Basically they're stereotypes.. Albeit very weird and specific stereotypes, used in all sorts of media.
Basically, a trope is a plot device, character archetype, sound effect, etc. that is used often enough in media that it becomes distinct and recognizable. Some are much more common than others. I suggest that you look up a movie, book, or show that you are familiar with in the search box on the site and browse it's list of tropes. Should help it make more sense.

What the drunken one said.
Malrend is a gentleman of taste and class.
I spent more time than I should have, but probably not enough to get a solid list. These sound like they describe Eva pretty well.

Hot Librarian: Probably really attractive, but you'd never know it.
Dead Little Sister: Tragedy! (not her sister)
Heroic BSOD: The result of said tragedy! (also really love the trope title)
Break the Cutie: Why do bad things happen to good people?
Beware the Nice Ones: 48th rule of acquisition - "The bigger the smile, the sharper the knife."
The Quiet One: Yeah... she's a little emo...
Berserk Button: But she's not gonna lose any more loved ones without a fight.
Mama Bear: Don't mess with her cubs!! (no, there are no children)
Wise Beyond Their Years: Pretty much self-explanatory.
Fillion Fenias

Anti-Villain - Yes, Fill is generally a bad guy.

Handsome Lech - Fill is flirtatious this round, but light-hearted about it and doesn't expect it to go anywhere.

Affably Evil - Charming as hell, that deviant son of a bitch. You won't even know it.

Magnificent Bastard - He's a tactical genius despite talking slow. Makes it easy to get you out of your pants and in the line of fire.

Screw the Rules, I have Money! - Fillion has money and power from his two trades and is not afraid to exercise it.

Dragon with an Agenda - Fillion has all of the makings of an overlord. However due to him being younger and less experienced in this universe, he isn't quite up to taking over just yet.

Seemed like a Good Idea at the Time - When Fillion does mess up, it's probably a bad mess-up and he'll attempt to shrug it off.

Gentleman Thief - Lupin the third if there ever was one. Fillion -does- get involved in petty theft to support funds for his operations. CrimsonBlades in general however, only get involved in very high quality relics.

Bad Ass - Yes... in how they describe it... he is.

Screw the Rules, I have Connections! - Hand in hand with Fill's money, Fillion is a mob-boss in his own right with powerful connections to underground sects.

Ellion Direfrost

Jerkass Facade - Ell is a very serious character in his own mind. He keeps people at a distance because it's easier to deal with them.

Dark and Troubled Past - OOCly Ell's wife died. Why? Secret. :o

A Darker Me - By default, Ell was originally what I aspired to be so he wins this.

Anti-Hero - The very definition of.

Not So Stoic - Ell is expressive (an upgrade to what people say he used to be) and a little sarcastic and cynical with violent tendencies in disputes.

TCPIFAR - He doesn't like to talk about his issues. 'Nuff said.

The Lancer - Ironically called The Lancer and he plays a Lancer, but Ell is usually the first character a major plot-point will take place on. This doesn't make him great, it makes him noticeable.

Smug Snake - yyeeaa

Knight in Sour Armor - Defiant to the end, Ellion is a character who will never give up because it's the right thing to do. He'll suffer overly serious damage and pain and will either die or pass out before succumbing. This makes his pain threshould and focus very high.
Characteristics:
Lawful Neutral

This was the first and probably hardest trope for me to pick. From her perspective she is very Lawful Netural, but from the view of others... she could be Lawful Good, Chaotic Good, or even some form of Evil depending on the circumstance.

Weak But Skilled
This one is a bit of an exageration, but for the most part she makes up for her lack of brawn by finding clever ways around it. She is by no means a master of swordsmanship or anything of the sort though.

Unfettered
This one was also very tough. I'm still not sure if she is Unfettered or Fettered, but I'm leaning toward unfettered at the moment. When she has a contract to fulfill, she is pretty blind to any other secondary objectives she might have. This also goes for a few others things. I'm still formalizing her code/beliefs.

Walking the Earth
She travels. A lot.

Nerves of Steel
Explosions and giant dragons? No problem. She'll keep her cool and try to figure something out and if nothing seems to be possible she might just make one of those last stands.

The Philosopher
She derived her own set of world view from what she picked up on the road. This make her prone to discussion about things that other people might not think about. She never attempts to force her views on others though.

