So after lurking here for the past few days (which started after reading Eva's nicely written handbook), I figure that maybe I should register and say hello, since I'll probably be seeing a number of you on Balmung.

My experience with XIV is limited, I participated in the 1.0 beta but the game engine really didn't like my computer, and even on the lowest settings it became a stuttering mess and I forgot all about it.
Recently though I started hearing rumblings about ARR, including how it has been rebooted and the positive feedback it's received so far. I missed out on the closed beta but I've spent hours going through the character creator and the benchmark, even on maximum settings, is giving me an average of 60 FPS. So without even playing the game I can already see there's been a substantial improvement. This makes me happy.

I've been playing FF since I was a kid, VIII was my introduction to the series and will always be my favourite for nostalgia alone, second only to VI and I'll admit, I enjoyed XII a lot. But it's easier to just say that I haven't played III, IX, X, XI and XIII. I have to admit, when I started looking at FFXIV, I was blown away by how much it referenced previous games and I preordered immediately after coming across the magitek armour video. I think to say I'm excited is an understatement.

Anyway, I have played previous MMOs and I've always liked the idea of RP but I've never really found many groups that do it. For me, it's all about immersion, I like to put myself in that world, so I guess you could say my style is very personal (although I never take things personally, I see the distinction between IC and OOC quite clearly), I like to draw on my experiences, my traits, my flaws and project them into that world. I can write, but I often choose not to. I have my history worked out but I like the element of surprise, I like to find things out.
So for example I seldom read character bios, not because I'm not interested, but I like to find out all of this information within the reality my character exists in. I'm not a huge fan of scripts or pre planning, or being the protagonist in my own fully fleshed out epic story arc.
I like to just exist, and see where the world takes me, react to events and people naturally and just see what occurs. Call me boring but I like the idea of finding out about your character over a conversation and a drink in a tavern (or more likely a casual linkshell exchange while I'm stabbing things with some metal). For me the story is the present, and although the past may influence it, I think finding out about the past can be apart of the story.

Basically, when I roleplay, I think 'what would MacGy- I do if I was in this world' (keeping in mind the circumstances and influences of that world). I do it for single player games too, it's why my Commander Shepard isn't a true Paragon or Renegade, but a mix of both. I'm not sure why, but for some reason, I just can't relate to playing a character that is drastically different to me, so I've always made one character that is both physically and mentally similar to myself and I never, ever make alts. Although this isn't to say that I make things exact, I mean I can't be a wizard in real life but if it was possible? I'd totally be throwing thunder from my fists.

Not that I think there is anything wrong with larger than life characters, alts, epic pre planned story arcs and such. I fully realise that everyone has their own way of roleplaying and everyone enjoys it differently and I always make exceptions, or compromise on my preferred way of doing things if it's easier for others. I'm just weirdCactuar

So with that in mind, I totally look forward to playing FFIX with you guys, you all seem awesome and I really like the feel of this community.

Welcome to the community! Smile There have been quite a bit of improvements from what I have seen with the game. I've enjoyed it to say the least and it is incredibly friendly to rpers. I do hope you enjoy yourself in game and on the forums here. Big Grin
You have an interesting approach to RP and I agree with it 100%. I believe it's important to spend more time trying to reflect the flaws and traits your character possesses in RP rather than writing a novel for a biography. It's more immerse to just meet characters as they are, and not have a back story. It would be so weird in RL if people just knew everyone's back story from the jump! haha.

Oh and Final Fantasy VIII is my favorite jam! I am leaning to focusing on Pug/Monk because of how awesome I thought Zell was when I was a kid. We should get a travel group together Big Grin
Welcome Jove! I think everyone can appreciate that style of roleplaying, so I doubt you'll have a difficult time finding friends. Smile Who doesn't love immersion?!

Enjoy your time here and hope to see you in the game!
Hi, Jove!
Wow you do sound like someone who knows exactly what you want and what you don't want, that's cool!
... And your character will be named Logan? Whew, that is double cool!

Welcome to RPC! Hope to run into Logan somewhere IG! Bouncy
providing that he's not a villain of some sort... I'm scared of bad guys.
*pounces Jove* Hello, glad to see you join and welcome, agree with you on the RP. nice to see someone also share same approach to RP side.
Oh wow, thanks for the warm replies, it's really nice to find an online community that has this kind of atmosphere. I have to admit I became a little anxious after I posted, I didn't realise just how much wall of text I had created (fake edit: and it looks like I've done the same).

I'm really glad to see that my RP style isn't too unconventional or shunned, I could deal if it wasn't really accepted, but obviously it's far more enjoyable to RP with like minded individuals.

Oh man, and I completely forgot to even mention my character. Forgetfulness is definitely a flaw.

But yes, Logan LaMort is my character's name, I spent many hours researching the various lore and naming conventions of Eorzea to come up with it.

Actually that's a total lie, it's a name I've been using for a few years across different games and I've grown quite fond of it. Fortunately it kind of fits within the world of Hydaelyn and the lore (I think).

I'll be playing as a Hyur Midlander, mainly because again, I like to make a character that is more or less physically similar to myself (although an Elezen was a close second). I've not yet decided on my first class, but I'm heavily leaning towards Marauder/Warrior, with Arcanist/Summoner and Lancer/Dragoon being a close second. Although if SE ever release a kind of Battlemage class, yeah, I'd all over that.

Thank you! I have just realised I may or may not have bought a new GFX card between the 1.0 FFXIV beta and now, but regardless, the more information I track down, the better it all sounds.

I'm amazed that thought never occurred to me! Poor Zell always gets forgotten about, I mean I saw the Garlean soldiers use gunblades and I immediately thought of the Galbadian soldiers, but Zell? Nope, even though thinking about it, you could easily make a Zell lookalike in the character creator... or Kiros! I think my all time favourite character may be Fujin, 'RAGE'.

Again, thanks Big Grin I really look forward to seeing everyone on these forums in game, well, those on Balmung anyway.

I aim to impress! Actually... I usually aim to not get eaten alive by less than savoury lifeforms, but in this instance, I'll make an exception.

Only if you get on my bad side... or wake me up without sufficient reason or breakfast.

I honestly thought it was an uncommon approach based on my previous experience, it's a relief to see that it's not Smile
