I'm not sure if this is the right spot to ask but I'll try anyway!
Illust is a drug dealer who prides herself on making her own supply and having things that you wouldn't "normally" be able to get.

With that said, are there any drugs in Eorzea other than alchohol that are ever mentioned?
Or, for those of you in criminal type groups/FCs, are there basic drugs that are sort of run-of-the-mill or your go-to's?
Fogweed exists, milkroot can induce hallucinations and there's a nerve-deadener that turns up in the PUG questline to explain how someone's able to ignore wounds. The sky's the limit, really.

Somnus has been made to sound like opium based on its name and the etymology of the poppy flower.

Edit: Moko grass turns to hemp so a few of us have gone further, getting potent moko grass for marijuana though I think there is something that is weed equivalent.

Pluto is the drug in the PUG questline.

iirc, milkroot is a drug for sylphs, to spoken it is poisonous.

Look at you, with your facts and your knowledge.

Still, if it exists in the lore there's no reason to think people can't engineer a way to have it not murderkill people. Where there's a will, there's a way!
Illicit Drugs

Somnus
Chuchuto Wrote:Somnus... That's the mind warping-substance made from dream flowers. Those who overindulge are said to fall into an eternal slumber.
Ahldskyf Wrote:As you suspected, these are the highly illegal blooms known as dream flowers. They are the prime ingredient in the creation of “somnus”─a substance whose fragrance is said to lull the sniffer's mind into the sleep of death.
Hungry Hobbledehoy Wrote:Please, ma'am. My baby brother is hungry, but my mother is too weak to feed him. My father left before I reached my third nameday, and my grandfather died last week in Copperbell Mines. My sister moved away to a rich merchant's house and no longer visits us, and my older brother lies all day in the corner with his somnus pipe... If you could spare some food... Even the leaves of a cactuar would suffice...

Pluto
Weggfarr Wideaxe Wrote:'Case yer wonderin', that was pluto! Just a draft of it, an' yer body turns hard as iron! Not even blades can pierce it!

Milkroot
Milkroot Wrote:The thick white sap extracted from this ochu root has the power to grant its user wondrously terrible visions.
Got Milkroot Wrote:Milkroot is a curse upon the people of the Twelveswood, destroying lives and tearing apart families. The sylphs who grow the deadly drug must be dealt with, but until they can be found, we must concentrate our efforts on ridding the forest of the saplings.
Dreamtoad Ooze Wrote:A slippery substance secreted by a dreamtoad. Known to enhance the hallucinatory effects of milkroot.

Dreamweed
Dreamweed Wrote:A prohibited substance. Merely knowing of its existence is hazardous to one's health.

Miscellaneous (Not Necessarily Illict) Substances

Peculiar Herb Wrote:A common weed rumored to have relaxing properties when either ingested or smoked.

A Matter of Vital Importance Wrote:Ah, another cockeyed order for your purse's pleasure: potion of vitality to "awake the inner beastman." Charming. You know, I've oft wondered if most men wouldn't be better served by a potion of unmanning. My own life may be called an abject lesson in the perils of licentiousness.

Just Give Him a Serum Wrote:Like all of Master Gegeruju's purchases, the men that guard Costa del Sol are the finest of their kind. It is perhaps no surprise that such men have certain—eccentricities. Take this formulation, make your delivery, and thank the gods that they are on our side.

Don't Forget to Take Your Meds Wrote:Final examinations are coming up at Frondale's Phrontistery. One can hardly sleep for all the shrieking, and the streets below the dormitories fill with a miasma of fretful sighs heavy with onions and wakefulness. At this juncture, the potion of intelligence would be a public service.

A Real Fungi Wrote:The land around the Stead is full of wild mushrooms. None of them are exactly poison, but they put folk out of the way for a few bells, if you get my meaning. Now, we've got someone coming from the bank─you'll not hear the reason why from me─and we need a dish of mushies so toothsome he'll eat it all.

A Roseling by Any Other Name Wrote:Known for its aphrodisiacal properties, sap from the vines of the rarely seen Ocean Roseling has become increasingly popular on the pleasure boats anchored in the bay off the Captains Ward. The Brugaire Consortium will handsomely reward anyone willing to travel to Bloodshore and procure several specimens.

