Above spoiler is my pre-introduction, before I was on Balmung. I've recently transferred successfully, and from what I've seen, things look fun! I've yet to do any actual RP yet, however. As for some basic stuff on me:

MMORPG Background: Oh, where to start? I've started with Runescape, then EQ, EQ2, WoW (most of my MMO life) and then a few smaller MMO's in between including GW2, TSW and SWTOR. If there's an MMO around, chances are I've tried it at least once. Games are my hobby alongside art--however that is more of a career now. I also have RPed in most of them.

RP Experience: I've lost count of how many years I've RPed. But my most earliest time I could say I've RPed, was in EQ with a friend I knew for a while. I'm 23 now, and I started EQ when I was around 8 years of age (I know, pretty young)! If I had to say definite amount of years, I'd be comfortable saying around 10-15+ years I have RPed.

Of course my experience back then wasn't as refined as it is now. But, I'm always learning on new ways to RP. RP to me, is like writing a story without a definite end. To give life to what is lifeless--make the world you are in feel more realistic and imaginable.

Character Ideas/Info: I haven't given TOO much thought about my character thus far. I sort of have a general idea for an outcasty/mercenary/rogue-type character. He's sort of light-hearted, cocky, curious, and somewhat of a 'kid' in the sense that most things are a game to him. Though he is somewhat wary of people, he does try to open up and say hello sometimes. He's a Keeper of the Moon Miq'ote at the current time, however I may end up using the appearance change system to remake him to a Seeker if they allow us with the paid service. But if this personality fits as a Keeper, then he may stay a Keeper. If anyone has ideas or would like to RP to help develop this character, I'd love to hear or come in contact with you!

How did you learn about the coalition?: I always look to see if an MMO has an established RP community prior to actually buying or playing the game. If there is no way for RP to flourish at all, most likely I wouldn't play the game. I do like the game generally, but not enough to play it without RP. I just love the extra layer of icing RP gives to the game.

What kind of a role-player are you aiming to be? Light, Medium, or Heavy?: Mostly Heavy RP. Sometimes if I have an off day, it can fluctuate, but I like long story-driven plots, relationships between characters, and allowing things to start from the ground up.

Anything from real life you're comfortable with sharing?: Currently I am enrolled in online-college classes at the Academy of Art University, and majoring in Illustration. I'll be graduating around May in 2017 with an Associates Degree. I'm hoping to do some menu-artwork for some smaller businesses, or anything that I can lend my craft to once I'm out. That includes comissions for characters, and many other things.

I have 2 geckos: a leopard gecko named Hiro, and a gargoyle gecko named Iza. I am on the East Coast. I also attend Tekkoshocon most of the time in the Spring, for those who know of it. I think I'm a pretty open, fun person. :3 So, please feel free to poke me or say hello!

I just recently got into FF14, and I have played some of the previous console games. However, I have a bit of a newbie question. One that might not be FF14 related...

I notice that the settings and characters in each FF have bedn different. Are they different worlds than Eorzea? Are they the same worlds, but different continents? I guess what Im trying to figure out, is the basic connections to the games' continuity and, can the previous games be traced within a timeline of FF14? Such as FF7-- what time was the game set in the worlds timline, if FF7 was connected to FF14?

Sorry if these are silly questions. Im just looking for basic answers to make sense of things.

Hi!

There is no specified chronology between Final Fantasy games; they are, except in the instances of direct sequels, spinoffs, and the like, their own self-contained worlds and stories, usually with no influence on the others.

Now, I say usually, because recently Square Enix has been playing around with connecting the games in a "multiverse" fashion; think the multiple-dimensions setups of DC and Marvel. Every once in a while, bits and pieces of one Final Fantasy game might end up in another Final Fantasy game; Lightning has paid two trips to Eorzea, for instance, and FFXI has bled into FFXIV a few times.

Whether or not this is canon or just for fun on Squeenix's part depends on who you ask, since these were special two-times-or-so events, but time and dimension travel is a recurring facet of the Final Fantasy series.
Thanks for the confirmation Oli!

This makes a lot of sense. Do these worlds such as Clouds, Lightnings original world, etc) have names (like Eorzea), or is it pretty vague? Would these worlds generally have a name in the 'universe'? Sort of like shards or something?

Many have names (IE FFXIII's world is named Gran Pulse, FFXII and many of the Tactics games happen in Ivalice) The easiest way to think of it is the multiverse theory. Especially with games like Dissidia it just seems to make the most sense. Separate worlds connected by common themes.
Welcome!

It's sort of a multi-verse, like some have said already. Some games share world names, but not always the "world" itself. Like FFVII and FFIX both take place on Gaia, however, the two Gaia are different. FF Tactics and FFXII both take place in Ivalice, though there was some talk if I remember correctly that they were same world, just 1,000 years apart. FFX took place in Spira. FFXI was on Vana'diel. FFXIII is Gran Pulse (iirc). FFXIV's world is named Hydaelyn.

Dimension hopping between them all seems possible given the Lightning events where FFXIII's main character came to Eorzea. Shantotto from FFXI's Vana'diel also crossed into Hydaelyn briefly by some fluke of magic. Also, Atomos in the XIV and XI universe is a dimension hopping/folding void creature who ventures into worlds shortly before some calamitous event and consumes their lifeforce/aether/mako/lifestream whatever.

In short, the lore of FFXIV's world, Hydaelyn, is its own and not tied to any of the previous games by anything other than coincidence and familiarity. Several elements from the series are present in most all of the games but in most cases the lore behind each world is unique to the individual game.

Hope this helps! ^^

This helped clarify a lot of things! Thank you Sounsyy~ I think I'm slowly getting the hang of stuff!

I wonder if the Elemental Gods (Ifrit, Idin, Bahamut, etc.) transcend all the multiverses as the same beings? (At least I think they are elemental gods? Tongue) Im such a newbie. X.x
The Primals such as Ifrit and co are definitely not the same across the board of FF games.

In FFXIV especially, in 2.55 and 3.0, we learn more about what what we've seen as Primals.
Thanks everyone for your posts on the questions! Learning more every day! Big Grin

I've also updated the OP with some basic info on me! ^^
