Hi there!

I am very eager to start roleplaying, and recently I was looking for new MMOs to do that. A lot of people recommended XIV over the majority of other games. I have been roleplaying for years, though recently forum, text and other MMOs (when it comes to roleplaying) have grown mundane on me.

The only closest thing I have been to a Final Fantasy game was when I was observing my brother's friend play on his laptop years and years behind. I do remember he had a chicken similar to this: Chocobo (which seems cute might I add)

For now, I am mostly seeking someone to hold my hand through the process. Tell me some of the foundations, as it is clearly not simply "choose a server and start roleplaying!" - I would love it if I can chat with someone patient enough to carry me over their backs and tour me around!

What's a character transfer for, and how do I do it?
Do I buy a subscription, and do I need to level up before getting involved in roleplay? So and so on.
You must buy the game as well as the subscription, but leveling is not required for role-playing, just gives you more clothing and location selections! I suggest finding a server you want to play on (weighing the options of huge RP playerbase with transfer fee vs smaller rp community but no fees). That way, once you're kicking it in game, folks from the RPC can help you out in game wherever you choose to reside.

That being said, there's nothing we won't answer on the forums!
Balmung is the biggest server for RP, but it is generally locked so you do need to transfer. There are small pockets like Siren and I think Matus has a good bit. Transfers are processed thru mogstation, costing 18 bucks.

As far as level? Since you are brand new to the world I recommend taking your time and learning a bit about it before diving in. If you chose Balmung, there are tons of different niches to find. But being so big you do need to be pretty proactive in getting out there.

I can transfer a character from an official server into one that is not, i.e Balmung?

Balmung is an official server as far as I know. It's only coined the "Unofficial RP Server" because that's what the community sees it as and was not Square's original plan for it. It's just a label, it should transfer fine.Thumbsup
Hey there and welcome aboard to the RPC, and to your impending move to Balmung! Thumbsup

Think everyone here has already got you in good hands!
Thank you, all! I truly and wholeheartedly appreciate your help. Heart

Hello and welcome!

I dare say you'll have rp opportunities aplenty here, in forums and ingame. Just watch out for how you get in Balmung if you're not in it yet. It's infamous for being locked but carries more of an rp presense (though don't let that stop you to try in other worlds of course!)

Ahh, Chocobo the chicken~ Bu-kwek~

As for those other stuff... umm...pardon if I end up repeating anything... ahem

A character transfer basically has you pay a bit... There's more about that in the lodestone but do note you have to have the character you logged as to have accumulated a certain amount of hours before it's considered transferable....

Which is probably why it would be a good idea to just choose another open server to wet your feet on the game itself. Aside from the suggestions here, you can check out the Linkshell page in Other, as well as Resources too.

The only subscription to worry about is just to be able to play the game. But you certainly won't need a licence to kill rp of course.

Here in this link, if you scroll down and find Service Fee, you'll see the options of how much you pay, how many days you get to play, and how to pay for them. Just in case you needed to be aware of that. If you knew that then never mind this part~

Well as answered before, leveling up just means you get to wear more clothes and access new areas. For example, if you have heavensward expansion, you'll need to progress through MSQ (Main Story Quest) to get access to the new area... but as far as I'm aware, plenty of rps occur in the city states, such as the Quicksand in Ul'dath (talking from Balmung perspective by the by)

So look at it this way:

If you can't get on Balmung, you have the option to pick a world and just do it for the gaming (and follow things like Roleplay Events and post/respond on Making Connections too) while getting the feel of your char and the world itself. You can use the opportunity to check out the Community board to study up and such. I suggest to check out pinned stuff first to get you started.

Remember that one of the criteria you need meet  for world transfer is to accumulate a certain amount of hours ingame for your char. Because once you do, its up to you if you still wish to do the char transfer to Balmung... or wait for maintenance to get into the world right after it is done.

Sorry if this is all overwhelming for you. I wanted to give you plenty of info so that you can look through them all both at your discretion and pace! I hope this is enough to help you get started.

Good luck! And may the path you choose be filled with the light of the crystal!
So! I've made it. I leveled to 51 on another server and I moved to this server. When I am not leveling, where is the go-to destination for Roleplay?
I'd say the Weekly Event Calendar is a great place to start. You'll find all sorts of amazing player-run RP events/RP hubs. Inns, Taverns, Fighting Tournaments, Health Clinics, you name it! If you want more casual RP, The Quicksand is probably your easiest bet. Another option is to look into the various linkshells and Free Companies listed here, if you're looking for a group that fits your character's style or just need some extra friends! Happy hunting and welcome!
Hello there, welcome to Balmung! Big Grin
