Hello guys.

I'd like to see if anyone would be interested in attending/helping with making a guided tour through (a part of) Eorzea. The concept is fairly straight forward, we'd pick 1-2 zones, or a city state all depending, and find a way of retelling the common history for the area and its locations, maybe combined with some folk-tales of a sort.
So, much like you'd have city tours in the real world for tourists, just in Eorzea and a bit larger of scale + a bit more dangerous.

The events could be a good idea of learning lore for newcomers, but I'd imagine it would attract characters with a general thirst for knowledge, as well as characters that simply enjoy walking about the world like that.

If there's enough interest, I will need some help with amassing information. I know a lot of lore, but I never went in depth with each zone and even if I did, there'd probably still be something I missed.
My character would be good as a tour guide, but it certainly wouldn't hurt to have more than one (also because I wont be able to run events during the US primetime).. So overall I would love to collaborate with some people on this. It's a bit of a mouthful to undertake alone ^^
There would likely be an IC cost involved with the tours, but I am not interested in seeing real gil involved. The IC cost is simply for flavors sake, just like you'd likely pay a tutor to teach you something in other situations.

So anyways. Would you be interested in joining an event like this and if so which zones would you suggest for a tour?
This sounds like a really neat idea!

Some places of interest that could be fun for lore:
  • Ruins of Nym / Bronze Lake / Wanderer's Palace
  • Burning Wall
Would it be the type of thing where there's be some timed macros for the text/explanations?
Mememe! I couldn't really help guiding or with lore as I'm sure there are people far better qualified than me, but I would definitely go! I'm partial to La Noscea, especially the Bronze Lake area with the Nymian ruins, but that's just me.

I reckon that at least some of it would have to be copy/paste or timed. Chat-bug-gods be willing, and all. Otherwise it might take a long time - though it shouldn't be feeling boring either. I reckon preparing an excessive amount of information, then picking and going on the fly as the situations demand, maybe let people ask questions as well and such, might be a good approach.
On the incredibly rare chance that a tour of Ul'dah is happening at the time Clover and I are RP'ing in-game there, then we'll surely take up the chance.
Makyn would definitely attend.

He'd get to learn something new! Big Grin
My characters would certainly be interested. Smile

Might be good around 3.0 as well, with plenty of new Au Ra wondering what Eorzea is all about.
Hello! I've actually been toying with an idea like this for some time, and I'm glad you're starting it. My character would probably enjoy such tours, and might even be willing to be a tour guide for areas she's actually familiar with.

I think such tours could take one of two strands - 1) lore, 2) oral history  (i.e. guides would most likely be centred around the city-states). The latter could even take the form of a pre-Calamity memorial tour, as a means of heritage preservation? The best tour guides are, IMO, those with strong personalities and who imbue much of their commentary with personal anecdotes, so I think this could also provide some nice storytelling and interaction between guides and participants as the former take people around their childhood homes.

Whatever the case, I think guided tours are a great idea, and schedule / timezone permitting, I'd love to be in on this.

No, this is one of the cases where I think text macros would be good! Load up the character-based camera, back-peddle when walking to engage the "audience". ...and it'd help if there was a general template so future guides could "replay" a given tour. ...maybe add in some quirks to make it personal.
Eorzean Expeditions!

Sounds like a neat idea Smile

I hadn't even thought about back-peddling, that's actually a good idea. I'll see if I can come up with a template in the process as well. Completed tours could be saved in a shared google drive folder (I am pretty sure you can share them these days) or similar so that they could be accessed, with whatever feedback they might have gotten as well.

We can always paste them in spoilered code tags here too!

First thing I thought about when reading "Eorzea Tour"

Can be a cool idea Smile
Yes! So many big yesses!! This would be such a cool way for our characters to have a chance to leave our normal zones and see some new ones!
My character would definitely be interested in attending these too. ... He.. is so helplessly lost basically always.

But being 'new to the surface', and also 'seeking all Knowledge' (nevermind his constantly lost status), he'd find these things very interesting and useful. ... He'd probably be one of those guys that has a billion questions about the thing. And taking notes. And being a Complete Tourist Nerd.

That said, I am all for this kind of event, and would definitely throw my character at it, schedule permitting. uvu