Crazy Prepared

After travelling with caravans that are prone to being raided by whatever greedy or downright evil folk are wandering around, she tends to pack something for every situation she can think of. Spare sword? Why not five?

Know When To Fold Em
This one may seem to conflict with some of her other traits, but even when she is hooked on an objective she maintains her sense well enough to figure out whether or not the route she is taking is the best one. Sure, you could attempt cutting down an entire fortress of soldiers... or you could try sneaking in.

Honor Before Reason
...even if no one has ever made it in to said fort alive.

Beliefs:
Grey and Grey Morality
This one is kinda hard to explain. She think sher beliefs are entirely logical, but her perception on morality could be considered strange by most people. At times she appears to view the world in a very Grey v. Grey Morality, so she doesn't actively get involved with most moral debates and simple views both sides as particpants. She'll only take sides if there is some reason beyond what is considered "right" and "wrong". This could also be considered Blue v. Orange Morality especially to those with a very clear sense of what is right and wrong.

Epiphanic Prison
Most of her beliefs are centered around the idea that we choose the prison we live our lives. But on her more optomistic days she wonders if there is a way that one can entirely break all the chains that bind them in the world. This is what this trope represents to her.

I Gave My World
Will Not Tell A Lie
These two go together in a sense. She is almost psychotically truthful and as such will never make a promise she would not keep as it would be just as damaging to her perception of her own integrity as outright lieing.

Is NOT:
Glacier Waif
Dumb Muscle
Knight In Shining Armor

Note: This was a really fun exercise. It helped me flesh out my character a lot.
Ok, I figured this would be a fun thing to do as a little intro of sorts since I'm kind of new to the site. Here's a little glimpse into Inoxia.

CatGirl. This time it -is- a race thing.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/CatGirl

Freudian Excuse. Some experiences we never out grow.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...dianExcuse

Kuudere. Very few make it inside her shell, but there is a soft warm underbelly beneath her cold shoulder.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/Kuudere

Snark Knight. Tied into above.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...narkKnight

Lady of War. Grace, composure, elegance, her almost noble demeanor even in combat.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/LadyOfWar

Cultured Warrior. Manners and respect are as important between enemies as between friends.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...redWarrior

Quip to Black. Sometimes she'll chime in on the humor only to get the last word and wonder why everyone stopped laughing...
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/QuipToBlack

Weak but Skilled. She may be smaller and weaker, but she knows how to make her speed and surroundings count in the heat of battle.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...ButSkilled

Double Entendre. She's always quick to see or use a double meaning. Her mind may be in the gutter, but she does have tact.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...leEntendre

Will Not Tell a Lie. Nothing more to say there. She just wont lie. She may dance around the truth a bit but she wont tell a straight lie.
http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Ma...otTellALie
I might as well add Tremere's tropes as well.

Anti Villain. - One might argue that his intentions aren't all that good, but I say that he's living life the only way he knows how, despite not actually liking it.

Berserker Tears. - It has been witnessed seeing tears stream down his cheeks when launching his initial attack, one might speculate as to why.

Weak but Skilled. - He isn't physically weak as his life-style does require a certain amount of muscle, but in combat he relies more on Skill than strength, to quickly subdue his victims without harming them.

Common Sense. - Has been known to be the one to stop many a scheme, due several flaws and generally low intelligence of the schemer.

Dark and Troubled Past. - Was abandoned by his parents, found by a band of Brigands, has been living as a highwayman ever since.

Sympathetic Criminal. - Won't cause harm to his victims unless they impair his "work".

The Highwayman. - THE Highwayman of the area surrounding Ul'dah.
I know I already posted, but since then I've re-written my character :O
So: TV tropes, take 2:

Chaotic Good - On the whole, a good person. She just has a little bit of trouble with the whole "rules" thing.
Cat Girl - Miqo'te!
Brilliant but Lazy - "Eh~"
Perpetual Poverty - A side effect of being lazy, and spending everything you do earn on fancy clothes and accessories.
Good With Numbers - really good with numbers.
Badass Bookworm - "Never judge a book by its cover."
Lethal Chef - One of the things she's bad at. And she is really bad at it.
Deadpan Snarker - Not always, but if she can get one in...
Cuteness Proximity ~♥
Buxom Is Better

