I am so glad they're not just making the same game from 1997 with a shiny coat of paint. I promise the original FF7 isn't going anywhere, you guys who want turn-based combat! Can verify, as I'm playing it right now. ![]() Can't wait to see how Vincent plays. Also, no crappy Genesis stuff shown yet, which is a huge plus! RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - Aaron - 12-05-2015 I'm gonna be the one to say it and will probably get chewed out for it but fuck it. In my opinion, turn based combat is dead these days, people should get over it. RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - Steel Wolf - 12-05-2015 Looks damn solid. Assuming the "fluff" quests and minigames are heavily toned down, this could end up becoming the "definitive edition" of the game. :D RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - TheLastCandle - 12-05-2015 (12-05-2015, 07:29 PM)Aaron Wrote: I'm gonna be the one to say it and will probably get chewed out for it but fuck it. I somewhat agree, but it works well for some games. Bravely Default/Second and Dragon Quest are still carrying that torch. But you're absolutely right that most are moving towards outright action or some kind of hybrid system a la Tales and Star Ocean. RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - Teadrinker - 12-05-2015 Echoing the same grumbles about the combat. *waves cane* Gimmie my turn based combat/atb or get off my lawn. I understand that there's still a good amount of people that prefer straight up turn based. Yeah, I'll agree that it's refreshing sometimes to see turn-based combat make a comeback. But don't rule what they have right now out just yet, it might just be better. People are getting what their inner childhood have wanted for years and years. They're getting Final Fantasy VII updated to the 21st century. This includes graphics that can finally be the splitting image of our imaginations about the world the game took place in and its characters. This 21st century update also includes the gameplay. No, it won't be a carbon copy of the Playstation classic, but at the end of the day I don't think the audience truly desires the same exact game. From what I see from the trailer it's the game we remember from our childhood all grown up. People change when they become adults, but not always for the worse. That's how I see it, and I think that's exactly what the majority of people wanted out of this remake. I didn't think it would look this good, personally. I'm stoked. RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - Oli! - 12-05-2015 Turn based is boring. Gimme that button mashing goodness. RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - Teadrinker - 12-05-2015 You know, after looking at the interface you'll notice there is a "Defend" option. Given how reminiscent this is of Kingdom Hearts and how much this looks like a RTB Hack and Slash I kneejerked into assuming that as well....until I noticed that. Why would you have a selectable "Defend" option with a RTB system? You wouldn't. Perhaps it's just a updated and very pretty turn based system? ...... *crosses fingers?* RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - TheLastCandle - 12-05-2015 I saw that as well. Could just be a placeholder UI, like we saw in early Versus/XV trailers, too. Nothing about the combat looked turn-based to me. If they can find a way to make ATB work in a game like this, though, then more power to 'em. But FFVII meets Kingdom Hearts sounds pretty amazing to me, more so than any turn-based system. And I say that as a person whose all time favorite FF is FF6. Like in those RTB games where you block, roll, counter etc Actually, XIII was real time (ish) and had a defend button iirc RE: Final Fantasy VII Remake Gameplay - Cassandra - 12-05-2015 (12-05-2015, 03:10 PM)ProvaDiServo Wrote: best decision they made, nobody wants to sit through that atb bullshit. You should visit some of the FFVII dedicated boards. GameFAQs has a lot of people livid at the idea this won't be turn based anymore, xD From the looks of it, I'm getting a FFXIII vibe since they do show explicit Attack and Defend options in lieu of just pressing buttons to do those actions. Thankfully this seems to be a reworking of VX's engine, which is exactly what I was hoping for. That part where Cloud turns sideways to squeeze through a gap is flat out re-skinned assets from VX. I love me my turn based games (looking at you Dragon Quest) but I don't need to play the exact same game with better graphics. I want it to be different. That scene immediately made me think of that cave in Episode Duscae.
