Re: TCGs - Tadir - 08-09-2010

That's dumb. I mean...really.

My Tonberry wasn't that powerful.

I had this card which I thought was stupidly overpowered as it was.

Legends was the last expansion to the game released while I was still playing. Ice Age (I think that's what it was called) came out about a year after I quit playing.

Re: TCGs - Nikolai - 08-09-2010

Magic's gone to many exciting new places since then, but yeah, I don't really care much for the Zendikar expansion... The "living world" aspect was pretty well portrayed by the cards, but the ally effects not only seemed arbitrary, but they weren't the sort of thing you could just fit into an existing deck like other expansions; just from the way it worked, if you wanted to use it in a deck, you were pretty much forced to center that deck around the ally mechanic. Finally, the eldrazi... As big a fan as I am of the whole "cthulhian horrors from beyond reality" deal... I dunno, I feel they turned out just being annoying. Though, my best friend uses Eldrazi Monument in his Goblin deck which works pretty well, so I suppose some good has come of it? Haha...

Man, I'm wrapping my mind around a FF-themed Magic homebrew now... I already have so many ideas x_x

Those superhero cards are really well done, too! Kudos, Renaise Big Grin

Re: TCGs - Renaise - 08-09-2010

lol cheers

I was thinking of doing a Final Fantasy Set (as well as a set for the spectral wardens)

so could be an idea to submit them here... or in their own thread... maybe a few of us could get a set done together?

Re: TCGs - Zane - 08-09-2010

In my opinion, Magic the Gathering is probably the best TCG you can get into. It's very flexible, has a HUGE library, and it has staying power at nearly 20 years and going. I play Magic every week, and would probably compete in the pro tour qualifiers and national qualifiers if I had a decent amount of standard cards. Unfortunately, I have mostly older cards so... I just stick to the kitchen table, and FNM drafting.

For the record, my favorite sets are Odyssey and Tempest. None of the new stuff could even come close to how awesome they were. If any of you that play Magic are in the Central Jersey area and are looking for a group, let me know. I try to hold tournaments with different themes and I give away cards as prizes to people that win.

I put together a set of cards based on the characters in my D&D campaign once, but I wasn't satisfied with the balance issues, so I never revisited it or tried to improve it.

Re: TCGs - Hiname - 08-09-2010

As a matter of fact, I made a rather big deal of
cards.
A dualist pack, to be precice, a pack of cards ready to play for two players, featuring things and characters of the game series Project Zero (or Fatal Frame to the US).. someone ever played that? Then I would upload the cards for you to check out and rate. (Im a sucker for feedback, ya' know..)

Re: TCGs - Kylin - 08-09-2010

MTG for the win. My cards are collecting dust right now. Only ever knew two people who played it so I didn't get to have as much fun with it as I would have liked.

My secret fantasy is a MTG MMORPG. And by that, I mean an actual world based on the actual lore of the Magic universe. I've read most of the books and love the story to death.

Re: TCGs - Hiname - 08-09-2010

You mean a world where the epic of all epics Akroma VS Phage does not end at the fact that Akroma laughs at Phage due her "Protection against Black"?

That be totally awsome.

I really enjoyed the Project Zero games Big Grin

I'm probably going to get murdered for this, but I hate older cards. I actually loved Zendikar and I have a red and green allies deck Laugh It was my very first deck so I didn't have any other cards to worry about try to fit into the deck though. Of course, all my decks are standard legal except my block specific decks I use for tournaments with my friends. I could see that being a bit of a pain for people who have been collecting a while but to me there is nothing like laying a bunch of 1/1's in a multi-player game, getting ignored by everyone, then putting something in that buffs all those 1/1's to 16/16's and using overrun. They never see it coming Smile

I only think it's fair to warn anyone and everyone against Odyssey by Vance Moore http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-Cycle-Book-I/dp/0786919000. This was a horrible, horrible book and it makes me want to cry every time I think of it. It's battle after endless battle and it takes these wonderful characters and ruins them. If you ever want to lose the will to live and die horribly then go ahead and pick it up. However, the other ones look awesome! I haven't read Wrath and Storm yet but it looks so good!

You've only read up to chapter 8, and you haven't even read it. I had to read it to you as a bed time story, and you pretended I didn't exist, or cursed at me the entire time. -_-

EDIT: AND THEN YOU HID MY BOOK IN ONE OF THE BOXES AT THE BOTTOM OF THE CLOSET AND I CAN'T READ IT TO YOU ANY MORE!

Re: TCGs - Faust - 08-10-2010

I used to be serious business into Pokemon cards. At one point, was probably one of the best players in the game.

I'm begging and scraping for a FF TCG in FFXIV. At one point several years ago I was actually developing a FF TCG just for fun, but if one came out I would definitely get into it. I love the depth of TCGs, but brought into an online format, they would rule, mainly because they have three distinct advantages over print TCGs:

1) Easy to update, and therefor to balance. Don't have to ban certain cards, make cards obsolete with expansions, etc. If you release a broken card in print, trying to balance for it can break the game even further. You can also design new archtypes more easily. All because games are easy to patch.

2) Cost. Print cards are pretty expensive as far as cardboard goes, and as any hardcore TCG player knows, highly desired cards can be expensive to obtain purely as a matter of the business model. The financial barrier for entry is not only an inconvenience to the player, but also reduces the access that potential opponents have to the game.

3) Player access. With a print game, you can only easily play against local opponents and have to arrange meetings-- you can't easily play when you want to. With the online format, you can play against players from all over the world, and much more easily find someone to play with.

So I not only think that an in-game TCG would be incredibly fun, I think online TCGs are the future of the genre.

Annihilator 6 means when this creature attacks, defending player sacrifices 6 permanents Tongue

I own that card Tongue Me and about 4 friends play magic the gathering, and we go to play every weekend. I have several decks as ive been playing since the days of Portal, but the more recent decks i own (Worldwake, Rise of eldrazi etc..) are a

Mono White, Pure Soldier Deck

Mono White, Healing Deck

Green and Red Eldrazi deck, Mainly focused on getting big guys like this <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://magiccards.info/scans/en/roe/12.jpg">http://magiccards.info/scans/en/roe/12.jpg</a><!-- m --> and this <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://pzportal.net/main/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Emrakul-the-Aeons-Torn.jpg">http://pzportal.net/main/wp-content/upl ... s-Torn.jpg</a><!-- m --> . ITs a great deck if you get them out.

The Pure sliver all foil deck, all colors.

Archenemy Assemble the doomsday machine deck

So yeah i have a bunch of them. One of my friends has a Mono Black Vampire deck(before you ask no nothing like twilight) and another has a mono blue decking out deck, he just bought 4 of these combined with these. ( <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://sales.starcitygames.com/cardscans/MAGTEM/grindstone.jpg">http://sales.starcitygames.com/cardscan ... dstone.jpg</a><!-- m --> and <!-- m --><a class="postlink" href="http://www.tappedout.net/media/mtg-cards/shadowmoor/painters-servant.jpg">http://www.tappedout.net/media/mtg-card ... ervant.jpg</a><!-- m --> )
