Frontier has come and gone. The MOVIE retelling have come and gone, disappointing as it was. And well... this CGI is not... looking as good. Then again, I haven't watched the Macross Frontier TV CG in like 5 years.

Flying Walküre - The Tactical Sound unit group battling the Var Syndrome. Seems like a Macross 7 call back.

Revebrating Wind - Aerial Knights Valkyrie fighter team of the Kingdom of Wind.

Minori Suzuki, the 18-year-old winner of the newest Macross singer auditions from Aichi Prefecture, will play Freyja Wion, an aspiring idol who is full of spirit and who is always smiling. Five girls form the "Tactical Sound Unit" Walküre, the first major songstress group in the Macross anime franchise. (Macross 7 had the Jamming Birds group, and The Macross Digital Mission VF-X game had the group Milky Dolls.) The Walküre group battles the Var Syndrome that is consuming the galaxy, and there is also the mysterious Aerial Knights Valkyrie fighter team of the Kingdom of Wind.

Thoughts? Opinions? Cautious?

I'm a little scared that Yoko Kanno is not involved D;
I'll probably watch [and enjoy] it.

The art style has shifted from Macross Frontier, but if you look at each Macross anime, that's basically happened.

From what I remember of Macross Frontier (been a while since I watched the TV series), the CGI looks about the same. But we all know Macross is for the singing, not the giant battles. :p

Until we get a sample of what the characters sound like and maybe a pilot episode, it's a little early to judge. It does stand to note that Yoko Kanno has not worked on every Macross title, although (ALERT! PERSONAL OPINION!) she's worked on what I feel are the two best ones.
Kinda glad they moved away from the faux Aquarion look of Frontier. The huge cast of qewt bois and gurls means a massive graph of intersecting love triangles. Kawamoriiii.... @_@ my heart won't be able to take it!

Mecha look nice though. I was not completely satisfied with Frontier or the movie but Yoko Kano never hurts a show. That could sink Delta, but we'll see.

I've never been a big Macross person, but it looked okay except for the 3D CGI.

I wouldn't put it on a Must-See list or anything.

This isn't particularly bad as far as things go, though; if anything, since the anime industry is in the bit of a slump at the moment, expect it to get worse before it gets better.

If it gets better.
I think the slump is kinda hard to determine, there have been a lot of good shows recently, but they don't appeal to nostalgics. When I was young, all fansubbing was done on laserdisk and official sub releases were limited or on public broadcasting. I think there is plenty of crap from then too; we just didn't get to see it.

But I do love that this Macross is literally Triangle. Kawamori, crazy rascal, you so "subtle!!!"

It's not too hard to determine, really. A lot of people are feeling it, and there have been some changes in the industry, too. Manglobe went Bankrupt at the start of October, for instance. Hayo Miyazaki infamously stated that current studios are lacking in imagination (though to be fair, this isn't exactly a new viewpoint for him, even if he isn't wrong), the creator of Evangelion isn't too thrilled either, neither is one of the writers of Cowboy Bebop, "Anime Is Dying" arguments and articles are popping up with a lot of frequency (you can just google that bit if you haven't seen these), animation in both the US and Japan is being outsourced extremely quickly to South Korea and India, and streaming services may start becoming / replacing publishers, similar to Netflix and Hulu.

Lots of changes, none of it particularly beneficial as far as bringing in revenue goes. Add to that the fact that it seems like more and more shows are adopting the American model and pushing Merch as hard as they can, and it seems like things are getting more than a little wobbly.

Interestingly, it's also worth noting in the article regarding animation outsourcing that the population of Japan (a.k.a. Anime's Target Audience) is shrinking, which means less viewers in the first place. I'm not sure how much of a factor that is, but it's nonetheless extremely interesting to note.
Fantasy style Macross?

... I am in for this series.

It's been a while they tried something completely original
*pets the chocobo chick* ...This intrigues me.
I love Robotech (American Edit) but Macross is amazing. I haven't seen a really well done and decent Macross since Macross Plus (my opinion). I really don't like that the dogfights and planes are mostly computer generated. Sticks out like a sore thumb and reminds me of Last Exile.

On a positive note, the VF-31 reminds me of the YF-19, which is  one of my favorites next to the VF-1J and VF-1S. (For Robotech, I like Jack Archer's YF-1R). I'll watch it.
TAKE MY MONEY!

I mean...-ahem-...

ALL OF MY YES!!!

I can't wait ._. I will even watch it subbed
