  1. I'm back! Had to deal with a lot of stuff I wish I didn't, but I'm back around and looking for some potential contacts! Most of the stuff from my first post hasn't changed, so if you take a read, let me know and we'll try to work some scenes out! Thanks for reading!
  2. The paper had intrigued her- enough so that she'd actually put off diving into her third pipira of the night long enough to read it. To be quite honest, maybe a little knowledge of what was coming would be quite useful. She'd fold and pocket the paper and try to remember to seek out this small medium sometime in the near future.
  3. So that didn't go as planned- many thanks and good feelings towards everyone who answered, even if I ended up pulling an ostrich and shoving my head into the sand that is the MSQ and the crafting system instead of contacting you (thanks, shyness, please go away now, okay?). So I'm just posting this in case someone out there feels like taking a chance on me as far as roleplaying. I'll be better this time, I promise...
  4. Dear newbie(?) healer in our group running Titan Normal: You're new, we get that. But when Titan rears up and goes for his first Geocrush, please remember not to stand in the red at the very edge of the platform- you know, that bit of the arena that's going to crumble into the abyss, taking you with it? Geocrush is going to hit everybody in the arena, just heal through it and we'll thump him. Also, please don't cuss us out when we tell you not to stand in the red and then proceed to do so two more times after this. It's impossible for a synced party to beat any form of Titan without a healer. We're just trying to help you get the clear, and if you'll just listen to us, we'll get said clear- but I just hope you took the lesson with you when you quit our group to go do something else. I'm kind of torn if you were either just stubborn or being a troll- I'm leaning towards stubborn this time around, mostly because Titan is the first real difficulty spike in the game, and he can be a real pain in the butt if given half a chance. (I ought to know, I hate all three of his forms with a burning passion.) But unless you open up and get an idea as to what you have to do, you'll be stuck here for a while.
  5. The scene? A run through Gubal on normal, facing down the boss of the run. We'd managed to get this far (and seen nothing but MNK armor drop), and I figure that well, the boss isn't that hard (everybody knows the Demon Tome is the hardest fight of the dungeon), and we ought to be out with little fuss. The others seem to know what they're doing, at least- a Black Mage, Astrologian and Warrior rounding out the team. So we commence the fight, and everything goes well- we seal up the first Void Call, and get him down to about thirty percent HP. That's when things go, well... The boss opens up and starts casting a mid-level Void Call (four panels each requiring two or three people to block), and the three of them go to one panel, and me as a solo go to another panel, waiting for two more to join me so we're not drowning in adds. The meter keeps slowly filling, yet nothing's happening- so I look over to the others. They're just standing there, watching the meter fill. I know they know how the fight works- they stopped the first Void Call, and they can see the other portals. But unlike then, they're just doing nothing, and right in the middle of me typing a message telling them to seal the rest of the panels, Void Call goes off, and I immediately get to make a new friend as an add spawns on my shadow and tries to introduce itself by pulling my stomach out through my navel. In the end, though, we did pull it out- even if it was much closer than it should ever have been. What should have been an easy finish turned into one where it looked like we were going to have to pull it out by the skin of our teeth, but lucked out instead. I was a bit peeved, but I left the instance before I said anything I'd really regret. Why in the blazes would you let the boss make the fight any harder than it needs to be? We could have sealed them up and finished the boss- I had a fresh charge of Battle Litany and BotD ready to go. Is there any advantage to letting Void Call go off- some strategy I'm just not seeing? I kind of always think that adds are a bad thing... Another, smaller vent: Why the hell do I get shyness attacks when I try to go RP-ing? There could be a slate of events I want to hit, but it always feels like I manage to talk myself out of going ("Oh, they'll never want to be involved with your character. They'll think your storyline is stupid and not want to play with you. Why not spend the evening crafting and trying to make gil?") and I miss out on stuff like the Crescent pub crawl that I'd been looking forward to for a week. It's so frustrating to see an event that's cool or to make plans with others and then just never let them go anywhere just because of my own insecurities over how they might view Caleria. I know there's at least one person I owe an apology to for that...
  6. 1) Mog Station Outfit 2) Sophic Barding 3) Fenrir Pup 4) Tier 2 Aquarium Thanks for running this!
