I'm coming here because today, while RPing in Camp Dragonhead, I had a bad experience with someone complaining to me OOCly in a very wordy, condescending manner that my Ishgardian nobleman gave their character a look of annoyance that they were in the same building as him.

"[In a public place like Dragonhead too. I'm sorry, it's very much clashing against the established lore. You own this building and such ? The rule isn't being broken, you're just overstepping the boundaries and performing an action without knowing the background of whom you're interacting with. Please, check again.]"

Now, I pretty much lost it at this point. I was confused, immensely! I didn't say a word about what they could, or shouldn't do. My character simply glanced at someone else's with annoyance.

Did I do something wrong? Is there a Balmung code of "don't look at people"?

I'm actually upset by this because I've never, in 5 years of MMO RP, had this happen over a simple glance RPed by two lines of text.

e: there were several more whispers after, that insulted my intelligence and my lore-knowledge as well as said that I should pay attention to 'real RPers'.
Well, I have names turned off for ~immersion~, so I'm always looking around, clicking people. Rubbernecking, perhaps.

I haven't had this particular experience, but it sounds akin to godmodding, being told what your character is doing by someone else (though other users here may have a better definition). Tough to say with no direct connection to these specific events. Even if you emoted in some way, ignoring the action IC and immediately going into OOC damage control seems excessive.

I'd politely ask them to refrain from doing so, or from stating anything about your character's actions that you haven't telegraphed explicitly. If they're a pain, give 'em the old BL.
I was just absolutely in shock that 2 lines of my character being annoyed someone else was at the meeting he had planned could result in 1000+ characters of hate whispers.
Sounds like your regular run-of-the-mill a-hole. Ignore and do your thang.

PS, Giving the stink eye is pretty much all Ishgardian noblemen DO.
There is no code, if there is I don't know about it.. or any other code for that matter.

Sounds like someone who is very lore strict projecting that onto others, in this case you. I expect with that level of tolerance they will be frustrated a lot.

I know any negative dig can be upsetting, even out and out trolls. But I would brush it off, and there is always blacklisting.

RP the way you want to RP.

THIS! I thought I was abiding in lore by doing such a thing because lol, my character is a noble!
That's just bizarre.
Yeah, I mean, I don't normally bring things up or post anything like this

but what the heck? this was just insane and I'm so lost and confused.

e: also hi v'aleera
Did you tell em to grow a pair it's rp?

Thats what I'd have done.
"Excuse me, but I know a great deal more about Ishgardian Lore than you, so I would highly appreciate you take your condescending, superior attitude and shove it up your ass. ))"

was my final reply before blacklisting them.

I was a bit mad.
Oh yeah. I was there with Anthony when that happened. Not that it mattered because they were whispers, so... I don't really know what to say.
I'd have just lol'd and moved on if I was you.  People get upset over the dumbest stuff, and that's something you got to figure out yourself.

This would be one of those things in my opinion.
I'm waiting for the other party to see the thread and be like "OH NO HE DI'INT" and come reply to it.

Popcorn on standby.

Pass the buttah?
That person's attitude is his own and by no means reflects the general attitude of the RPC. Blacklist and proceed with whatever approach to RP you'd like to do.
