Hydaelyn Role-Players

I've been on Balmung for a little over a month on my alternate characterÂ Leonnaux Altoix (RPC page linked there), I figure it's about time I start looking for some connections for him since I'm pretty much done grasping at his character and trying to get a feel for him.

So, to save any readers of this thread the trouble of reading through my whole RPC page, to sum up Leon in a paragraph: he's a bit self-absorbed and obsessive in his studies. After coming to the conclusion that he had been afflicted with some mysterious 'aether sickness' (read: Echo), he took up arcanima and alchemy in thus-far vain attempts to study it more closely and left his family in the Shroud because they were too worried about his well-being (and went about it in all the wrong ways), so now he's plunked himself down in Ul'dah in an attempt to find some peace and quiet while he tries to get to the bottom of his predicament.

(Also he's a Duskwight that I purposefully designed to at least somewhat-pass as Wildwood. "Attempts" to fool people IC with it has been an astounding successÂ and is definitely something I'd love to play with.)

Connections I'm looking for are pretty vague and general. Mostly, I want to meet people who wanna take playing with my character for a spin. I don't have any particular plotlines in mind, but I'd love to see where things take me in regards to Leon as a character. However, because of how... Self-absorbed and obsessive Leon is, it's safe to say that I'm only looking for platonic connections for now. Following are just some ideas in regards to connections that would be nice to have, but aren't necessarily required for anything I wanna do in particular, since I'm so new to this character and the server that I only have the vaguest idea where I wanna go with him overarching plot-wise.

Roommates?Â In my head, Leon doesn't have any sort of really permanent employment since he kind of just absorbs information like a sponge and therefore taught himself a lot of what he knows, but obviously since he's living in Ul'dah he probably would be living on the street if he couldn't find someone who was willing to put up with him. I mean, he's capable and willing of doing menial jobs if it'll earn him some money... But he considers it a better deal if he can dedicate as much of his time as possible to studying rather than like, cleaning the streets or something.
Study partners? As potentially-annoyingly self-absorbed as Leon is, he's also rather excitable when it comes to studying and, as single-minded as he is, he occasionally decides to toy with things outside of his interests. He enjoys hearing others' theories and findings -- especially if they have to do with aether in any capacity -- and, well... If you got him going about his own findings and studies that the possibility of getting him to shut up is slim.
Unwitting (or witting, that's cool too) assistant? Probably requires some pre-establishing, but honestly Leon considers anyone who hangs around him often enough to be more of an assistant than a friend. It's a bad habit.

And those are just some ideas outside of the usual friends/allies/rivals/enemies paradigm, all of which are ties I'd definitely be willing to roll with since you know the vanilla relationships are amazing in general anyways.

I'm also looking for an FC!Â I'm a member of one at the moment, but I want to kind of shop around to see if there's any other particular one that fits my character better since I joined my current one primarily because it has a few of my friends in it and it's easier to get my feet wet into things when I'm with friends, but I'm definitely interested in branching out some more so I was planning on FC hopping a bit before settling one one to stick with hopefully-permanently. Also, linkshells.

The FC/LS has to be friendly OOC! This isn't really an issue but I like to be able to approach and strike up conversations OOC even when doing IC stuff currently. I'd like an FC with a base community that's at the very least LGBT-friendly and doesn't fling slurs around. Mostly this is just here because I've had some Experiences with FCs on my primary server, and I'd rather not repeat them because I wanna feel comfortable when I RP with people.
The FC/LS has to be RP-oriented! I like OOC linkshells so long as they give me a chance to make/plan some RP stuff, but some IC linkshells are greatly appreciated. Insofar as FCs go this is kind of a given I think, and not everything has to be tooootally IC with the FC chat and all, but I'd like RP to be the primary focus of it since I don't plan on doing any raiding with Leon on Balmung. Raiding is kinda a Perc-only thing. I'm just too lazy to gear Leon up when I hit 60; ain't no one got time for TWO lore grinds...
I'd prefer an environment that Leon fit into IC.
And of course since my intention is to shop around for FCs and then decide which one I wanna stick with, I'd really appreciate FCs that are okay with me FC hopping and then potentially coming back. Being chill about that is a great bonus.

His mother instilled in him a love of study, and his voracious curiosity has gotten him into all shades of trouble before. He's a bit older than your character, and looks a lot older, but that's neither here nor there.

The thing I'm worried about is that he also has the Echo and he's a little more educated on what it is and what it does - I don't want to move your character development/storyline along any faster than you are comfortable with. So I don't want to bring it up ICly unless you want me to. At the same time, if someone who has had contact with the Path of the Twelve/Scions of the Seventh Dawn and has some knowledge to share about the Echo is something you'd be interested in, then that's something we could do as well.

