So, i'm still pretty new to the game but I have a lot of RP experience under my belt. Usually most MMO's have some nice hot spots where I can doddle or talk to people to be swept up into some good RP. I was wondering if there was anywhere like that here on the Gilgamesh server. If not, it'd be nice to know of some places or people who'd certainly like to get together for a session or two.

Well, the Quicksand in Ul'dah is where most people tend to go, but that being said it's usually incredibly crowded. There are a few LSes built for people looking for rp connections as well, if you'd rather try that method instead. (I actually run one but I'm on Balmung myself.) Any of the adventurer's guilds though, including Limsa and Gridania, tend to have rpers in them almost all of the time.

On Gilgamesh, much of the RP happens within the housing districts. There's a few active RP FCs over in the Goblet, Ward 3 that I see RPing in and around their houses quite frequently, my own FC included (The Black Sails). Folks have also been working on setting up an open RP hub in Ul'dah, specifically the Quicksand so don't be discouraged about visiting there as well!
Also, I would highly recommend checking out
gilgamesh-rp.com, as it is where much of the Gilgamesh community visits, rather than the RPC. It should hopefully help you with seeking more RP connections. Good luck!