10/10
And these fit her better.
Cat Girl - Copying the OP, Miqo'te.
Big Eater - One of Geala's biggest hobbies is, food.
Red Mage - Her first interest is magic, but she later takes a great interest in and mystifies the "honourable warrior".
The Prankster - She pretty much loved this as a child.
Happily Married - Her parents are this.
Dark and Troubled Past - I actually tried to avoid this trope, for the most part. But some of it snuck in, in the form of her dead childhood friend. Is otherwise happy, though.
Petite Pride - Unfortunately, this may not be workable thanks to customization removal. Scratched. As much as I'd like for it not to be.
Bottle Fairy - Geala started drinking as a teenager.
Action Girl - Keeping in line with being a typical Miqo'te, under being a Conjurer, she is this.
Black Magician Girl - Despite being in love with the Amazonian aspect of this race, and adding it in below anyway, her main class and interest is primarily this.
Staff Chick - I hate this trope, and I've avoided it as best I can when making female Conjurer and Thaumaturge characters.
Christmas Cake - Geala is in her thirties, single, and worries that things are going to continue that way.
Cool Big Sis - She has a bit of this to her younger brother.
Pale Skinned Brunette - Like the Moon!
You Gotta have Blue Hair - And so she does.
Magic Knight - Right under her conjurer, lies a Gladiator and Lancer.
Robe and Wizard Hat - Her clothing of choice.
Pink Boy Blue Girl - I've always interpreted the Mithra this way, and now my Miqo'te family. Matriarchy in Mithra already confirmed, but I like to take it as far as I can.
Creepy Child - Geala is extremely cute, happy, and friendly, but had a slight degree of this in her childhood that I ended up downplaying in order to help me get into a guild.
The Ladette - Geala becomes more of this when she comes a teenagers and hangs out among the more "pirate-y" and treasure hunting types, as well as honourable warriors. Something I aspire character to be.
Tall Dark and Bishoujo - Her occasionally overly serious, intense moments is about the closest she gets to this personality type, I think she's fairly successful at becoming more militant, but I'd just say she's an upbeat character who had matured and has incredibly serious sides as well. However, she is the "Tallest" option available!
Bald Women - Well, not that it's available. But I'm pretty strongly set on the shortest hair option I've seen by now.
Hot Amazon - She's a Miqo'te.
Mysterious Past - I tried to play with this as tactfully as I could, but I think it's still probably been major factor in the discouragement of a recent Guild application. It's frequently done, it's hard to avoid, and it can come off looking horribly special, the balance is a bit nerve wracking.
Dysfunctional Family - Completely averted trope. I wanted to avoid the family as a source of any drama for the character. Giving her a very happy, friendly family. And not simply because people seem to hate all family angst nowadays, I honestly wanted a really warm, friendly family.
Heterosexual Life Partners - Her and Eirol. Whom I will go more into in the future.
An Ice Person - Geala, is naturally, dedicated to Menphina.
The Lost Woods - Geala lives here, and is quite fond of these settings.
The Ophelia - Has a tiny amount of this, but not enough to really be crazy. Very very tiny and I've retconned most of it thanks to it being particularly unimpressive to a roleplay guild.
Real Women Never Wear Dresses - Slightly averted, in that while I have many things to make her as butch as possible, or at least as butch to my comfort and liking, I always wanted to play a female character to feel slightly feminine in some form or aspect. And have given her an interest in magic, magical clothing, cute things, weaving, and cooking.
"Boat Lights" - They've given a new, fantastic option for heterochromia in characters, and I'm going to use it.
I'm Taking Her Home with Me! - Geala likes cute things, a lot.
Cheerful Child - Geala was a very strong version of this as a kid.
Training from Hell - As she becomes a teenager, she becomes more interested in doing Gladiator and Lancer on the side of her main magical hobbies, looking up to becoming strong like her mom and legendary mystical warriors. On the side. So she one time, one time does 50,000 push-ups in one sitting..
Action Mom - Her own mom is certainly one of these.
Hot Blooded - I aspire her to have as much of this as possible when she's serious, and I'd have a hard time having her never having one if I tried. Not a Mary Sue, just might have a large ham moment or two when the situation deems such, Dan Hibiki was by no means a Marty Stu, was he? But was he a hot-blooded Ham? Most certainly. Warmer blooded characters would just be more fun to play than just be the Stoic all the time. If an exciting situation happens, Geala might even be more serious than is called for.
Badass Long Robe - This is the way my character tends to see Magician's gear.
Love Goddess - Geala worships one of these.
BFS - I plan on owning one of these one day.
I think it's time I took a break from this.