  7. When will the final list of participating FCs be posted?
  8. The issue I had was that yes, the tank was holding aggro- so much aggro that the healer was having a hard time keeping them alive. I play DRG in that I'm more effective against one mob at a time- I join the tank in beating on whatever mob they've chosen, in order to kill things faster (unless there's something like a nix-type enemy with a huge AoE move that requires a liberal amount of stunning to avoid the run getting all bashed up). DRG doesn't have that much in the way of distance or multi-target attacks (jumps and the lance-throw come to mind for distance, stuff like Ring of Thorns for multi-target), so I'm usually up with the tank taking my lumps and trying to avoid AoEs as best I can. Sometimes I don't get out of the way quick enough; other times the attacks just end up layered in a way that it's impossible to get out of the way in time and you end up getting smacked around. I use the potions to help keep strain off the healer- being able to pop 2400 healing is awfully useful if you're in the thick of it. But if the healer's overwhelmed just trying to keep the tank on their feet, well... 2400 doesn't go very far in some dungeons, especially when you have lots of mobs around. If the tank pulls so many mobs that the healer is having trouble keeping them alive while we try to get the damage under control, I think that's on the tank. It's always been my view that tank pulls mobs, but the healer sets the pace of the run- as DPS, it's my job to just kill whatever the tank's beating on and then move to the next target unless instructed otherwise. There's only so much I can do to peel enemies off the tank if I know I have to watch my HP and the only buff I have is some food I burned for the Vitality bonus (much easier for a healer to cast a Cure II than it is a Raise, yeah?), and DRG is built to go one-by-one, killing single enemies dead instead of just spamming Ring of Thorns until either the tank goes down or we manage to hang on.
  9. Ended up in Keeper of the Lake for a roulette and had, well... a rather trying time. Me as DRG, with a BRD as second DPS, and a couple I can only describe as Zippy the Wonder Tank and his bestest friend Skippy. Both are running lalas and seem to know each other- interacting with emotes, burning pumpkin-head charms, throwing one round of Protect on three of four party members and leaving me out in the cold... First boss comes and go, and our BRD ends up DC'ed, so we votekick. Here's where things start going rather south- Zippy is apparently feeling his oats, so instead of taking five and waiting for a replacement DPS, off zooms Zippy with Skippy right behind him after both pop pumpkinhead charms. We head on up and fight through a couple of groups of mobs by the skin of our teeth, and end up wiping when Skippy feels their oats and double-pulls two bunches of mobs. I start to type after we re-phase in, but Skippy is doing his best Sonic impersonation and I barely have time to refresh my food buff before I have to go bust up mobs to bail him out. We come close to wiping after that, but the arrival of our replacement DPS bails us out. I'm only one DPS, folks... I get right up in there and take my lumps, but there's only so much I can do by myself. Protect and Stoneskin are my best friends, and leaving me without them gives me all the staying power of bathroom tissue in a boss fight., especially if I have to keep popping Mega-Potions just to stay in the fight. I don't like playing chicken with bunches of mobs just because the tank is bouncing around like a sugar-stuffed over-caffinated lalafell and can't take a hint that hey, maybe we ought to take five and wait for another DPS so we're not taking every fight down to the line? Second gripe... I admit that there are some dungeons out there with long movies- but the one kind of jerk I can't stand is anybody who tries to votekick a newbie who's watching the movies in Castrum Meridianum and the Praetorium on their very first time through. For the love of Eorzea, they'll have enough time to speedrun the whole place later and we're all so overgeared that we might just scuff our armor on the Ultima Weapon. Let her watch the damned cutscenes if she wants- you only get one first time through the MSQ, and throw her a commendation or two at the end because your first time through deserves it. Some of us like following the story instead of just watching numbers bounce around.
  10. Caleria's is easy- give her a nice, big tub of hot water and assorted bath stuff and you won't see her for most of the day. Light forbid she ever discovers a hot spring resort... she'll never leave and end up a wet, wrinkly furball. "Uhm... miss? It's time to get out, we have to clean the bath..." "No! I'll poke you! Go away!"
  11. 1b74YehJMEQ Ran across this one and immediately tagged it as an inspiration song.
