The Flame Festival

This is a public notice to invite the citizens of Thanalan and all her neighbors to a celebration unlike any other. To celebrate the fortune of the city, and to thank it's residents, both wealthy and poor, the Office of the Sultana has declared a day of festive merriment. To that end the Red Wings, a unit of the Immortal Flames, has taken the the initiative and has offered to sponsor and operate the event.

The Festival will last all day, and there shall be several activities for those who wish to partake. Crafters and merchents are welcomed to set up places to sell their wares. There will be dancers to entertain, as well as several events, each with prizes to be announced. So do not delay! Keep watch for further information as it becomes available!

((So here we go with a new server wide event. As of now we are planning it for mid-October, so keep watch here and I will keep you all up to date. Feel free to post here to let me know if you want to help or be involved. Its going to be one of my 6 hour events so there's stuff to do as you like. Also be creative, if you want to come dance for gil-pennies, or set up a booth for ic or ooc business, or whatever you like. Think of this as a renaissance fair, we will set up these main events, and you guys can add to it as you like, just let me know ahead of time you'll be setting up some booth and I'll add it here. I'm going to make a master list of booths and events here, so have fun.

And also spread the word, many rpers on Balmung besides the one's here. Let's get the whole server involved for the fun of it.

A Bard's Tale: Herald's Challenge

"You may believe yourself to be awash in glory, a victor over death, a champion of the round, a deity of war, but for how long? Today's triumph will be naught but a wistful memory for you, soon enough, forgotten by women, overshadowed by men of more recent spectacle, lost to the haze of time. It need not be so. What you have in skill, you lack in presentation, in appeal, in that verve by which heroes are remembered, and all others are but casualties of time; yet, there remains hope for your legacy. You need a bard, a herald, a voice as adroit in advancing your fame as you are in fighting for it. The one praised by the bards, sung by the skalds, held high by heralds, is the one who becomes immortal in tale and tune. All others, in shorter time than they ever expected, will achieve nothing more than being a brief topic in passing gossip and feeding crows and grass in some lost field. So, aspirant, are you serious enough about your enduring name to hire me to praise it properly, or will you be nothing more than the faceless vanquished in a verse sung for one whose coin purse was more open?"

- Ascribed to the First String of the Twelveswood Troubadours

Knights, warriors, and thrilling contenders of all sorts will present themselves at the Flame Festival, all hoping to take home a prize, bragging rights, glory. But what of those of you whose battlefield is the stage? What of you whose words, music, voices can turn a chump with a blunt lance into a Deity of War, fit for legends? What of those who can move a crowd with mere words? What honors are there for you, you say, you whose skills change sodden grunts into immortal heroes?

Come, then, and do what you do best! Declare your champion, and make us believe!

Rules:
Each contestant of the Herald's Challenge will chose his or her champion - a contestant in The Joust, the Pie Eating Contest, or one of the Side Events. Heralds will have 3-5 minutes to perform a song, speech, brag, testament, or combination thereof, praising their chosen champion's prowess in their chosen contest. A small panel of judges will officiate, and winners will be chosen by audience vote. Once all performances are complete, votes will be submitted to the judges, who will count them and declare the winner. Note that Red Wings members, and their alts, may not enter, although contestants in other events are allowed to be their own heralds for this event, if they choose.

The Joust
Brave Cavaliers, step forth with your trusted steads. We seek 16 contestants to gather on the field to fanfare, testing their metal against others of their type. On loyal mounts they will charge and seek to dismount their fellows in honorable non-lethal combat. The grand prize winner of this challenge shall take home a prize of 1,000,000 gil! Sharpen your blades, and ready your steads!
Rules
There will be 13 matches in total, some matches to occur during the same time as other matches for the sake of time. There will be used "/random" to decide winners at each pass. The judge will call for the /random, both fighters will roll. Once the numbers are seen both players will be encouraged to write a short reaction and for fun run past each other. The Winner of each roll will write their action first, the loser of the roll will write the reaction, for the entertainment of the crowd. Each jouster will have 3 HP. No Godmoding (ie: "This is my mount Midgardsomer!" You can say dragon if you must but no named "special" mounts). Magic in the form of missile type spells (Fire 1) allowed. Firearms and bows (rubber bullets and blunted arrows) allowed. All other blunted or dulled weapons allowed. Red Wings members may not enter this contest.

