Think Valence was referencing the lore for XIV's Cuchulainn:
Encyclopedia Eorzea pg300 Wrote:One theory places the void's formation in the hands of champions such as Cuchulainn who wielded a stone known as "auracite" to conquer their plane's primals. The weapon, however, possessed a fatal imperfection: a propensity to bleed primal energies. With each victory, the heroes changed, transforming at last into fiends of endless appetite. Insatiable in their hunger for aether, they ultimately went to war over the star's ever-dwindling life force. It was during this war that the Flood of Darkness was unleashed.

This connection between the Scions of Light from XII and the Ascians of XIV has been made before, but was ultimately given an answer by Fernehalwes.

Fernehalwes Wrote:Oh, man. This is not as cool an answer as you’re expecting. Final Fantasy is about borrowing, taking things other Final Fantasies did and adjusting it and making it your own. The fact that the XIV team has a lot of people that worked on XII—our main scenario writer, Maehiro-san, also worked on XII, Minagawa-san, the guy that did all of the UI, also XII, he’s working with us, and also Yoshida-san himself being a fan of Final Fantasy XII—this is one of the games they wanted to borrow heavily from because they thought it was really cool, and they really liked the imagery and lore that it had. So they want to borrow from it, and of course they know Final Fantasy XII has its story, and they don’t want to take that story and put it into XIV, because it’s not XIV, it’s XII, but they want to draw on that imagery and those connections. It’s not random, but it might not be as deep a meaning as you think it is.
I think the only people confirmed to posses the "transcend" aspect of the Echo like that is Minfillia/Warriors of Darkness and they're, quite literally, the chosen of Hydaelyn.

Could you? Yes. Should you? Eh. I think it'll be a lot more work and a lot less rewarding than you think, especially if you're trying to make connections.
My goodness at the answers! I didn't expect so many so quickly! That at least tells me the community seems to be thriving.

Goodness knows that you're all way more polite than the people over in.. well.. that place.

Anyways. Seeing how the concept has been filled with holes, some lorewise, most just based on "this wouldn't be fun for others, and that would mean it wouldn't be fun for you either." I'll consider this path of possible rp to be cancelled.

I'm not really upset about it either. Only thing I'm upset about is that I didn't see the various points most of y'all made. In the past I would have seen them first. Either I'm rusty as hell, or I'm getting old! Or both! Frustrated

Here's to hoping for a long rp life in FFXIV! Thumbsup
You shouldn't feel bad about it! I've had my own share of high-concept characters that I thought were great but just... would have been better served by solo-writing as opposed to a group atmosphere. It doesn't mean you can't do it! It just means it's not necessarily a good match for public consumption.

As other explained above, I'm only mentioning him with tongue in cheek because he is one of the big hints over what happened exactly in the 13rd Shard of the FFXIV world. As you probably know he is the third boss encountered in the Void Ark, and is a Voidsent of pristine Rank One (the top of the Void cream). He is also mentioned in the lorebook as one of the fallen Warriors of Light of the 13rd shard, the same shard that turned into the World of Darkness, aka the Void.

So the question would be, in your theory, which of the FF worlds would be the 13rd Shard, the World of Darkness? And which of the FF worlds would be the 1st Shard, the world of the Warriors of Darkness we learn about in 3.4 and that got scorched by the Light? We can go on over the idea, but I think the more you think about it, the more plot holes and inconsistencies would pile up pretty quick. And I didn't know Fernehalwes actually said something about it, but it seems to hint in the direction that they borrow, rather than integrate. The Shattoto, or the Gilgamesh you see in XIV, are not necessarily the same you see in XI or V, even if they are world hopping characters... Scratch that actually, they hop between shards of the XIV universe, which is vastly different.

More directly, my point was: Could you? Yes. Should You? No. Yes it can be done, but would the vast majority avoid you for it? Yes, I believe they would and that would be a rough start into your FFXIV experience for RP.
I feel like this topic has reached a conclusion but one thing on the topic of multiverse in FFXIV has always bothered me. Things like this.

We have very clear evidence of characters from other games coming to FFXIV but what about the one or two times where it seems like they're already part of the world? Did the events of those games happen in FFXIV? Do those characters exist in FFXIV but their stories are different? Could the characters traverse the multiverse and meet....themselves?

I think in this particular case, it's SE doing a throwback. Much in the same way we somehow got clothes from multiple different previous Final Fantasy titles from Veterans rewards. It's there for OOC fun, not necessarily an IC reason. Aside from Gilgamesh (and the couple other events), we haven't seen any named characters from other titles travel to/stay in Eorzea.
Most of the minions "native" to Eorzea have a little lore blurb, even the more outlandish ones, about being commissioned by the Goldsmiths' Guild or sown by Tataru or whatever. Those veteran rewards usually don't, so they can be taken as being an OOC (or out of universe?) thing put in by the devs for fun.

Correction here: Final Fantasy Tactics came out in 1998.

Same world as XII and all, but this is a thing that's been around the FF franchise since the late 90's.

He looks kind of like Mr. Oogie Boogie.

Anyway, just wanted to clear that up in it's entirety.

On this whole discussion, I see we've covered Shantotto, and the other crossover events that are kind of canon.

For future readers (as I just read the date as I'm idly cruising through things)

What I think you should be asking yourself with multiverse anything is "...yeah, why though?" Because if it's "well, I want to stand out", you're chasing a spotlight you're never gonna catch.

What good are any of these flashes of other worlds? Why would they be interesting to strangers? What are you gonna do with these visions? If they effect nothing, and can be reached by nobody, why bother?
