Okay, gotta ask, if I may.....

No offense to those who do crafting. How is it that there is crafting going, dead center in the middle of Fates, in areas where Fates are likely, and the enemies don't harm the crafters? They should be an easy target.

When I was a below level 10 gladiator, I had to do a quest involving Central Thanalan, to deal with a demoralized gladiator down the hill. That's the one where 2 bad guys come out and beat me up; I finally defeated them, but got killed a lot before I figured out how. Nearby there was a craftsman chiseling at the rock wall; so before I triggered event, I got in front of the craftsman trying to get him to help me beat the bad guys. I tried every Emote, pointing toward the event, and he totally ignored me. He's there all the time. Next I lured the bad guys, and the fight, right next to the craftsman, hoping he would join in and help me. He moved over a few steps and ignored me and the bad guys. The bad guys just ignored him and beat me up.

Again, no offense to crafting; just curious... 2nd query, why is there so much crafting in busy places, like right in front of merchants, etc?
That's gathering that you're talking about.

First, that gatherer couldn't have helped you anyway.  You have absolutely no combat skills while in a Gathering or Crafting class, and if you swap to a Disciple of War or Magic, all of your abilities go on a 20-30 second CD.

Second, Gatherers (of all three varieties) get an ability called Stealth.  This makes them completely invisible to the mobs around them, even if the mobs are standing right on top of them.  I am not sure if you're even able to get hit with AoE while in stealth, but I've never been.

Gatherers gather wherever the nodes are.  You can't see the nodes unless you're in a Gathering class, and you can't see someone else's nodes, so even if there's nothing there for you, that doesn't mean there isn't a node there for the other player.
Crafting near merchants or the markets is simply done because supplies are close at hand should they need more for their recipes. Its completely down to convenience ^^
Firstly, that's that's gathering, not crafting. Secondly, this post could just as well be titled, "I'm mad that I can grief gatherers." They may not even have a combat class leveled. If you really need help, you should consider asking politely. Dragging the enemies onto them is just rude.

Edit: I started typing this when it was only the OP, but Liadan beat me to it. (Only because I'm on a phone, though!Wink)

Be faster.  Slacker!  Cool
Yeah sounds to me like you were trying to grief the gatherer... even though you can technicallyauto attack mobs with pickaxes and hatchets, they do a pitiful amount. Of damage and you might die faster than the mob...

Also the gatheerers are not choosing to mine for ore or chop trees in "combat zones" or during fates.

And finally it possible that the miner you tried to grief was a bot.

Unlikely that it was a bot if it actually reacted.  They normally don't react to -anything-.  But yeah, it might have been.
Hi Rhylund,
Thanks for pointing things out. To clarify, I was not angry or mad at the gatherer or anyone when I tried to defeat the 2 adversaries, and that was when I was at a low level not long after Aug 27, when the game began.

Not knowing the definition of griefing, I went to the Urban Dictionary, and found many interesting definitions for griefing, as they apply to video games. It appears I committed the griefing "violation" during that incident, although the gatherer didn't seem to notice.

At any rate, I didn't intend to cause the gatherer any grief. As a low level novice, I was disappointed that I couldnt get him to assist, but that's it; I had no anger or desire to cause anyone any grief over that one time incident. On many later attempts, over several days, and finally success, he was always there, but I didn't go close to him any more.

Hope this suffices, thanks for better knowledge of those who do things other than fight bad guys. When I get a chance, I'll briefly try one of those skills so I can see what they have to go thru.
You should never, never drag mobs over to gatherers (or anyone else, actually. Sometimes even players in combat classes have to run off to take care of something at awkward times and stand somewhere that's normally safe but where mobs can be dragged to). People have been doing this a lot to me recently as a form of griefing, because even in stealth mode AOE attacks still hit and gatherers have pitifully low HP.

It's a bannable offence (called MPKing, monster-player-killing) and I personally report anyone who does it to me if it's not an accident. Even if you were doing it without malice, if you're deliberately dragging monsters over to them (and it IS obvious when it's deliberate) you'd be indistinguishable from the people who are doing it to deliberately disrupt people.
Are you sure you get hit with AoEs? Cause I was standing in a red ring last night when I was botanying and didnt take any damage and I was stealthed.
Yup. People kept deciding it would be funny to drag stropers over to me while I was mining constantly the other day. I never left stealth but was constantly getting bad breath'd. Status effects all over the place. Unless they've patched that at all in the last few days, aoe's hit you when stealthed and stealth just keeps monsters from attacking you directly.
Pfft, to me they are doing some frigging HARD CORE CRAFTING!!!!  I mean who wouldn't with that FATE music!!

But yes, alot of time we kinda get stuck as a FATE  just -PLOPS- on our head.  I don't have all the places memorized or anything, so I usually get caught up in them.

And that's why I think gatherers don't get attacked.  Well .. actually one can.  As I was gathering and an aggro mob killed me.  /shrugs

And I have crafted out int he wild when my bags were getting full.  It is easier to craft by the bell and the like, as things and material are just another click away *misses her crafting hall from EQ2 .... /sighs*
No. Hardcore is doing Botany while prancing around Odin. The bodies upon bodies piling up, the massive AoE storms for fire and frost, as you skip around picking flowers in your sun hat.

It's pretty intense.

Sounds fun, might need to try that myself.
