RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Eses Fafa - 05-23-2017 I've seen worse sins out there with this game, that being PAYING FOR RETAINERS. As it stands, I feel like the Jump Potion should only be made available to a player who's already completed the content to be finished within the jump potion, since making alts is one of the most tedious and soul-draining experiences within this game. The developers got it in their heads that only one character was important and name change + Fantasia was the solution, so when they finally did this, I was quite relieved. Some people lack the mental capacity (myself included) to be able to rerun content they've already done several times over without becoming stressed out, and there's no point to a game if it's going to ruin the player's experience. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Sylentmana - 05-23-2017 For alts, I'm cool with it so long as the player has at least one toon that has completed the scenario and knows the game. For new players, no way. There is enough bad players running roughshod all over the game as it is. We don't need more. Besides, I feel like it kind of pisses on the players who went through everything the traditional way, learned their jobs, and worked for their gear. You want nice things? You gotta earn that shit! RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Berrod Armstrong - 05-23-2017 I kind of laugh at this. People are so vocal about how much the MSQ sucks, how much they hate it, how much torture it was -- then want to spin and say that new people SHOULD DO IT AT LEAST ONCE before applying jump books. I've done ARR+Heavensward eight times. I think that people should mind their business and let folks decide for themselves what the hell they wanna do lol. IDK, I kinda think paying fifty dollars is "earning it", where "it" is the ability to play the game with friends. Before deciding whether to introduce them, they researched the demographics of people who tend to purchase these items, and went over that in the live letter. They said people who buy them tend to already be gamers. It's not like they're people who've never played an MMO before. There's also not really a reason to spend fifty extra dollars, outright, on a game that already costs about the same unless there's friends waiting for you - friends who will teach you how to play your class. I was kind of hoping they'd announce an expansion/extension to the Hall of the Novice when they started mentioning it, but I guess we'll see. The only "harsh" bit, to me, is the sudden pause to do required Guildhests during ARR... and perhaps a couple of the required dungeons. Everything else - the running around and fetch quests and whatnot - can be done pretty mindlessly while you watch something else or chat with friends. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Virella - 05-23-2017 I'm still of the opinion they should actually give new players one of these level and MSQ skip potions by default. Leave the choice to them whether they want to use it or not. Would make for an added bullet point to get folks to buy the pricier version, too, so I could actually see SE doing it. Forking over cash isn't earning anything, its buying it. You didn't work in-game for any of that, you just gave them the green. Maybe you earned that IRL, but many probably just annoyed the shit out of their parents until they forked over dough. You want to look cool and play with the big boys/girls, you gotta bleed, sweat, and cry for it! *beats chest like angry gorilla while foaming at the mouth* Don't mind me. I'm just super hyped after seeing the summoner part of the job abilities video where I can haz Bahamut! I honestly doubt these potions will effect me all that much besides a rise in tanks wearing mage gear. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Kilieit - 05-23-2017 I think any notion of "earning it", where "it" isn't even anything significant achievement- or gear-wise and is literally just reaching the end of the game, in a video game that we play for fun is kind of... lame. Honestly. Like, do you really value so highly your time spent performing easy yet tedious quests and learning something you can already quickly pick up in the higher floors of PotD, that you'd gate off completion of it from people who have more money than time to spend on a video game? I just think it's kind of a boring, low-investment hill to die on. $50 is way more than I'd ever expect to be paid for completing that content myself - IMO if anything the Tales are overpriced, although I think that's a good decision (keep the financial bar high so new players who would otherwise want to complete the content themselves don't feel like they "have to" buy the Tales in order to keep up). BTW, the level 60 gear they're talking about is almost certainly the Primal-inspired 230 gear, the weapons and chest/legs of which are already available for purchase from the Calamity Salvager with silver chocobo feathers. You mean gear like this? Because that coat is totally what I was planning to use for my glamour. You mean gear like this? Yeah! This stuff, under Chocobo Feather Exchange II: The fact it's already available from the Salvager, plus the fact it's the exact item level required to pass the Heavensward MSQ (230), is what makes me think it'll be the gear included in the Tales of Adventure: [Job]. It could end up being the AF2, but we'll see. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Sylentmana - 05-23-2017 I was being facetious with my posts. I don't actually care about jump potions. Thought I made it obvious, but I guess not. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - IvikBlack - 05-23-2017 I'm not a fan of jump potions, but I am a fan of the game remaining accessible and active. It's a trade off that I can't judge ultimately because I don't know how it'll turn out in the end. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - Kismet - 05-23-2017 I'm personally very happy we're getting them. (The job potions in particular, I don't care about the quest skipping stuff.) I don't wanna have to bust my ass boring myself to death every single time I decide I want a particular job's glamour. RE: Your thoughts on jump potions? - LetsGoKaito - 05-24-2017 I think that for an alt, it's nothing I have an issue with. My issue comes from any new player that jumps to 60 on a job they have no clue how to use. That's already enough of an issue with FATE or PotD, but for somebody to just pay their way to 60 on their first job ever....its terrifying ^^" |