  12. Thanks to everyone who posted! I ought to be getting in contact at some point soon (provided the weather behaves...)!
  13. Introduction: Heya! Thanks for taking the time to read this! I'm pretty sure you've seen me posting a bit- getting help with my character background, banging away at my wiki page (now in some semblance of order), and writing to fill months-old RP prompts- I'm looking forward to meeting some of you out there, hopefully! But first, a little about me: - Been role-playing for a long while, been writing fiction for about that same while- have some experience over with WoW, Champions, and a few other games I just tried for a month or two. - My playtime is usually consistent- usually late afternoon to possibly all night Eastern U.S. time (I work really odd hours...), but I'll play when I get the time, whenever I get it! If I can't get on for a scheduled play, I'll try to let you know via PM! You can reach me either in-game or through here- I'll always check here before I go into the game! - I'm good doing anything from para to multi-para, provided you don't start giving me grief if it takes a few minutes to type up everything; along the same lines, don't expect me to write a multi-paragraph post over something like just opening a door. Give me something to work with, yeah? At the same time, it's okay to use a few lines if they'll suffice. Who wants to wait in a tavern? - There will be times when I just don't feel up for roleplay; but instead want to go stomp on things PvE style until they stop moving. Please understand that sometimes I just want to go and level and play, yeah? I'm still not max level, so please bear with me? - I like pretty much all kinds of RP- one-offs, short term, long-term- but please just make it clear what you're interested in and we can go from there, yeah? Please be up-front about it; where do you want the story to go? - Caleria has an overarching plot planned for her about the loss of her memory and her work to regain it. This will take a long time, and you don't have to be involved in it if you don't want to be. Honestly, I'd love if she could find one or more people to help her out- support her, point her in the right direction, maybe give her a talk when she needs it- and if needed, it could happily go both ways- Caleria supports her friends! Character Overview: Caleria Amih - check the wiki page if you need to know more! Possible Plot Hooks: - Casual! Maybe Caleria is just getting a drink after a long day of working, and you come on over and say hello? - Working... Caleria's picking up a new line of work, and she could use a teacher. Maybe you take her underneath your wing? - Patrolling! Maybe you're out there and in trouble, somewhere in the Shroud, and Caleria ends up pulling your bacon out of the fire? - Got an idea of your own? Let me hear it! You're part of the story too, yeah? Notes and Other Stuff: - I enjoy romantic RP as much as the next person, but let's keep OOC and IC stuff separate, yeah? If things work out, they work out, if they don't, they don't. If you're just looking for ERP just because you want ERP, you might look elsewhere, too- not that I'm against it, but it's not the be-all-end-all (I'm also perfectly happy with fades to black, too). I imagine elezen, miqo'te, hyur and female Au Ra might have decent luck... - If you'd like to know more about her long-term plot, drop me a message! I'll tell you what I've got so far, and if you'd like to be part of it, we can work it out! - I'm hoping someone will take a chance and ask me to be part of their story- maybe it'll be you?

    Yo

Any start is a great start- the more you play the character, the more you'll learn about them, and the more they'll develop with exposure and use. You might find things that would go great with your character idea, other things not so much- feel free to change things around! Read up on lore, read others' character sheets, read lots of other things, play through some public RP events, and find out your likes and dislikes. Ideas can come from anywhere- I tend to keep a little notepad full of potential character ideas, and some days it's worth it to just brainstorm. Never, ever, ever think one of your ideas is not worth your time- there aren't any stupid stories out there, just stories that are waiting for their time. Never be ashamed of doing the same type of storyline as someone else- everybody puts their own spin on every interaction- stories are like people: no two are ever exactly the same, and even the slightest difference can lead you off somewhere you've never expected. All you have to do is get out there and play!
  15. Oh, look who finally remembered to get her pictures back from the MoogleMart one-hour photo drop-off! "...so what? I deserve a lazy day every once in a while, too! ...uggggh, fine... but there better be something in it for me if you want me in my armor..." "There.... or is this just more stuff I've had lying around in the knee-deep slog of stuff I keep in my inn room? *sigh* ...I really need some armor dummies and the like... and more boxes..."
