This game has been out for what, two weeks now? I was just wondering if anyone else was playing it? I'm actually kind of addicted to it right now. I'm much more of a fan of classic shooters like Quake III Arena and Unreal Tournament than I am this new fad of military based shooters that release every year with minimal changes. And Splatoon is making me remember why I used to love playing Q3 and UT back in the day.

It's focus on inking everything over just shooting other players gives it a really unique feel and lets players who aren't good at shooters really enjoy it as well. I'm having a blast just unlocking new weapons and trying them all out on people online. It's not just slight differences in bullet damage and rate of fire either, the paint rollers and brushes aren't even guns at all.

If anyone is playing it, what are your favorite weapons to use? What sub weapons do you like? What is your favorite special weapon?

Right now, I am loving the .52 Gal Deco, I think it's called? It looks like a drum-fed grenade launcher that is bedazzled with hundreds of pink rhinestones. Yeah, now that's awesome. It just happens to have the right balance of range and damage I like while also having enough rate of fire to effectively ink around me when I'm not in a fire fight. Also the Seeker sub weapon is great for surprising people that aren't looking down, and the Inkstrike that comes with it is my favorite special weapon. I've grabbed the win at the last second with a well placed inkstrike to nab a few more % of the map for my team.
I need this game for my home! Smile
With the release of Splatoon, I'm horribly tempted to go and get myself a WiiU for it and a few other games (Wonderful 101, Smash Brothers, Mario Kart). I play a decent bit of TF2 - a lot less than I used to - and I rather like the idea of a cartoony, fun shooter. Plus, I've been watching a few folks stream it and it all looks quite entertaining. Getting to dress up your character is also always a plus for me.

When (I don't think it's an if at this point anymore) I finally pick it up, I kinda want to get a weapon that has that Kraken power. I think it's just the Roller from what I've seen? Anyway, it just looks neat and I like the idea of going SUPERMODE SQUID on people. RELEASE THE KRAKEN!
I love my WiiU and I have no regrets about getting one what so ever. Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Super Smash Bros WiiU, Mario Kart 8 are all worth the purchase alone.

The Splatroller is the first weapon you'll get that has the Kraken special on it, yes. But through playing single player and finding the hidden weapon plans in each stage you can unlock other weapons that are the same, but with different sub and special weapons on them. I think I just unlocked a Jet Squelcher (a long distance, low rate of fire gun) that has the Kraken on it. Kraken is a really nice "oh-sh*t" button since you can't be splatted (this game's word for killed) while you have it active. Killing people with it does take a little getting used to since you have to leap through them, you can't just swim into them. However, the Kraken doesn't lay down much paint. The Kraken and the Killer Wail are both offensive killing specials that don't help ink very much. The Killer Wail doesn't lay down any ink at all, actually.

That sounds like my sort of combination. Ranged suppression while my teammates paint, with Kraken for quick getaway/close range stuffs. I've seen the "sniper rifle" in a couple streams and it seemed neat... if niche. It seems the way to go is the starting gun and its permutations since it has a higher rate of fire - which leads to covering more territory in ink.
What I've discovered is that you have to find the right balance of inking and killing power. Currently, a lot of people run with the Splatroller, almost always the Krak-On Splatroller, which is just the Splatroller with the Kraken as it's special. Heck, I've been in matches where I am the only person running with a gun at all. People love it because of it's wide, easy to use ink covering ability, and it's one-hit-kills on enemy players, provided you can get close enough to run them over.

For me, I didn't like the Jet Squelcher because it was very hard to lay down ink and help cover areas when you weren't in a firefight.... inkfight... whatever, haha. You might like the chargers, which are this game's sniper weapons. It will take you until level 13 or 14 to unlock the one that actually has a scope on it, however, their range is still shorter than you would expect, and they only ink in a narrow straight line. Actually, my guess is that you would prefer the Splattershot Pro, which is a gun like the starting gun, the Spattershot Jr, except it has a longer range and a lower rate of fire.

But the best part about trying new weapons is that the game lets you test drive them in a special shooting gallery arena before you buy them, and even after you buy them, so you can see exactly how they shoot, how they ink, and how fast they kill target dummies. Its really nice.
I love Splatoon. My partner loves Splatoon. We have spent way too much money on Splatoon merch. x.x

I liked the Splattershot Jr. at first (bubbler is useful in a squeeze), and played roller a lot in the testfires when nobody seemed to know how to counter it well. Now I tend to use the .96 gal and the Kelp Splat Charger. Took me a long time to get used to the charger, but I am attracted to sniper rifles, so I spent a few days sucking at it and finally found ways to be deadly and still cover a fair amount of turf. :) Oh and the '85 Zapper is fun as well, and looks good to boot!

I haven't played since before they added the Kelp Dome (I think that's the name?) so I need to catch up. Such a fun game imo. :D
I'm only level 7 so far but I'm quite fond of the game. I haven't moved away from the original loadout - Rollers seem neat but I don't like the lack of range, and I'm not nearly good enough with sticks anymore to use a charger. The Splattershot Jr. leaves me with the panic bubble and the thrown mine and that's enough for me for right now.

I'll probably never dig into Ranked Play, though. One of my favorite parts of the game is how stress-free the Turf War mode is. 180 seconds, randomized teams even if everyone agrees to fight again. Even if you get curbstomped you have a good chance of ending up on the team of some of the good players.

Now, if only I could determine whether or not to open my Three-miibo pack...
Not yet, but I plan on picking it up at some point soon after my backlog's cleared out a bit. Been playing a lot of Mario Kart 8 online between rounds of XIV, though, so if anybody would like to add The Dragon Reborn to their Friends feel free!
I played on one of the test-fires for the game and I WANTS IT SO BAD!

Seriously, probably one of the most fun shooters I had played since UT.
