Found myself wondering after finally finishing Before The Dawn over the weekend. Regarding Ishgard's seemingly closed door policy to outsiders, how are folks playing it that we are now Ble to access the region ,like for a freelance adventurer type like my character for example.

Not sure if it's been brought up or not as work has kept me to busy to lurk forums that much.
There's mention through the 3.0 MSQ and sidequests that they're starting to slowly contract to outsiders.

Yep. Lots of adventuring outsider NPCs and plenty of quest dialog that acknowledges as such.

Personally for my character Lili I'm going to be leaning on something I started months and months back which was her having a correspondence with some individuals in Ishgard discussing business, airships and other things of note. By this point they'd likely all be comfortable to meet and will send her paperwork so her and her family can come visit on legal terms!

My other characters? Given bits you can glean from quests and NPCs, it's perfectly acceptable to just be a traveler, sell sword, or member of a free company coming to help out.

This helps tremendously, much appreciated, and thanks to the others as well. I was wondering but I had only just gotten into Ishgard sunday for the purpose of unlocking the jobs and attuning to the Aetheryte there. I plan to return back to the other regions for probably a fair bit to continue working on projects I had to put on hold and also feel out the new jobs to help me find how best to work some things into my character.

This was about what my guess wouldve been as to how we would work in entering Isghard in an RP perspective.Moogle
I know my main ended up in Ishgard as a sellsword, once she realized that hostilities between the two groups were escalating (as per 2.5 story stuff).  She and her husband also own a shop in Ul'dah, so she's also made a few business contracts while there.  Over all, she's just found a number of reasons to be past the gates.

Some of my other characters, though, they'd have to literally be sent there, or drug there as part of a RP with other people, as they either have no interest in the conflict, or wouldn't see a benefit to getting involved on either side.
I had taken it otherwise that the WOL was unique in his entrance to Ishgard. however, the end of 3.0 suggests that Ishgard was -then- open to everyone.