The Root of the Problem Wrote:A pack of normally placid antelopes has grown frenzied and begun attacking botanists participating in the Greatloam Growery's reforestation project. After inspecting the carcass of one of the beastkin, it is believed the animals must have eaten the leaves of the blackroot rose, known to cause horrible visions and induce extreme fits of violence. In their current state, the animals are a threat to the botanists, the forest, and themselves, and so to prevent any further incidents, it has been decided that the antelops must be put down. Our guild is searching for adventurers willing to carry out the grim task.

Spores for the Ceremony Wrote:The Stillglade Fane is busy making preparations for this moon's Woodgreet Mass, and requires the spores of several funguar to use in the Leafreading Ceremony, in which several of the brothers and sisters ingest the spores, which are said to give them the temporary power to "see" the messages left by the spirits in the leaves.

Devil Take the Foremost Wrote:Ah, the Coliseum management. They have taken the recent odium over alchemical enhancements to their black hearts and propose to let combatants alter their chemistry unhindered. Pray to the Twelve these alchemical potations will not further addle those long befuddled by dreams of glory.

Riches' Brew Wrote:I need hardly tell you that alchemy remains a major industry for Ul'dah; potions are now one of our top exports. The exact economics may be beyond your capacity to understand—I intend no offense—but suffice to say that the dragon wars in Ishgard have been very… good to us.

Dried Cloudcrawler Wrote:Cloudcrawler is a swift-growing vine that clings to the bottoms of islets found in the Sea of Clouds. When dried, the vines are pliable enough to weave into baskets or even crude armor.
(Appears to off-gas euphoric aroma that affects Gaelicats. Unknown if it also affects the races of man.)

If you're looking for more herbal stuff for drug creation, medicines, etc I'd recommend checking out Tinolqa's Botanica Eorzea.
Seems like milkweed is an addictive hallucinogenic drug to people/spoken while it's more like alcohol to the sylphs, per their beast tribes quests.
What's the evidence for Catsfoot being a stimulant? I saw the word confection and assumed it was just a chewy candy, maybe like wagashi.

Went back over the quest dialogue and I guess it was just how I was interpreting Laniaitte saying how the knights were tired and suddenly when you give the knights the catsfoot chew they're ready to go through the drudgery of sentinel duty with renewed vigor. But the text is pretty vague and could easily just be that they were hungry - though I'm not quite sure how filling one small chew (I saw Eorzean Eats compare them to kusa mochi) would be? I didn't see anything about mochi or wagashi that hinted at it being reinvigorating until I read that kusa mochi can be made with mugwort, which apparently in the middle ages was believed to cure fatigue and ward off evil, so. Dunno! I'll remove it from the list though! ^^

Just went through the text myself to make sure as well! There are maaaaany types of wagashi and mochi, and like you said, some are made with mugwort or cudweed. I just assumed the catsfoot chew was a sweet comfort to the knights stationed out in the cold. Just like being brought a donut might lift your spirits.
Awesome! Thanks for the help~
Not enough of them around to be honest, drug trade is alive and well in Ul'dah, but you can buy anything there ICly really. Seen rare artifacts, slaves, prostitution, drugs, livestock and mounts, you name it, and I've seen it traded. Really makes you think about how Ul'dah must really be deep down, a city founded on greed and the worth of the soul weighed in gold. Paints you a very different picture than this rosy utopian world where Sultansworn and other factions are the ultimate rule of law in the land, and keep peace. A city that rots from the inside out.

Huh. I never got the rosy picture vibe from Ul'dah at any point. Quite the opposite. That might be because the idea of "monetarists" being a governing body is really abhorrent to me though. (And yes, I realizing I'm living on the wrong planet for those sentiments, tbh, lol.)

Nor have I, but had been a failing opinion of this community at times. Misguided attempts of justice RP taken out of the context of a realistic look at the city into the realm of pompous or narrow view of the complexity of both the lore and the other players in an RP relationship.

I believe the concept of "it is what you make of it" comes into play in a lot of RPers who RP in Ul'dah. Just as there are masses who are ignorant of the inner workings of the nation/city in which they live, so too do many players play characters who are ignorant of the inner workings of Ul'dah. I will concede it's possible a good number of players don't fully grasp the true nature of Ul'dah, which filters into their RP style. Hence 'it is what you make of it'.
