((Oh, dear. Kicking it right off the bat into the RP... Hell yeah!))

It seemed that somebody had placed a rather sneaky notice up just inside of the walls of Ul'Dah - pinned onto an overhead stall hanging of the Merchant's Row, where the owner wouldn't notice as they hawked their wares, and passers-by were able to take in an excellent look at it. Who could afford to pay for advertising rights in such a prime location, after all? It was rather hard not to see it - what, with the portrait of a young black-haired man winking somewhat promiscuously at the audience with a rather cheesy grin, capped off with a finger pointing straight ahead like some sort of adventurer, the picture itself bordered with a rather gaudy array of rainbow arrangements and a disturbing shade of scarlet as the background for the whole note.

Below this bright, colourful display, written in a very fine hand - although perhaps rushed, - would read in golden words, contrasting against the red backdrop:

"KUSUMURA MIROKOSHAI!
BOUNTY HUNTER EXTRAORDINAIRE!

You need something done? I DO IT! I fix everything from chocobo tacks and saddles to relationships! No problem too big or small!
Neighbour getting under your bonnet? I'll give him a complimentary pair of concrete shoes for the trouble!
Monsters causing property damage? I'll handle them, protect the kids AND rebuild anything destroyed!

Offering my services of 'problem-fixing' in exchange for all currencies, favours, promissory notes, alliances and drinks. Prices are based on situational needs and requirements, bargained and decided pro-rata. Extended contractual periods available."

The individual advertising himself so would be lingering nearby, taking a mental snapshot of each interested party. Of course, Kusumura didn't leave any contact details - he didn't really know how people communicated in these lands, only passing through on travels elsewhere once or twice before. Ah, hey! There was time to figure it out later!

/Roleplay

xD. Felt like getting that out. Seemed like the place to do it! Greetings! I'm Phil, and I play Kusumura! I am an Aussie, Virgo, and looking for a good roleplay experience in an MMO. The only experience I have with FFXIV was messing around with the game for a week or two at launch (Eesh.. I shelled out $120 for the CE on the week of my birthday), which obviously.. didn't go down so well. But, hopefully, with the new updates being implemented soon, things will pick up, and I'm going to be here for that ride!
Haha, I love the intro Big Grin

Welcome to the RPC. If you see me around, don't hesitate to start up some RP (I really don't do much in game anyway aside from standing around Ul'dah more often than not xD).
Welcome to the RP community!
Thank you, guys! I'm lovin' the love! xD.

Now, the Kusumura character I created previously seemed to be going quite well.. until I tried going around Camp Bentbranch and uhm. Crashed. Now I can't log in at all to the server with that character without the game crashing into firey powers of darkness with redness and whiteness.. I detect stupid things happening here. Could it be that I needed to manually override the patcher during installation (game.var and patcher.var files were altered)? Eh, who knows.

But, it does look like I'mm'a' be starting again, whatever the case. Good thing I didn't have much, anyway! With regards to RP, do many people do open-RP'ing in FFXIV, or is it a little more.. reserved, sticking to specific groups and story-line members only?
A lot of people have graphics issues in the Black Shroud. It may work for you eventually, don't know how many times you tried. Maybe try opening ONLY ffxiv, lowering the graphics settings, etc.. Just get out of there as soon as you can! Other people who had similar issues got over it somehow. You can also delete this character and make a new one starting in another city.

As for your other questions, it depends on the RPers. Some RP in /party while being in public where technically others would be able to overhear, others keep /party RP for private scenarios like to RP within a house or HQ, because we have no housing, and keep RP in public channels otherwise.

The bigger RP stories and plots I assume vary in how accessible they are. A /tell asking about w/e the person is doing is prolly the best way to go about getting into something like that.
Well, I'll update my drivers and check up a few things after a fresh install (It fully installed this time, without having to resort to overriding anything) and see how that goes. Also making a mental note to stay the kriff out of the Black Shroud. xD.

Back on the RP side of things, pretty standard fare otherwise from the sounds of things. /party for whatever you don't want other people involved in - or to be discreet (-Catgrowl. Rrreeeooowwww! Baby!) - or else /say if you're being open. The only thing I'm wondering, really, is what the ratio for SayTonguearty is. I've been in games where there hasn't been all too many people using /party to hide anything - aside from the reason above - with people joining them and leaving them often (Star Wars: Galaxies, Starsider server being an example) or others where everybody is in /party and giving everyone else not involved with them the snob and cold shoulder treatment (Pretty much any of the grind-based Korean games - which amazes me that they'd offer the cold shoulder, given it's a rather in-bred population of RP'ers in those games, really. Everybody develops the same faults, habits, styles.. 'cause there's only four RP'ers? xD).
There is no simple statistic out there for you, like I said, it depends on the group. The RP population overall has dwindled so the times I see open RP is less than before, but that doesn't necessarily mean it all moved to /party. Basically from my experience, some groups are extroverted others are more introverted, with regards to communication channels. I personally don't mind /shouting IC'ly if my character is shouting... others would have OOC problems with that.
After diddling around in a couple of other games a little.. I'm back! And looking to form up a lower-level group (RP and grinding - at once! Hoo-hah! Wizardry!) to y'know.. make things on FFXIV feel a little more like home. But I'm finding it quite hard to meet anybody my level (~10) that's willing to group-up, but oh well.

If anybody wants to join me, feel free to drop a comment! <3.
I suggest you join a LS since it would be easier to find an RP/level group.
There's also a fairly large OOC linkshell these days, which doesn't hurt if you like to test the waters first. Very active, too.
I don't mind OOC guilds, though for a game where I'm predominantly signing up for the RP (Building though it is), that's the side of the pool I'll try to test first... and hope I happen to come across people my level in the process. xD.

Going with the little introduction above, would anybody be able to recommend an LS that might suit Kusumura's character?
Well, the OOC shell is a great place to meet roleplayers and find roleplay. More often than not we get people going "Hey, anyone want to gather together at X location at Y time for some RP?" Or other things along those lines. It never hurts to have around, but I understand if you'd like to avoid having to go through that kind of channel entirely.

We're rather short on a variety of shells these days. You can check the "Linkshell" tab up at the top of the page for a list of different active shells. There's a few niches out there to chose from.

Suppose I'll shamelessly plug Blue Skies (/shot), as it seems like it might be an open fit for your character. Heavy RP shell. Adventurers, pure and simple. No order or group to tie it's members down. Just people with a passion for adventure. Everyone does whatever they want, whenever they want.

Can find a link to more information in my signature.

Outside of that, T.A.L.E or Corvus Cinis (if Corvus is still around) might also be good fits, though the latter are moderate to heavy RP shells. Everwatch is also another big heavy RP mercenary shell, primarily focused on the defense of the Twelveswood, though not at all limited to that aspect. Oskar here could fill you in more about that, though, being it's leader.
Actually, I had been looking at Blue Skies and Corvus Cinus in the LS page. I suppose the self-plug works here - I most definitely would be interested in checking out Blue Skies. I'll drop an application on the LS' forums!
