Family History and Background:
Niah's mother was born to a Keeper of the Moon tribe deep in the Black Shroud. Her Father was born to a Seeker of the Sun tribe and at a young age created his own migratory tribe consisting of a mix of Keeper and Seeker females and himself as the only male.
Niah's mother and father met when his tribe passed through her mother's tribal territory. The two tribes interacted a few times before her mother's Keeper tribe withdrew due to social and ethical disagreements. However it was too late and several females including Niah's mother joined his wandering tribe. Niah's mother quickly became his preferred mate.
Niah was their first child. She always questioned her father's actions as they contradicted her own Keeper instincts. She would often openly disagree and disobey her father resulting in harsh punishments. As she grew older she came to the realization that her father took some amount of enjoyment in his punishing her and she ceased reacting to them. As a result his punishments became harsher.
The last time Niah saw her father was when she lay dying from wounds he had inflicted. It was this event that opened her mother's eyes as to the man she had mated with years ago.
When Niah was recovered enough to move her mother helped her escape to the edge of the forrest where the trees met the desert. Her mother told Niah of her own Keeper tribe and encouraged her to seek them out and start a new life. Niah still remembers her mother's last words to her before vanishing into the forrest, "Your father will believe that you have died of your wounds. If I were to go with you we would the spend the rest of our days running from him. It is too late for me, I have made my choice however flawed it was. Go now, change your name and forget me."
Niah, unable to follow, did as she was bid. She changed her name, but she would never forget. When she was well enough she returned to her father's last camp but the tribe had disappeared leaving no trail that she could follow. She vowed that one day she would find her mother and reunite her with the Keeper tribe she had been born too.
