Hi all,

I haven't been a very active roleplayer, if at all really, obsessing over the need to progress in game and having limited with family. However, I think I've finally weaned myself away from PvE and would really like to devote more time to roleplay. Normally, I only have several hours in the evening to play with a normal day job, in addition to being interrupted occasionally due to kids waking up from time to time. But I have a few weeks all to myself without the family so I thought now would be the best opportunity to try something.

That being said, I was incredibly lucky to find someone who passed on a large house to me in Lavender Beds (though not my ideal location, but I guess I can't complain too much given the situation). I had grand hopes early on in game when housing first came out to run a bar/tavern/inn/brothel. However, it seems like we have an abundance of those already established in the community. So I'm wondering if it's really worthwhile to try something like this still or if anyone else has any ideas what would be useful/beneficial to the RP community.

My original intention was to facilitate more villain(ess)/evil roleplay, or at least have a hub for it so people can gather. I remember a post a long time back about a discussion on being openly evil. It doesn't really make sense to go into the Quicksand and brag that you just assassinated an Ul'dahn noble or that you smuggled in a crate of contraband into the city. Often times when I do roleplay, I'll sit next to another shady character beating around the bush, trading pleasantries with euphemisms intimating that we do bad things. You can't just be, "I make a living off selling Limsa's surplus to bands of thieves, you need some?" But in a more private business/settings outside of the city, it'd create an interesting dynamic and make more sense where people could gather and openly solicit/boast about these kinds of scenarios. It could be a form of advertisement, build real infamy outside of NPC reputation, and without the fear of having good align characters coming down on you (at least not immediately). Good characters could even drop by or to sneak in to eavesdrop for leads or some such. Possibly get roughed up and thrown out for snooping.

So that's a brief(?) explanation of the idea I had in mind. Would anyone really be interested in something like this? I'd love to entertain other housing ideas for having more outlets for evil RP, but outside the type of establishments I've already listed, I'm not sure what else would work.

Thanks in advance for reading all my text and bearing with my horrible organization of thought!
What a delightful coincidence! I've just left my FC last night, and was talking to a few friends about wanting to get back into the villain game. I'd love to talk to you about this, Phayte!
So kinda like a tavern for villains or at least morally grey characters so that they can socialize without fear of law enforcement? (If I've read your post correctly). Sounds interesting!

In my own social settings, most people/places seem to be either good-aligned or neutral at best, but still under watch of the law. A lawless place could be very fun if it catches along and people make use of it! (Not to mention you could possibly do some small events where maybe law enforcement RPers try to get in, and either get caught or something, spawning more connections for you and for others!)

Hey Setoh! Yea, feel free to catch me any time and we can chat about this! We've never had a real chance to RP and who knows, this might be an awesome opportunity. Did you actually leave the villain game?

Right, you're always being watched by the law if you're in the city so this I hope would be something new. Lavender Beds/Black Shroud is sort of a really awkward place from a logical standpoint, though maybe justifiable being so remote that law enforcement don't venture there very often if all. The ideas you mentioned were some of the same idea I had when coming up with this concept. In terms of spawning connections, I was thinking an LS would be nice to try and connect people who want to gather and make myself available just to be the hostess for times when others aren't around, possibly to even connect like minded people. (i.e. "Hey Phayte, you know anyone that can supply me drugs?" - "Well there is this guy, he usually comes in around X time pushing stuff for cheap.")

But like you said, IF this caches on. I just don't know how big of a villainy community we have here, but here's hoping!
Hi Phayte! You know Kiht'a is verrrry far from the evil spectrum, but I was very pleased to see in your tag that your character has evil 'motives'. Im not quite sure how I could help with those, but, if you happen to want to weave Kiht into some things (perhaps, weasel him into things that could potentially harm others without him knowing or something; often times he can be fairly gullible, and Phayte sort've becoming his 'friend' would make him want to help her to make her 'happy' as long as its not obvious what her goal is. X3)

As far as a house, I think its a wonderful idea, but good luck getting one in the market these days. X.x

I think she's already got the house, just trying to figure out what to do with it.

On a side note, one could just say that the OOC location in Lavender Beds is just how to access it, leaving the housing instance to be located anywhere else! The same way people may have designed "Ishgardian rooms" before having Ishgardian housing.

