I have seen many people on here asking where is the open RP?

I commend those who are saying where their linkshells meet to try and help foster this, but I think we are not addressing the matter that is being requested.

The comes on the heels of the linkshell I am in, The Seven, having a great time together in our group, but I want to try and address these concerns as they are being requested.  Saying come in, read the links and join a linkshell is good, but many here are asking for open RP.

It has to go beyond every-once-and-awhile events and asking them to walk up and start talking to established groups.  We are not properly quashing the myths that surround legacy players and Balmung with this approach.

The idea here is to have a 'Cheers' sort of place, where everyone can congregate openly to meet and RP without care for established linkshell ties or previous relationships.

The idea would be that a small group of 4-6 people would 'run' the Coffer and the Coffin for a scheduled night each week.  The group that would 'run' it would be sort of pc npcs that anyone who came down during this time could interact with to help those players break the ice a bit.  They would also be permanent fixtures players could count on to be there at the C & C to speak with and grow woth as characters.

I know the idea that there would be a group that 'ran' the C & C outside of Ul'Dah would be dismissed by some as 'not fitting with the established game'.  I understand this, but again, this is about our members, which are crying out for something more.  I am not saying this is the best idea, just an option worth trying.

We would need:

1 - Proprietor - A noble or someone who is wealthy to act as the 'owner'.
1 - Barkeep - Someone who has some culinary skills in game to make it more fun
1 or 2 - Servers - Those who would tend tables and entertain patrons.  Bards would be good for this

I will provide security as a bouncer.

Those wishing to be involved as the main group will need to be prepared to be online once a week at an established date and time, most likely a weekend evening and have a linkshell spot open so we can have communication between each other during the events.

Please reply here, PM me here or in game to me.

The date and times we schedule will be posted here once the positions are filled.

Please note that this is merely an idea to help foster and grow this community.  It is my way to attempt to give back to the community in aid.  I hope others will see it as such and assist willingly.

Thank you!

Player-run taverns are a great idea -- especially when they're publicly advertised and run. Smile I noticed on the other thread a few LSes indicating that they run tavern events, but there's always a "barrier to entry" for others at these if they're not publicly known. Some players, especially newer players, will assume it's a tavern for that group and its friends and avoid the scene.

So, in addition to this idea (which is great, though I'd suggest that the proprietor be renting the tavern as opposed to owning it to avoid the drama of "land claiming"), I'd propose that any LS/FC currently running a regular tavern that's open to the public add it to the events calendar here and make a post in the events section.
I personally do not mind this at all. I am inclined to agree that perhaps starting an RP hub thread will not help everyone, but thus far, we've met a few people through it and I'm certain we will meet more. The Grindstone, however, aims to fill a niche for RPers who enjoy combat and characters seeking to slake their thirst for physical exertion. Not all LSs have such a simple background; many are far more in depth with story-arcs and plots and such.

I advocate a tavern. Is there any way to start an LS of individuals who are willing to take the time to run this or do you intend to run it with volunteers without any group channel?

Back in SWTOR, I was involved with a group that ICly ran 'half' of the Slipper Slopes Cantina. They were given a lot of grief for this by people who have personal vendettas against the proprietor. However, what -we- did was, whenever one of us logged on and had free time, we would act as a single bar tender in the Cantina, offering news that we'd picked up and pointing people in whatever direction they needed. We very much played the NPC role-- Perhaps if you had enough volunteers you could do that -in conjunction with- the one night a week. There will doubtlessly be new people arriving every day or so and I'm certain there are plenty of us with enough spare time to lounge around there -if- there's enough of a response.

Just a suggestion.
I have to pretty much agree with what's said Smile It looks like a wonderful idea! I can't really say that Val'll always be around, but I'd be more than happy to offer his services as a bouncer of some sort when he IS available. I.. don't think he'd do very well as a tender or anything >_>;

That being said, either way, I'd be more than happy to join this little group!
This is actually a great idea. I have entertained the thought of making a waiter/ess character who just hangs around at different bars and serves people. I have no decided if I will do it or not yet though. I already have one alt which I don't really jump on that much because I am mostly on my main, and my main doesn't really have the personality of someone who would work at a legit business place. I do hope we can get some volunteers for this though ^^.
Thank you everyone for your support on this!

I like the suggestion that we are renting out the tavern.  We will go with that.

 Looking for a proprietor now above all else.

We need someone who would have access to a bit of wealth for this to make sense RP wise.

Please reply here if you are that person!

We have a chef/bartender and one waitress.

We are close to making this happen!
That's a nice idea!

However, I'd like to add that the only true answer to "where is the RP" when keeping open RP in mind is "wherever you make it happen". That's the point of it all. There is no set place for it, open RP is something you just start or happen upon.

In this case, making it happen in the C&C is cool.

Also I believe taking consideration of the NPC's established in the area would be better than replacing them outright. The Coffer & Coffin already has a proprietor and barkeep... Instead of claiming to replace him, I suggest enhance his position and recognize the environment by working for him!

There is after all a quest where we're asked to help taking orders. Maybe he hired permanent help (subsequently justified by the RPers who will be swarming there).

@Siobhain
Where you in that guild with all the awesome Star Warsy drinks?
I know those guys got a lot of grief and I never understood why, I thought it was cool and had a lot of thought put into it...
Haters gonna hate.

I was! My name was Vrind Ojaal, I worked with Fynres and his IC wife whose name escapes me for some reason. It was mostly OOC drama stemming from... romantic endeavors, I guess. No need to go into it but I know waaaay more about it than I should.

*sigh* Alpha Company... e.e;
I love this idea. I'm pretty new to roleplay but I'd be willing to work as staff if no one minds my inexperience. I've got an alt I want to use for roleplay, so I could be the second waitress.
Okay! I finally finally, got my copy of the special edition for PS3 and am currently setting it up, soooo always looking for new and interesting open RP since my characters previously haven't joined a group, and have mostly just gone around interacting with random people.  Now, very specially, most of my characters are from Ul'Dah, so I will be sending someone down there if I can make the time for certain, but I would also like to volunteer the twins, yes twins(!), to go down and take part in the actual tavern itself.  I will have them set up for double play, and I already mostly have a system worked out to be able to control them at the same time >,< (crazy I know)...

So there is that, maybe could lend a little different quality to what you're providing if you let the boys entertain a bit?  Okay, hope to see this up and running by the time I get my stuff together in the new few weeks!  PM me for any questions in return.
There is very, very, very, very, very commonly RP happening in Drybone. All the time.
Is the times posted server times or EST?

The above sums up my thoughts rather nicely. Please work with the setting rather than against it. In many cases the overall feel of a prominent location is already established for role-players to work with. The tavern is already tavern and it'll be a lot less awkward and contrived for all involved if the 'workers' being role-played are in employment of the NPC who owns the place instead of expecting everyone to just pretend that someone other than the established owner actually owns the place. It may not be intentional, but it reeks of power grabbing in a similar vein to the role-players who claim to own Costa del Sol.
Looking forward to seeing everyone tomorrow night!

Should be fun.

Anyone wanting to work as a bar tender, we could use the help!

Those who are interested in performing:  We have some things planned, but come down and we will see how things work out.  We may also schedule a performance night to allow everyone their desired time at a later date.

We will wait and see how things go tomorrow.

See you then!
As much as I'd love to be there, unfortunately Saturday is the worst possible time for me to do anything. It's the night I set aside to be with my lady =) Sorry, but I won't be able to make it.