Hi there, I went through the "trouble" of reading Leon's wiki anyway and he seems like a pretty cool dude! I think he would possibly be a great fit for the LS/FC I run, Order of Ouroboros. We're a secret mage society focused on helping characters learn the arcane arts and help protect Eorzea from strange magic happenings.Â

I have an arcanist/scholar cat (Cam'nahl Zarasten) who's a huge fan of magical theory in pretty much all its forms. Arcanima is his main study, though he's looked into conjury and thaumaturgey and found them not really to his taste. He's recently started investigating the art of summoning. But overall, his passion is in healing of the SCH variety.

He doesn't spend a lot of time in Ul'dah, but if your kid ever drops by the Arcanist Guild in Limsa, there's a good chance of finding a smol blue catte surrounded by dusty old books. If you'd like, of course Big Grin

I have a very studious Duskwight too, and I'm sure he'd love to meet Leonnaux! Michaux'sÂ RP profile is on my tumblr.Â I also have an Ishgardian Duskwight, Bastien Renardier (or just Bast) who is an information broker with a very particular interest in the echo. Maybe he could meet Leonnaux somehow and start to suspect the truth about his gift? That could make for an interesting long-term plot, perhaps.

One of the main goals of the Mythril Wings is to pursue knowledge in all its forms. The FC is home to a lot of mages, scholars, and engineers, so Leonnaux might fit right in.Â

Hello everyone! I'm glad I've gotten so much interest so quickly and to everyone who replied to this thread and/or PMed me with interest in RPing with or having Leon in their FC, thanks! I don't have a lot of internet time at the moment since it's pretty late and I'm staying away from home currently, but I'm going to start hopping between FCs after I get home this coming Sunday and I'll do my absolute best to follow up on all these interesting characters and potential plotlines!

Your character sounds really interesting! I skim-read his profile on your tumblr and between that and the information you've given me here I think it'd be really interesting to have Leon and Confiance interact sometime! I don't regard the Echo as much of an issue, but I do think I'd like to get some development of leon's studies in before he figures out what it is -- though to be fair just figuring out what it is probably wouldn't quell his thirst for knowledge since then it'd go into questions of how can I use it? Can I force it to give me visions on demand? How accurate are these visions? What else can it do besides give me annoying visiions and bad headaches? and etc. It would be pretty interesting in general to get Leon on speaking terms with (... If Confiance could stand him; Leon's very... Odd sometimes) someone who could tell him about the Echo, but definitely wanna take it slow in that aspect of his story mostly because I enjoy making him hurt.

But yeah I'd love to work something out! I'll contact you via PM over here if that's okay; it works better for me to do that since it lets me talk more and there's more space to wave my hands around like an idiot while I'm thinking and typing simultaneously. ^^'

I read up on your FC and it sounds really, really cool! While Leon's not much of a fighter type and is more just studious because of his 'aether sickness' and arcanima is a means to an end for him more than anythign else, I could totally see him coming to fit in among this FC, and the LS is a really nice thing to have too. I'll send in an application (and reply to your PM; thanks for all the info!) when I'm ready to start FC hopping, you guys will probably be the first ones I check out! (I've actually gotta keep a list now, wow! O<O And I haven't even put myself out there in-game yet 'cause my internet at the moment is so bad I can't play the game right...!)

Of course I'd like! I figure as time goes on, leon will start branching out and travelling more; I'm just trying to keep it a bit simpler for now until I find more connections and the best-fitting RP FC; Â I'm sure Leon would love to visit Limsa Lominsa sometime in the near future, though, on account of wanting or needing to expand his horizons in the art of arcanima! And the dusty old books are always a bonus haha; Leon loves those things. They're like magnets to him.

Both of your Duskwights (!! All the Duskwight love to go around <3) sound like they'd mesh well with Leon! I'm sure he and Michaux could find a lot of interesting stuff to talk about, and I'd definitely love to see where that plot idea goes with Bastien.... I love long-term plots so I'll definitely be following up on that one later (but at the moment I'm running a little short on time and I'm trying to address everyone because wow I didn't expect my dumb science Elezen to drum up so much interest)! Especially considering that I definitely wanna do more things having to do with Leon's Echo since it's probably the most/only interesting plot thing I have worked into his character by default.

I'm definitely interested in your FC but as I mentioned I am planning on hopping between FCs! I hope it's alright with you and your FC; if so then I'll definitely give you guys a try and when I'm trying out different FCs and stuff! :>