Oh! Durp. I just woke up, so I may have misread things rofl!

I agree with the location thing. That is what was done with WoW Garrisons for guilds in my experience ohce Blizzard locked them to one zone. X.x

I think it would be accurate to say that Phayte is two-faced. The problem has always been that the public outlets only allow for one face to be sociably acceptable for her situation. I have to guess that there are others who face the same dilemma as me. You wouldn't know she's a bad girl given the interaction we had the other night, so yes, it is very likely she could end up using you. It's my vehicle of choice to be evil but not shunned by a majority of people. Because if Phayte was just openly mean to you, you probably would walk away and not want to talk with her ever again. I'm not quite as smooth as some other criminals who remain notorious but well sought out still. A place like this would at least allow her real colors to come out from time to time.

And as Franz mentioned, I actually have acquired the house already and trying to explore different ways to use it.

Hehe, usually the best villains are the ones you cannot tell are right in front if you. I have faced the same dilemma in WoW where, it was difficult to be openly evil in cities, where most congregated. I used the excusdle for finding people to use, as well. Behind closed doors, my orc rogue is so much more villanous. XD

But, yes. That is the best way to get Kiht to do anything remotely 'evil'. Im glad to hear you have the house! :3 I will try to spread the word around about your thread if I happen to see any villanous-tagged RPers. I actually may know an FC in particular that may be good to get in touch with. I dont remember their name, but Ill let you know asap. :3
I'd love another place for the morally grey and the darker lot to hang out at!
The house is a mansion, right? With all the fancy new doors we've gotten for housing, here's a couple thoughts I've had on what you could do with the house. (It's a slow day at work currently).

Top Floor: Maybe something akin to private rooms? Good places for the mob bosses and other "business associates" to do what they do. Easy interrogations. Best part? Need to get rid of someone, toss 'em off the floor.

Ground Level: Main meeting area. Probably some tables, I'd imagine a bar area because what morally corrupt person doesn't like a good drink or five? Especially ones that aren't laced with poison for their enemies. (Or perhaps they are?)

Basement: Maybe a gaol of sorts? Lock up hostages, victims, prey, monsters (if someone's into that / poaching), etc. Small, separate rooms.

Yes, the house is a mansion.

I haven't really even begun to decorate since I still need to make the decision to continue forth with this idea, but wow! I love all the ideas you had for a layout and may have to pilfer them all!!! Which got me thinking of taking a different spin on the idea. Maybe a bar on the outside as a front (main floor as you said), but maybe the main function is to provide a haven of villainy services.

VIP lounge/private rooms for more of the notorious regulars who come by that bring in business. I thought the basement idea would be a stretch, but hey, if it brings in money to fund the establishment, no questions asked Smile. It's like a safety deposit box, "Hey, I just provide the space, I don't see or ask questions what they put in there. That's not my responsibility."

Man, would law enforcement have a field day if they got in...

Certainly the more the merrier, I'll of course make a post if something happens! I definitely appreciate expressing your interest!
Ooo you could also have a 'fence' there too! Maybe one of the housing npc merchants.
I've been talking with a few people about crime RP possibilities (I mostly left the public crime RP scene in order to try and help a friend with her FC).

I like the idea of the house being something that would bring people in from other FCs. It's a tough prospect, because there are a lot of people who run public houses like this, so there's automatically a lot of competition. The trick is to present something that makes your public house stand out.

Personally, I think the way to do that is to think in terms of RP hooks. The standard thing that gets done with a public house is the owners decorate it, open the doors, maybe throw some events, and wait for people to come in - in other words, to think in terms of the place. That gets some attention in the beginning (New! Shiny!), and around the events (because who doesn't love events?), but it doesn't really provide a reason for people to come to the house on a regular basis. Likewise, it's difficult to have an active service house (tavern, brothel, what have you), because it's hard to find people who are willing to play the service folks on a regular basis.

If you think in terms of RP hooks, you think in terms of what your place can provide that would draw people in on a regular basis. Watch The Freshman and look at the Italian Social Club. In a sense, it's a public house - a place. But in the context of the movie, it provides access to the Don. That's the hook.

Let's talk about specifics offline!
