliques that make it a bit hard to get involved with anything. Obviously I'm not saying everything or everyone's like that, we've just had bad luck so far that's all. We're going to keep trying, but I'll keep an eye out for the communities that have been recommended so far. Thank you guys

Hello, I've been thinking about transferring off of Balmung (been having a really hard time getting into the community here) and I was hoping to move to a less populated server. I've been trying to get a hold of someone on Siren, as it seems there's a community there but I haven't had any luck. Does anyone know of a small but at least moderately active RP community on another server? Preferably with a LS I can join?
