So, I'm working on my character's, Ophelie Saintrelmaux, backstory. I had multiple ideas, but among them, only one of them was really interesting too: A character that worships a Primal.

I have a question though: how would people react to a character that worships a Primal (Garuda in this case?) By worship, however, I don't mean that the character is tempered and kidnaps people to force them to being tempered or steals crystals to summon Garuda. He/she would worship Garuda just as most characters worship the Twelves and/or Hydaelin. No summonings or kidnappings involved.

By the way, this is how the backstory should look like (not sure if it should be a spoiler, but oh well):

I imagine most other characters would react to her... poorly? I dunno what else to say. xD Unless you mean OOC? I can't imagine most people will mind, as it doesn't go against lore in any way!
Well, I meant both ICly and OOCly. I guess I wasn't really clear. I wanted to know:
1) if (OOCly) I would be considered one of those special snowflakes and/or get avoided.
2) if (ICly) how people would consider my character, because if they considered Ophelie the same as a tempered person, I guess I wouldn't be able to just go around in the main cities.
"Tempering" as a concept is a fairly new thing to happen in Eorzea, so a background of previously praying to Garuda seems plausible. It wasn't until the primal herself could be summoned that she would have tempered/touched/what-garuda-does-to-temper-something-ed minions. But as we've seen with the story, there are usually two factions of the beast tribes. Those who were tempered and are effectively mindless worshipers and those who are not tempered, but still revere their diety.

OOCly: A weird, but interesting concept.

ICly: You'd probably get some very bizarre stares from people, especially if you preeched it out loud. Ones who are more fearful could very well think she's tempered and shun/do-worse-things to her. Remember, she'd still have to show this at some point because people are not (or should not be in most cases) mind readers. What your character does in private should remain private.
Well, Ophelie hasn't really seen the world besides Natalan before, apart from some missions in the North Shroud. She doesn't know that EVERYONE fears Garuda and Primals in general (she has seen someone running in fear or attacking them but she thinks they were just isolated cases), so it WILL happen, at some point, that someone will hear her praying to Garuda. But she won't have loud random outbursts, nor will she try to steal crystals to summon Garuda, UNLESS she's really desperate.
I'd imagine someone being seen praying to Garuda, especially in the Northern Shroud, would find themselves reported to the authorities and hunted by groups like the White Rams very quickly. It's an interesting concept OOCly, but I don't see how the character is going to see much RP in the greater community unless this worship is something that becomes a closely-guarded secret.
Once she realizes that she can't just say things like "Garuda's blessing" and "praise Garuda" around, yeah, it becomes a secret.
And apart from that, she's just an adventurer like others. She isn't tempered, so she can still make friends, love, have fun, etc... As long as she doesn't scare people away.
I don't think Franz would judge her for her beliefs if they ever met.

...but that's also because he doesn't see a difference between primals and The Twelve *innocent Garlean whistle*
People in the real world and in Eorzea worship all sorts of strange things so I, for one, think it's a pretty interesting concept! Bear in mind that your character will likely be seen as an antagonist because Garuda and the Ixal who serve her have killed a great many people. It's a wonderful angle for a potential villain though! Especially if they're misguided rather than outright evil.
Yeah, I guess it's inevitable she'll be seen as a villain. Probably if she tries to prove the opposite, she'll end up looking even more like a villain... Once I can finally get her on Balmung (it might take longer than expected due to personal problems), I'll see in more detail what to do with her. After all it's not all about her, so I can't already say what will happen.
Come up with at least three bizarre Garuda-centric religious practices that she can perform without getting into fights about it. Engage in them, IC, in front of strangers. Watch RP happen.

Seems reasonable.

Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three. Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou RP of Garuda towards thy unsuspecting audience, who, being naughty in Her sight, shall snuff it.

She gets it.

Generally, though, don't be worried about how people will accept the concept long-term. All but the most stalwart guardians of the lore are willing to accept all kinds of things so long as they're "done well," the RPer code for "in a style I prefer/by a player I like." Worry instead about how to attract partners in the first place.

Um, what do you mean exactly by partners?

RP partners. People with whom you will RP on a regular basis.
