(09-21-2015, 11:57 PM)Faye Wrote: Hi there! First off, I want to say I like vampires. I really like vampires. I usually RP one if there's any plausibility. I have no shame in admitting this. That being said, I'm not RPing one in XIV, and the reason is that it's really not plausible. So far, we've seen no vampires in game nor even any reference to them afaik. The closest you might be able to role-play is a being from/tainted by the Void that must feed on aether (not blood), though sunlight doesn't seem to bother creatures from the Void.

Though you haven't mentioned anything about drinking blood and specified that the sunlight weakness would be a myth for your "vampires," so I have to ask, why exactly call them vampires at all? What are the downsides to all the benefits this template will give them? This isn't a canon thing, it's a thing you're making up and likely no one else will play one of these "vampires," so saying they're perpetuating rumors about their "weaknesses" seems silly. Why would they not just hide their existence altogether? Vampires aren't a thing in XIV, so as long as people are abiding by the lore, you're not going to run into characters who know what your character is and what the real world mythology for vampires is.

I also want to mention: Conjurers don't take from environment, they borrow the powers of the elementals.

I'm afraid I'd have to caution against trying to role-play a conventional, blood-sucking vampire,
and the alternative you've laid out also seems best left alone unless you just want to take the route of playing a standard Void creature. But that's my two cents; you do you!
i thought they did take from the environment no? or at least borrow aether which is how it can b abused harmfully

This thread is going places.

RE: Plausibility of Vampire RP - Aaron - 09-22-2015

I dont think Vampires were ever in any FF title tbh.

Closest thing we got was Vincent sleeping in a coffin.... And hes not even a Vampire.

Regardless ftr id like to say Werewolves are better.

There are a couple of vampire-like classes in some FF games. A few even call them "vampires," but that's about it.

there was a vampire lord in the original final fantasy as well as the job in bravely default which acts like blue mage

It is a truth universally acknowledged that any roleplay community will resist, to the best of its ability, the inclusion of vampires if they are not explicitly and unambiguously described as existing in the setting.

I wish you luck, OP.

THM takes from the environment, WHM borrows from the elementals. If a WHM does not pay proper respects to the elements and get their permission, the WHM will end up using their own life aether and, eventually, kill themselves.

i hope in November the Void Ark opens and the mages inside try to drain us and we need culinarians to make dishes with garlic lol

RE: Plausibility of Vampire RP - Aaron - 09-22-2015

I stand corrected then!

In any case when you think about it, theres really no place for vampires in XIV. You see how Ishguard treated Au Ra the second they stepped in the city?

Vampires if they even did exist would probably be handled akin to Salem Witch Trials. Everyone dies until theres nothing left.

Vampires show up as undead monsters in several FF titles, but... yeah. I wouldn't really use that as a justification here, since it's not like FF4, for instance, had super-detailed lore justifying their existence. They wanted an undead monster with Bleed and Drain, so they made it a vampire. Smile

No.

THM takes from the caster's aether reserves. It's literally the entire plot of the THM questline.

CNJ borrows from the land.

BLM steals from the land.

WHM takes from the land, under permission of the Elementals (or at least the knowledge of how to be a WHM is guarded by the Elementals).

This will be insufficient, you see, because those vampires are rare and unique and could never possibly be replicated by a player character, in spite of all the rare and unique things replicated by the average roleplay character. See the roleplayer response to San'layn in World of Warcraft for precedent.

FF and Bravely Default are not FFXIV.

RE: Plausibility of Vampire RP - Caspar - 09-22-2015

I don't think there's anything wrong with it so to speak, it's just you don't have much to work with so you'd have to do things from the ground up.

Just don't go trying to bite my lil' dumpling. The world isn't ready for a vampire popoto.

What if the players believed in the multiverse setting theory that came about as a result of the seasonals? Would that perhaps allow for vampires from another FF setting?

RE: Plausibility of Vampire RP - ProvaDiServo - 09-22-2015

Maybe instead of a direct weakness you could consider yourself nocturnal in nature? A voidsent in possession of A keeper? One who considers the draining of aether to be more intimate through blood?
