NPCs will call you either. I did a generator-named Roegadyn in one of the betas called Crazy Bee, and whether it was "Greetings, Lady Bee" or "How's it going, Crazy?" I did a lot of laughing, and I didn't get far out of the Gridania starter MSQ, because that's all there was available at the time. I didn't notice it at all with my Hyur or my Keeper because of how conventional their names are, but with the Hellsguard, hilarity consistently ensued.

For Hellsguard, I think it is more polite to use the full name, just like Plainsfolk. The two words in the Hellsguard name make up one name. There is no surname. So, 'Ember' is just a nickname whereas her full name is 'Flickering Ember'.Â
I haven't done HW content yet but so far I think only one NPC has ever referred to my character as 'Ember.' 99.9% of the time it's been 'Flickering.'
(She goes almost exclusively by 'Ember' in RP though so it's a bit jarring for NPCs to call her 'Flickering.')

I usually find myself reverting to the noun portion of a hellsgaurd name for familiar conversation and using the full name for a more polite tone. If I wanted to convey respect ect. I would probably tack "Ser" in front of the entire name.
As for Klyn, she views Iyrnahctwyn very much like any surname. Even though it differs from her brothers' surname by a letter, it still shows the family tie and honors her father. I think she would prefer to be addressed as Miss Iyrnahctwyn in a formal situation. However she isn't going to object much.
Generally she's just happy that people are not calling her Klinzome-thing-or-another.

Glioca usually gets 'Lady' tacked on in front of her name by people in RP. Â It's almost always Lady Sargonnai for the first few meetings. Â 3.0 is fun because it's Mistress Sargonnai, and it sounds so formal and posh. Â It's going to be hilarious when I finally go through on my Roe lady, and she's Mistress Moonlight. Â
Makes it sound like she's a lounge singer, or something.
I do agree with the bit about Ishgardians not knowing about how to deal with Miqo names, and defaulting to Master Tia is kind of hilarious.
That said, I like Klinzahr's use of Ser. Â Works for most characters, I think, if you're being respectful.

C'sien gets upset when people call her Miss Zoth, and politely corrects them to call her C'sien. When talking with others she usually calls them "Ser/Sir Firstname" or "Miss Firstname" as she's not familiar with most naming conventions, icly, other than her own peoples'. So she tries to make sure that she's not trampling on some unknown name convention.

In-game it took me (and presumably my character) by surprise when she was referred to as Sargeant Kuji. Â Others, Minfilia for example, calls her simply "D'aito" - which seems a bit informal to me.
