So they could be wearing AF2 because that's what it was intended to look like. Actually, the SMN AF is excavated from Saint Conach's Find. So, really bloody old hand-me-downs. RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Kage - 03-04-2015 I would just say they've seen some times. I mean really, we're all wearing some hand me down or old shit unless we crafted it ourselves or it's Rowena stuff. Allagan stuff? Old as shit. WoD? ... Possible it's not old. LotA? OLD ST? OLD Antique gear? A bad choice of words because the "unofficial" designation is more common than the "official" designation. In my own headcanon, all the drops we get are re-tailored, but modern versions inspired by whatever instance we return from. Like Coil, enough adventurers brought tattered remains of old Allagan clothing so that tailors got an idea of what it might have looked like and made it. And now because everyone is obsessed with everything Allagan, it's highly fashionable. And like WoD? I mean... it's not like demons and voidsent wear clothes. So just inspired pieces. Cuz... a silk robe isn't gonna survive 5,000 years through earthquakes, great floods, freezes, and what all and still be wearable. The damn thing would just disintegrate in your hands if you picked it up. Also that said, WTF Eorzeans have no sense of history. No wonder the Sharlayans left in a huff. I mean, we dig up some 5,000 year old piece of history and wear it to battle or we destroy it (thank you desynth). Sharlayans are all probably screaming:
RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Kage - 03-04-2015 Allagan technology yo. That's been my (5 minute) headcanon. RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Caspar - 03-04-2015 The monk clothes being literal hand-me-downs was hilarious. I wanted to see my Lala try to run in a huge Highlander-sized cyclas and trip over the hem. That's myth gear.I was thinking it this whole time, but figured it'd come off as pedantic and snippy if I said anything. RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Zelmanov - 03-04-2015 Given the remark about Sharlayans......is anyone RP'ing an Indiana Jones-esque archaeologist that gets in a tizzy about ancient looted gear? no? Someone should >_> RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Warren Castille - 03-04-2015 (03-04-2015, 01:35 PM)Melkire Wrote:(03-04-2015, 01:00 PM)Warren Castille Wrote: FFXI babies. That's where it comes from, though, and I'm not even just poking fun. Artifact armor in FFXI became shorthand as AF, and when Dynamis came out and dropped "upgraded" recolored versions they became known as AF2. It was all job-specific armor that was highly sought after, and in some cases so exceedingly rare that if you saw someone wearing something specific (RDM/BLM hat, THF hands, PLD body) you knew you were looking at someone who was in a good group. So yeah. AF2 because "Dynamis relic gear" doesn't abbreviate as well. Actually... it abbreviates to "DRG" but we can't have anything decent get confused with LOLDRGs, no thank you. RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - K'nahli - 03-04-2015 Even were I to RP dungeons, I'd never actually imagine acting as though clothing just happens to drop there *laughs* RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Warren Castille - 03-04-2015 (03-04-2015, 03:21 PM)Sounsyy Wrote: Actually... it abbreviates to "DRG" but we can't have that. Ah, but Allagan attire is not made from traditional materials. The descriptions for materials specified as "Allagan" all seem to suggest that they've been treated with special materials. Then we get to ingredients such as Allagan Catalyst, Carboncoat, and Carbontwine, all Allagan, and all explicitly stated to increase the properties of materials. With these in mind, I find it much more believable that, yes, that full set of Allagan armor survived several eras in the dirt. Allagan. RE: Square Enix's attention to detail and proof to their precision - Aduu Avagnar - 03-06-2015 The reason its being called AF2 is simply common usage. Before we even had those pictures, the i90 set was being called AF2. It sort of stuck about. |
