Hello there!

This actually pertains to everyone but I was wondering how other RPers were playing it. Obviously if you share a surname you're more or less in the same tribe but are people playing it as if we're all literally from one huge family or if there are sub-tribes within the tribe and we're a bit more stretched out? Like, the same way I IRL have family in Michigan and Indiana but we're the same family.

I wasn't sure and I didn't want to impinge upon anyone's RP with my character so I've been defining things from my character as a sub-clan or group from the Kha (The Mongke Kha) to make sure that if anyone said anything different I could just be like "We're weird, lol" or such.

If people ARE doing their own sub-groups which have their own tradition within the Kha, what are they like? It'd be nice to collect the different variations of my cousins.
I wasn't really going to have my Kha be from a sub-tribe. Lore about Kha is still limited, but they seem to be cultural chameleons who live closer to "civilization" than other Xaela tribes. My Kha is wandering around Eorzea at present doing mercenary work, learning new ways to curse, and drinking lots of booze. I'm... not sure that's helpful, lol.
We know that
1) the Xaela live a nomadic lifestyle
2) each tribe controls territory, and wars with neighbors over it.

That leads me to think that the entire tribe doesn't always stick together.  If you're constantly defending your borders, and you don't have permanent frontier settlements, it stands to reason that you're going to spread out a bit.
Quote:Möngke Kha, the ancestor of Sarantali's lineage, took their family's predilection towards incorporating useful knowledge of other cultures as doctrine to inform his magic. Over time, this combination of shamanistic rituals, Doman tradition, and aetheric philosophy became a powerful esoteric cosmology which he taught to others. His followers became known as the Möngke-Kha after their ancestor and formed into clan led by their war leaders and their Onmyodo.

Any who show a talent are encouraged to develop their own magical stylings using the basis taught by the family and adding bits of powerful magics and rituals that they encounter in the world. As a result the family's shaman are a remarkably eclectic bunch, bearing bits and pieces of practice from anything they've seen working and incorporating it into their own. Those members who don't show any talent with the arts are frequently either warriors or herders; the collection of knowledge over generations had led to the Mongke-Kha having rather excellent livestock that forms their main trade.

As tradition dictates, titles are passed down from eldest child to eldest child in the main lineage with their leader known as the Sun of the Mongke-Kha. In order to discourage conflict, the second child is styled as the Moon and sworn from birth to defend their elder sibling. Any children passed this are styled as Stars and serve frequently as diplomats. The Sun of the Möngke-Kha leads the family into war, peace and seals negotiations, the Moon makes divinations, handles rituals, and keeps its secret lore, its magical traditions, and its written records of trade and breeding.

In recent times, there was strife within the Möngke-Kha between their more traditionalist members and leader, Temürdai, who insisted on the continued migrations and travel between cities and places and cultures, and the rising sun, Narange, who wished to cultivate stronger (criminal) ties within Doma and use their well cultivated reputation and magical prowess to amass power for themselves. Traditionally the Möngke-Kha would travel in a circuit between Doma, Kugane and the Steppe, the push to establish stronger Doman ties led to their time in the city state growing longer and longer before the attack.

Under Narange, the family strengthened their criminal ties as strategists, smugglers and mystics for hire. Anyone who had criminal dealings in Doma might have run into these Magicians-for-Hire or even had a stake in the power struggle between Temürdai and his son.

Was my personal lore for Sarantali.
