I figured this would be the best place to ask this - is there anyone who has extensive knowledge on Ishgard (not that we've received a lot from what I've been able to dig up).  If so, kindly shoot me a private message?

<3 Thank you! <3
Hey Esper,

I only know a bit about Ishgard, I assumed my quest for lore will encounter more of them.

Here is what I got from my Lore Collection
------------------------------------------------------------------------
My native land was once famous for its chocobo stables. No man in Eorzea could speak of the creatures without his thoughts turning naturally to Ishgard. Sadly, however, that time has passed. I left my homeland to accept employment here at the ranch, instructing others in the methods of chocobo husbandry. Yet I have found that it is often I who am the recipient of others' instruction─and on a great many matters! Truly, one can never know what life may hold in store.—Luquelot
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The wyvern is a sinuous scalekin that cuts swiftly through the air on large, membranous wings. A less-imposing relative of dragons, wyverns often serve as frontline troops in the endless assault on the fortifications of Ishgard.—Official Website
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Of all the things that are symbolic of the nation of Ishgard, few are more recognized than the dragoon. Born amidst the timeless conflict between men and dragons, these lance-wielding knights have developed an aerial style of combat, that they might better pierce the scaled hides of their mortal foes. Taking to the firmament as though it were an extension of the land, they descend upon the enemy with every onze of their bodies behind the blow. It is this penetrative power that characterizes the dragoon.—Official Website

If you want to know more, simply go to my Lore Collection and find the keyword "Ishgard". If you are interested, I also have a Dialogue Collection.

Hope you find these helpful.
I suggest that you push in your storyline quests to reach Coerthas because, well...there's a lot of stuff about Ishgard there.
@Liadan:  I actually just got there last night.  Have to remember to actually -gossip- with the NPC's here.  <3

@Coral:  Thanks!  That's some nifty stuff!
It seems to be a pretty harsh place from what I've gathered from NPC dialogue so far. Aside from the brutally cold climate a lot of the natives are so obsessed with their war against dragons that they fail to focus upon the various other threats creeping into the region. Outsiders are typically frowned upon by most of the natives, though there's a few exceptions here and there.

There also appears to be a lot of tension involving the dead - anyone who perishes to a dragon is considered a hero whilst those who fall to anything else barely get a second glance. One elderly woman sends the player character on a quest into a ravine to locate a missing family member and explicitly states that his comrades simply left his corpse there after he fell. She's very grateful to have him finally laid to rest and to have a memento as a keepsake.
Climate-wise, I've seen the before and after shots / videos of the region.  There's an NPC in The Shroud that even tells you that the snow crept up out of nowhere on the Ishgardians.

Yeah, um, they're also uh...I don't quite know how to put this.

These people are freaking lunatics.

Sorry, I know it's just my opinion, but I found myself doing double-takes every other quest.  Some of the things they do make no logical sense.  And as Theodric said, they appear to be so obsessed with fighting the dragons that they don't really notice anything else.  And they don't perceive anything else to be a threat.

Their obsession with "heretics" and the entire storyline up there makes me wonder if I'm going to find out some things later on.  I just hit 40 so I have to get to 41 to get my next quest.

I know a great deal about Ishgard. My main lived there from birth until a few days before the Calamity, and I've done quite a lot of research on Ishgard and their Dragoons in order to make his story solid. If you have any questions, kindly shoot them my way and I'll be sure to answer them.

I think it would be amazingsauce if you would be willing to write up a little blurb here.  While I don't play an Ishgardian character, I would love to read more about them.  ^_^

That's actually not a bad idea at all. Unfortunately, I'll be stepping out for work soon, but I'll be sure to follow up on this as soon as I can. Thumbsup
One major question I had, Ishgard was like every other state right, in terms of being multiracial and all? I was kinda thinking my Hellguard could have ties there, but I obviously am not 100% sure if it welcomed types like her.

There seem to be a few Midlander Hyur around, mainly as sellswords, but I don't think I saw a single Roe there at all.  Or Lala, for that matter.  They seem pretty Xenophobic, if Coerthas is any indication.

It's multiracial to a point. They've been isolated for a long long time, so you're not going to find many (if any) Miqo'te there, for instance, because their race showed up a little late in the world's history. Hellsguard I'd have to check, but given their ties to Ul'dah and the desert, I'd say "no".  The city-state is mostly Elezen and Hyur, with a few others kind of sprinkled in scarcely.

Most of what I know from Ishgard in ARR is hearsay (albeit, very reliable hearsay) because my own character hasn't made it that far yet, thanks to error 1017. My area of expertise is 1.0, but I'll be sure to get back to you on the Hellsguard situation though.
Thanks to everyone who responded!

Dare I say the following?  Why, yes....  Yes I do!

Ishgardians unite!!

...okay.  Campy-ness over.  <3 <3
