I overcame this by translating the sea wolf name into common language with a funny background story. http://ffxiv-roleplayers.com/showthread.php?tid=2830&pid=35124#pid35124

Lol. I think your name is unique enough to be safe ^^

Oh!!  If it makes you feel better I decided to go with the old roegadyn naming methods.  I understand Hellsguard do not normally adhere to this though we have a good reason for it (which I am keeping secret!!)

But my character's name will be Blynbhar Toeghwyza.  (yeah I know, "Gesundheit")

He's probably not going to be the most friendly sort, but he's still going to go by 'Ben' as a nickname I think!  Cool

Would you consider "Blimp" as his secondary nick? Mr. Blimp? Bouncy
Or is it a nick that's gonna induce some "You got something stuck between your teeth, man," sessions from him? Big Grin

What do you folks think? Im still thinking of going as my Sea Wolf, But theres a niggle in the back of my head making me want to go Hellsguard instead Huh

I'm playing a sea wolf, and using the Hellsguard-style "English" translation so folks can send me /tells.  My character is more assimilated I guess!

So wait, tried the name generator and got this:

Eyribaena Swyrwyrstsyn

Surprise Am I translating this right?

Kinda makes me want to create and RP a butcher shop owner inspired by Sig Curtis from FMA.

We can click on names and on people in ARR to send tells easier anyway. ^^

LONG LIVE THE NAME GENERATOR!

That Roe must be conceived by the Flying Spaghetti Monster and flung onto the world covered in carbonara sauce!
This is a divine will! Please DO make that character!

Hah!  I could never figure out how to do that in beta3.  I always typed /tell [name] because I couldn't figure out how to reply.

Alt+R or Ctrl+R (I can't remember which now, you can change it in the keybindings though) is reply Smile!

I could see this as being even better than 'Ben'!  Though we've been referring to him as Ben for all this time and it's going to be a little awkward at first now I think.  But he is rather large and light on his feet, and I'm sure there are those who will remark that he's full of hot air.  Laugh

Or if he was to take on the more conventional Hellsguard type names.  Maybe "Hovering Blimp".

Also the default to reply to a /tell (unless you changed it in key-bindings) was Alt+R.

Yay! Fun! Big Grin
He might as well starts a new rumor mill around the bar or something...
Yeah, something along the lines of, "See that Roe' over there? They call him Blimp for he's big and ignites easily. My advice? Don't mess with him, sonny 'cause he'll take you for a sky tour... with his uppercut."

RE: Will my Roe name (Or Sea wolf in general) get too confusing for normal play? - Ender - 08-14-2013

I'll definitely be going for a "traditional" Roegadyn/Seawolf name for my Seawolf!
She's called Swygrael Driseidinwyn, which I expect might be on the heavier side for some people Big Grin (It's definitely taking a bit of practice for me)