Side Events

The Sunny Seaside Bar
The SSB event will be having their normal event with us at the Festival. So come out for food and drink in their special location in the Silver Bazaar.
I always secretly hoped Steel's story would lead her to the service of the Red Wings, but an event like this is the next best thing to being alongside the company.

I hope its somewhere in the Wed or Thurs spot, because I work nights...but whenever it is, I desperately hope to attend.

Thread subscribed. Eyes on. Squee commencing.
You know Reiner will back anything you do. I'll hit you up today, or a private message Erik. Hopefully the time slot allows but I'll be right there with you.

Aw, that is kind of you to say. For an rper like you to say it means alot. A bit off topic to any who read thins, don't be a stranger. Even if you don't want to be a member of the fc and just want to play with us, we are active 20 hours of the day due to timezone spread. The door is always open to new members, or just cool people. We don't bite. Laugh

That's actually why I was trying to reach out to you but rl got in the way. Sort of an under-theme for this event is its to give the poor and downtrodden a fun day, ie refugees.... and other poor people too of course. The lore sort of leads me to see the Flames as sort of more on the people's side, as enlistment is an easy way from poverty, it would stand to reason many Flames were or are poor. So the IF would be more sympothetic and there for more open to doing something like this.

Was wondering about you and a refugee angle. Maybe even a little exhibition Rune/Grindestone match. Maybe a match or two from Warren's thing and yours? Like a 5HP single match ChampvsChamp thing or someting. IDK just shooting off ideas... get a booth!

I can totally get behind this. If Warren doesn't see this thread I'll bring it up with him but you've got me. And I think your right, as well as the IF's Pro Ala mhigan sympathies and such I'm totally in to get on this to aid you. Both IC and OOC if you need anything. I'll be on tonight ans such and we can bounce back and forth. I actually have a cubic crap load of things to talk with you about other than this anyway

Honestly i need anything people wanna do, its like a ren-fair, stuff going on all 6 hours. I'm open to fcs recruiting, ic selling cakes, dancing girls/boys.... i just want activity/chaos/madness. If you make a crowd like that, were there are many things going on here and there, it makes it easier for the shy among us to form a party, go into party chat, and have fun at the event without feeling focused on or overwelmed.... melting into the crowd as it were.
Hmm, decisions decisions on which of three characters to send to this..
Well... looks like I'm taking a day off in Oct. if this is during the afternoon. Seeing as Ul'dah is Asmodean's birthplace, this would be perfect for him. Helping the poor and less fortunate is something he'll always agree with.

Come one come all for fun.
clio will be there for the duration of the event, aside from that; i'll be hosting a smaller scaled version of the monthly shots contest with a few minor changes;

no entry fee
i'll be advertising the contest via shout/yell (most likely yell) and those wishing to sign up will simply come find me at the area to add their name to the list. i may shorten the list depending on how many want to participate. (once scheduling for events gets hammered out more; i'll pick a start time ;p)

prize list

yeeep, i'll be handing out extra prizes this time, we'll be doing a first, second and third place prize along with a prize for whoever loses their stomach in the first round xD

roll rules are to stay the same!

for those not aware; people are usually split into small groups of 3-5 depending on how big the overall group of contestants are. we then go from group to group; winner of said group is a finalist, then all finalists compete for the prize.

roll rules have you emote taking a drink, roll then emote reaction to it (not exactly in that order, it's pretty loose; long as you roll an take a swig it's good ;3 ) out of the group you're rolling with: lowest number takes a hit. each person has three hp, this keeps going each round until only one from that group has hp left. ties are met with re-rolls and those that make it to the final round; have their hp reset.
