Since I've had to pull a few things over the last few days for rule violations, and I've been having to restrict registrations to admin activation for similar reasons, I thought I'd take a moment to remind people of RPC Rule #1:

Respect: "Be Excellent to Each Other."

This means don't be a jerk, don't call people or groups out, don't metagame, don't powerpose, don't godmode, don't harass people, and don't fan flame wars. Assume Good Faith and treat people like you'd like to be treated in real life. We may all be ghosts in the machine here, so to speak, but behind every pseudonym is a real person with real feelings.

I know the holiday season can be stressful, but let's try not to take out frustrations on our fellow RPers, okay? I think everyone wants more of a "corner coffee shop" atmosphere and less of a "Crossfire with angry pundits" atmosphere.

Thank you thank you thank you
If you ban it here, it'll just go somewhere else.

This may be true -- but then it's not here.

There's lots of communities around that are unmoderated, that have less or different moderation, and that have different rules and atmospheres. Even if something is banned everywhere, this is the Internet; a person who wants to say something can easily get a soapbox on which to say it ($8 a month on HostGator, free for a year on AWS, onion service on Tor, FaceTumbWitterChanRedSpace, etc.). One great thing about the Internet is that we can all have a place to play with our own rules (if any).

In this particular place, though, one of the rules is to be nice.

And, when it goes to another place, it will be ten times worse because it will unmoderated and very biased. There will no mediation.

I think ignoring it is haphazard.

If it goes to another place, it becomes the problem of the place they go too. Ultimately, people will do what they want. If they want to continue flaming, they'll flame. They want to argue and nitpick, they'll argue and nitpick. Whether it's here or some where else or to someone else it doesn't matter. But it's not like one can follow these people around and quell every fire they may start in their wake.

And to the mod, totes yes to all the things Smile

It's not so much ignored here as sometimes given life support when it shouldn't.

Freelance doesn't want a lack of discussion on serious topics, but it if becomes obvious it's going nowhere or is getting downright bad, locking the topic is the smarter thing to do. Some of the crazier thread will get really really heated and after a day, ice cold.

But dear God i hope we never have another thing like the housing issue.

It's not Freelance's/the RPC's job to run around policing the internet, nor is it something they have the time or power to do. If it's not here and it doesn't get linked/brought up here, then it doesn't matter here.
Right! Thanks for your input. I don't want to imply I know how to run this place. I just was giving my opinion.
You're welcome to have and share your opinion, even on the moderation/rules of the site. I value discussion and transparency, which is why I try to explain big changes I make or moderation I do. I've never once booted a person from the site for disagreeing with me, much less warned them; if a person leaves because they disagree with a decision, the door is always open if they'd like to come back.

I know not everyone will agree with everything I and the mods do, and sometimes bad decisions are made. I'm not infallible, and just off the top of my head I can think of two decisions I've made that were either downright stupid or that I could've handled a lot better.

So, with that in mind, my major goal for this thread was just to remind everyone, in a time that can be pretty stressful (gifts! bills! relatives! travel! those STUPID LIGHTS GETTING TANGLED UP AND YOU CAN NEVER FIND THE ONE THAT'S BLOWN WHY!?!?), that even if we disagree, we can all try to be nice. Smile "Assume Good Faith" is a mantra to live by, IMO.
Flame threads? Silly flamers, that's what the official forums are for lol.
