Following on from my previous post here I will be creating an Academy themed FC that will hopefully function as a school. I have also created an accompanying LS for "part-time" staff and students.

Academia Eorzea

'The Royal Academy of Eorzea' is proud to bring you the finest education from across Hydaelyn. With a diverse team of staff, an even more diverse curriculum, and hopeully willing students we aim to share the knowlede of the world with all who enter our doors.

The Concept

I would like to create an FC where everyone feels welcome first of all. I don't believe in exclusivity and so characters of all races and backgrounds will be wecome as both teachers and students.

Now with that out of the way, I want to cover a wide variety of subject both practical and theory based. Subjects such as history, literature etc. will naturally be classroom based with a few field trips, and classes such as Conjury, Thaumaturgy etc. will be far more practical based.

I am hoping to have some form of FC house that we can use as a school, though that would depend on the avaiability of plots and finances.

With the backing of staff members, I would also like to invite guest speakers for one-off lectures from time to time.

Though it isn't ironed out yet, I would like to have some sense of progression within the guild. Particularly from the students. Whether this will be IC awards ceremonies, or OOC rankins is up for discussion.

Staff Structure
Ranks will be scholastic in theme, and are not set in stone as of yet.
FC Leader - Headmistress
Senior Officers - Deputy Headmaster/Headmistress
Officers- Heads of Department
Senior Members - Teaching Staff/Pastoral Staff
Members - Students, Assistant teachers

All members of the guild (with the exception of students) will be allowed to take on the role of teacher.

The Curriculum

Now the fun part! I would ideally like the syllabus to be diverse enough to attract a wide variety of students, but not so diverse that there are hundreds of staff members. Each department will have someone in charge, who will oversee it.

Magical
Conjury, Thaumaturgy, Arcanima, Astrology, Magical Theory

Martial
Melee Weapons Training (swords, axes, lances), Archery, Pugilism, Ninjutsu, Military Strategy and Manoeuvre

Trade
Smithing, Carpentry, Goldsmithing, Leatherworking, Weaving, Alchemy

Academic
History, Religion, Literature, Mathematics, Politics, Science

Non-academic
Healing, Dance, Music

Students are encouraged to take a variety of classes, one-to-one tutoring may also be available.

About Me
You're probably wondering by this point what my background in FC leadership is. In WoW I ran a sucessful small collegiate guild. We had some popular events, namely our open lectures, and some not so popular ones (turns out people hate school dances in-game too). I learned a lot from my experience and I'd like to bring that to FFXIV.

Furthermore, IRL both my father and Grandfather are teachers. My father teaches Secondary English and History and my Grandfather was a university lecturer. I have grown up learning from them, and hope to pursue it as a career. As of now though, I am a riding instructor as a small horse riding school. So as you can see I have firsthand experience teaching.
I am also creating a LS so that people can communicate in-game
Update!

LS is up!
Hmm, this seems fun. Problem is, the class guilds are all pretty accessible. While it can be convenient to study by private instruction, the guilds are the best places to learn. The guild leaders might take a very dim view of someone stepping in on their territory and creating an alternate source for instruction. Those who have dedicated themselves to the guilds may also harbor some resentment.

"She's not a -real- Pugilist. She wasn't a student of the guild." This is true. Pugilism was invented by the founder of the guild, and thus should be taught and learned at the guild for authenticity. Outside of the guild its just kickboxing.

Other exclusives are Ninjutsu, which is meant to be very secret, and Conjury, which has roots in White Magic and thus needs oversight and permission from the Padjal. There's a lot of particulars each class has.

Now if you want to focus on theory, history, and literature, you wont have any problems. Modern Eorzea could do with a place to raise the next best and brightest scholars.

The guild leaders may view it as such, alternatively they may see it as an expansion of their craft. They may like the fact that their students are carrying on their work elsewhere. The guild masters we see are not the only masters of the arts in the game, and there are plenty of characters who RP as mastrs of each class. It is just something that we will never know unfortunately.

Regarding the issues of Ninjutsu and Conjury, there is no reason that the teachers of those arts could not grant permission for it to be taught elsewhere, especially if it is a rare art such as the aforementioned ones. Again though, this is something that we don't know about and will likely never know.
With the influx of so many Doman refugees I don't see why they wouldn't want to share their art with others.   Kind of like a cultural exchange.
Guest Speakers eh.
Well if you ever want to hold a "Defense Against The Dark Arts* Gwen is available to guess speak or teach! (actually I think it would be a fun nod to Harry Potter to have the teachers constantly change for that if you decided to do it!)
"Defense Against The Dark Arts"

That sounds like a fun idea. Maybe I could ask the staff to rotate every once in a while. Gwen is most welcome to be a guest speaker once everything is up and running Smile
